An undying devotion to God and His Word...that’s what it’s all about!
What does this look like at First Lyman?
1. We love God
2. We learn His ways
3. We lead others to do the same.
Beginning in August you’ll be hearing more and more about this undying devotion and
these three significant statements. You’ll hear them from your Sunday School leadership,
you’ll hear them in leadership meetings, you’ll hear them in choir practice, you’ll
especially hear them from the pulpit. The Lord has laid this purpose squarely before us.
What does it mean to you? Well, do you love God? What or who do you love more than
Him? Our task is to assist you in loving God with the same passion and devotion that He
has for you. Second, are you learning God’s ways? I’m not talking knowledge, but
knowledge with application of truth in your life. That’s our goal every time we open the
Word of God with you. Third, are you living in such a way that others are loving God and
learning His ways because of your influence in their lives? That’s called making disciples.
Making disciples flows from an undying devotion to God and His Word! That’s what First
Lyman is all about! Join us in this Biblical endeavor.
Blessings...Pastor Scott

By the time you are reading this, we should be heading back from New Orleans. Take a few minutes and celebrate what God did this week. We can’t wait to share about it when we do get back! Pray for those we encountered and ask God to cause the seed He planted to grow. Pray for those who decided to follow Christ this week and ask God to help them to grow in their faith and to get plugged in to a local church. Pray for the homeless people we encountered and ask God to bless them, to supply their need, and to open their eyes to their need for Him. Pray for the children with whom we worked and ask God to grow them up to be godly men and women. And pray for our safety as we travel back to Lyman. Finally, pray for us that as we come back home, the mission we experienced in New Orleans will continue in Lyman. Pray that we as a church will desire to take the good news of Jesus to our streets, to our schools, to our children. New Orleans desperately needs Jesus, but so does Lyman. What are you doing to advance God’s kingdom right here at home? Let’s stay on mission and live out Jesus to those we see every day! Thanks for praying for us - and now, let’s keep praying, and let’s keep striving to make His glory known right here, right now!
Musical Notes The Senior Adult Choir will not rehearse on Tuesday, July 26th. We will resume our regular schedule on Tuesday, August 2nd, at 10:00 AM in the choir room. We will be hitting the road to share songs of encouragement in just a few weeks. We even have a few Christmas songs to work on. Come and share in the joy of the Lord as we prepare our hearts and voices for His service. The Adult choir is still on the summer schedule. Rehearsal begins at 6:00 PM in the choir room. In addition to our preparations for the “Messiah sing-a-long,” we have some great, new music to learn and share. Adult Choir rehearsal is the fastest hour (OK. I know it’s longer than an hour.) of the week! Join us this week and be blessed!
One Final Note Not many people think of a McDonald’s Big Mac when they think of “comfort food.” But after two weeks on a mission trip in Indonesia, eating everything from goat to monkey and I don’t even want to know what else, when I spotted the “Golden Arches” my heart leapt within me. I was tired of eating only that which was burnt or boiled. I was tired of brushing my teeth with bottled water and living in constant fear of ingesting some malevolent amoeba. “Finally,” I sighed, “American food! I can relax.” I might as well have swallowed a hand grenade. I learned a profound truth that day. In Indonesia, all food is Indonesian food. It may be packaged in a “Happy Meal” box or in a bucket with the Colonel’s picture on the side, but it is still Indonesian food. It is not the package, it is the food inside that keeps us free from sickness. See, I was tired and I was fooled by the familiar. Don’t we all get caught up in that from time to time? We get fooled by packaging and before we know it we’ve got a mouthful of something that will make us sick. That’s why it is so important for us to feast on God’s Word. Being filled with His Truth is our best defense against the
