Charity events.

As you know - each year we try to support local charities with rides etc. These events are put forward

at the AGM in January. If you think you would like to suggest a charity to support - you may like to

start thinking about it now. You will need to have been a member for at least a year and be fully active

in the arranging of dates, how it will be run, where it will go etc. And present a prepared outline to the

club members at AGM. You can get a copy of the Charity Support guidelines from me - by email or

post.

Ritchie

I know some of you have been gallivanting on the Continent lately, and to rallies, - so why not let the other members

share your experiences? A few words about what you did and perhaps a couple of pictures - send them to me or

Ritchie or Steve and we’ll add them to the newsletter.

Jeremiahs Journey Charity Run.

The weather played a part in this year’s Jeremiahs Journey Charity rideout / campover.

This event is normally well supported, but with the weather forecasters giving rain and

the day starting with heavy showers , it was probably a case for many of looking out-

doors and making the decision not to attend .So numbers were down on previous years.

Those that did turn up were rewarded with sunshine to accompany them on their journey

across the moors to end up at the Plymouth Argaum Rugby Club for a barbecue and then

evening party.

Some hardy campers , (probably seasoned rallyers) brought tents which were pitched on

the camping field next to the clubhouse. Others opted for the softer approach - the

camper van. Whichever method they chose - it was probably a wise move, taking into

consideration the amount of alcohol that was consumed during the evening , and the

‘Lord of the Dance’ type jigging going on during the Irish band’s playing, meant that they

would have had difficulty walking - never mind riding.

I think it fair to say that all that attended thoroughly enjoyed the event, if not - I haven’t

heard any adverse comments. Remnants of the barbecue were polished off for breakfast

the next morning along with copious amounts of tea to wake up those who needed to get

back on the road for home.

Proceeds of the event are scheduled to be presented at the final rideout evening on

Monday October 24th

PAUL JOCE - Norton owner.

On the 7th September, our club president, Paul Joce

met with other Norton owners (the Norton Owners

Club,) at the Romany Jones Cafe on the A380 near

Newton Abbot to ride en masse to the Paignton

Bike Night.

There were 5 new Norton 961 Commandos and 4

elderly Nortons in the group.

CONGRATULATIONS JULIA!

Those of you who ride with us on Mondays will probably know Club member Julia Chandler. She

normally rides pillion on the Triumph with husband Derek.

Julia has joined the ranks as a rider rather than pillion now, after passing her test recently..

When asked to comment she said “ I 'm as chuffed as a pig in **** - I did mod 1 in the morning and

got a last minute mod 2 the same afternoon - and it was on the day I hit 50 years and 7 months. I

know I'm rambling but I don't think I'd be happier if I won the lottery right now xx!

Julia - Congratulations - it’s nice to see some more lady riders in the club - hope to see you at rides in

the future when you sort out what you will be riding....

Last of the Summer Wine Tour 201

Tony Lacrouts, , John Shepherd & Dave Lancaster caught the 11.00pm ferry from Plymouth to Roscoff on Thursday 16/06/11 - here is

his report.......

After a very rough crossing we arrived at Roscoff 8.00am local time, setting off to St Nazaire in the pouring rain to the first stop over.

210 miles later we arrived at the campsite at lunch time and had to wait for the camp site office staff to return from lunch.

All 3 tents were erected in record time (2.5 hours) a friendly Brit came over with tea and biscuits , by this time the rain had stopped

and we sat around the camp fire(calour gas stove) planning the next days ride.

Day 2, up at the crack of dawn (9.30am) sunny, tents down and bikes packed and off to the next destination La Rochelle 150miles. Sat

Nav set for D roads we had a great ride on the west coast of France. On route we had a pit stop, slight oil problem with the big Suzuki

all sorted and back on the road. Arriving at La Rochelle town centre at 5.00pm only to find the roads blocked off due to a carnival.

After several detours down very narrow street in the town centre, Dave entertaining the locals with the noise from his Rocket 3 - car

alarms going off and children screaming, we eventually found the camp site at 6.30pm. 2 night stop over.

La Rochelle --well worth visiting and municipal camp site very clean 4.5 euros each per night great value.

Day 4, Set off for Biarritz 310 miles in lovely sunshine - 30 degrees, skirting round Bordeaux never getting lost once or losing anyone

(honest). We arrived at Biarritz camp site 4.00pm.

The campsite had its own private beach, swimming pool , shop & restaurant, - 11 euros each per night very clean camp site great value.

We stayed 5 nights at this camp site, 4 days temperature well into the 30s we had 1 day of drizzle in the morning. During this time we

visited Biarritz town centre very nice & clean with plenty going on. All three of us ventured into the Atlantic sea on several occasions

(photos to prove)

We had a days ride to Pau, and then across part of the Pyrenees into Spain - GREAT ROADS!.

The Rocket 3 had to visit the Triumph dealership at Biarritz, for a bit of a tweak, very helpful staff.

Well after 5 days of lazing around we watched the final sunset.

Day 9, Left Biarritz heading back to La Rochelle, back to the same friendly camp site, arriving at 5.00pm 1 night stop.

Day 10. Sunday last day, all packed left camp site 7.45am 310 miles to Roscoff for 4.30pm ferry arriving back at Plymouth 9.30pm

1,646 miles.

A great time was had by all, roll on next. Pictures page 5

The Megaride The 17th Megaride took place on the 14th August this year, a change of

date from its traditional June slot due to gas main and traffic improvement

work in the city. Although this probably had an effect on the numbers attend-

ing, the event was still a success, this due primarily to the many hours of work

done by the organisers.

Our club members stepped up to the mark in numbers to work as marshals

at Lee Mill and on the Hoe , some starting at 7:00am (or earlier ) - many com-

mitting to helping out all day, helping to set up - and then managing what was

at times a challenging but rewarding task - organising thousands of bikes and

members of the public- personal note - thanks to those who ran our club stand.

The weather, though dodgy at first, turned out fine and the initial dribble

of riders arriving at Lee Mill swelled to a deluge as the departure time came

closer.

A different way of choosing the charities to benefit from the proceeds this

year meant that it was a members vote that decided the charity that we would

support, a fitting reward for their loyalty, and our winning charity was the

Chestnut Appeal. When all the riders had reached the Hoe and parked , the

traders were visited, some weary riders took time to bask in the sun, and mar-

shals thoughts turned to allowing them to leave safely- all went without too

many mishaps. The organisers wish to thank all those who gave their time on

the day.

The sum of £3500 will be given to each of the charities .
