Not everyone is allowed in His presence, only those who believe on the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ for their sin. Second, anyone who is allowed in the presence of God through salvation should live accordingly. Several words stand out: blameless, righteous, truth, and fear. These words describe the character of a transformed disciple. Church family and friends,

Is there anywhere better for us to be than dwelling in the presence of the Lord? Read and meditate on the words

of Psalm 15:

Lord, who may dwell in your sanctuary?

Who may live on your holy hill?

He whose walk is blameless and who does what is righteous,

who speaks the truth from his heart and has no slander on his tongue,

who does his neighbor no wrong and casts no slur on his fellowman,

who despises a vile man but honors those who fear the Lord,

who keeps his oath even when it hurts,

who lends his money without usury

and does not accept a bribe against the innocent.

He who does these things will never be shaken.

What should we take away from this amazing passage? Let me offer a few suggestions. First, it is a privilege and joy to be in the

presence of the Lord. Not everyone is allowed in His presence, only those who believe on the death, burial and resurrection of

Jesus Christ for their sin. Second, anyone who is allowed in the presence of God through salvation should live accordingly. Several

words stand out: blameless, righteous, truth, and fear. These words describe the character of a transformed disciple. A final take

away from Psalm 15 might be the promise that those who are in the presence, those who live accordingly, they will not be shaken.

Hope, confidence, and security…great to have in this uncertain world.

I love you all and I’m praying for you!

A couple of weeks ago, I was flipping through the channels, trying to find something to watch that wouldn’t require any thinking whatsoever. It had been a long day filled with heavy analytical thinking, and the last thing I wanted to do was to engage my mind. I wanted to see car chases, people acting stupid, and explosions—lots of explosions. Instead, I got Piers Morgan Tonight. Morgan was interviewing Academy Award winner Morgan Freeman. I’ve long been a fan of Freeman’s films—my first encounter with him as an actor was when I saw Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves as a child. And I’ve loved his work in subsequent roles, including The Shawshank Redemption and most recently in the revamped Batman franchise. Perhaps confusing Freeman for some of the roles he played, I just thought he would probably be a cool guy to get to know - you know, one of those hypothetical dinner guests. Nothing prepared me for what I was about to witness. The entire interview felt rather narcissistic. For instance, Freeman thought the director should always listen to him because he always knew what he was talking about. Alright, I thought, so he’s a diva - I guess you don’t become an Academy Award winning actor without being one. But then Piers Morgan asked Freeman, “Are you a God-fearing man?” - to which Freeman responded, “I don’t fear anything.” And then Freeman quickly added, “I am God.” Apparently his role in two Almighty films has gone to his head. I was shocked. Outraged. Saddened. Here was a guy who had been blessed by God in so many ways—talent, money, influence—and who wanted to worship the gift over the Giver. And even more than that, he wanted to worship himself. But then I thought, “Well, really, he just put into words what most of us think anyway.” Sure, most of us would never claim to be God. But the way we live sure says an awful lot. We’ve made ourselves the “title role” in our own lives. We’ve made our story all about us. We do what we want - we seek the Lord in nothing. In our war against temptation and sin, we too easily give in to our fleshly cravings instead of being holy as He is holy. Everything about our lives screams “I am God.” So while Freeman’s words are blasphemous and reprehensible, I fear my life is even more deplorable. I need to repent. God, you are God; I am not. I want my life to glorify you, not me. Change the way I think—let me be consumed with making much of you and less of me. And change the Morgan Freeman that lives inside of me. I turned off the TV. So much for not engaging my mind…

Musical Notes

The Senior Adult Choir has been having a great time working on our Christmas musical, “Come, And Adore Him!” There are great songs, old and new to learn and share. Join us in the choir room for rehearsal at 10:00 AM, on Tuesdays. Coffee and doughnuts, fellowship and friendship, praise and prayer, singing and silliness; that’s our formula for a mid-week pick me up. Come and be blessed and be a part of the blessing! As our Children’s Choirs are working hard to prepare their Christmas musical drama “I Hope Christmas,” rehearsal attendance becomes more important. Moms & Dads, check the rehearsal schedule your child brought home at the beginning of the semester, and the reminder we sent home in late October. There aren’t many rehearsals left! Please help your children to be a part of this growth experience. Our regular rehearsal time is Wednesday at 6:00 PM. The Adult Choir continues to do an amazing job of learning and singing “Messiah”. As if that weren’t enough, we’re still learning new songs to share in worship each week. We’re coming down the home stretch toward the holiday season. Busy days are ahead and there is much work to be done. Now is the time to renew your commitment to being here Wednesday at 7:10 PM for the fastest 80 minutes of the week. Notes of Thanks

A huge “THANK YOU!” goes out to all who helped feed the North Greenville University Choir and Orchestra. I know their music ministered to us, but you may not be aware of how much your meal ministered to them. Most places they go feed them pizza. The students and their parents were surprised by and really enjoyed the home-cooked meal, and the loving and generous way we received them. I feel so blessed to be a part of such a sweet and gracious fellowship. One Final Note

I love the Fall. Football season, cooler temperatures, and colorful leaves are just a few of the seasonal perks. For the last couple of weeks Kim and I have been on foliage patrol. We travel into the mountains to view the vibrant vistas. As all who enjoy that activity know, the higher you go the better the view. Now, there are good views from the side of the road. But the really spectacular views, the unobstructed “on-a-clear-day-you can-see-forever” views are only available from the tops of the mountains. For those, you have to get out of the car and climb up the mountain. It’s not an easy task. The climb is steep and the ground is uneven. Progress is slow and it’s easy to stumble and fall. The temptation to give up and say, “This is good enough,” is very strong. But when you hit the top and see the view “Look what I’ve done!” is quickly replaced with, “Look at what the Lord has done!” Perspective changes everything. That’s why Paul advised his friends at Philippi, “Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus:” Philippians 2:5 (KJV). It is the one with the humble, eternal perspective that is rewarded with Christ-likeness. The climb is tough, but the reward is great
