2010 RECAP

For the 2010 Warriors men’s soccer team, there were big shoes to fill. The 2009 team had made a great run through the second half of the 09-10 season and marched through the play-offs to win the CACC Cham-pionship. The returners from that team provided a huge base for this year’s team and with additional players the Warriors were set to defend that title.

The start was strong with a 2-0 win over Mercy College, but hard times fell on the Warriors and they lost the next five games in a row in-cluding three one-goal loses. The team followed that with two victories over CACC opponents Felician and Wilmington getting them back into the race for play-offs. A turning point in the season came when the War-riors played a great game against Dominican, but lost 4-0. The team came together after this game and got focused on accomplishing a goal. The trip to Houghton was a good bonding experience, and though the team lost 2-1, the play was improved and upon their return, the team would finish the second half of the season with an 8-10-1 record with big wins over powerhouses like East Stroudsburg and CW Post.

The play-offs pitted Nyack College against Dominican for the sec-ond year in a row. The game was a very even match, and ended regula-tion and overtime tied 0-0. In the shoot-out, the Warriors came up short to the eventual CACC Champions. In the NCCAA Regional match, the Warriors, playing with a heavy-heart the day after Anne Jackson passed, lost a hard-fought battle to Mount Vernon Nazarene who nipped the War-riors 2-1 in overtime.

The Warriors placed Daniel Ocampo and Bajide Fatoba on the CACC All-Conference 2nd team, as well as Gavin Penny and Mikey Robinson as Honorable Mention All-CACC. Daniel Ocampo and Adrian Ibanez were named First team NCCAA All-Americans, Ocampo for the second time in his career. Mikey Robinson, Gavin Penny and Baba Fatoba were all Hon-arable-mention all East Region NCCAA. The warriors return 13 players to this year’s team and expect to make another run at the CACC Crown.
