Chris Adams is in his eighth season at the helm of the women’s soccer program at North Georgia College & State University in 2010-11. He is the third head coach in the program’s nine-year history and has accumulated an overall record of 56-57-12 for a .496 winning percentage.

Last season, the Lady Saints finished 10-5-2 overall, sending Adams to Peach Belt Confer-ence Coach of the Year honors in the league. North Georgia picked up the most notable victory in program history last year, knocking off 3rd-ranked Columbus State University on the road to send CSU to their first conference loss in over four years and breaking the Cougars’ 36-game winning streak in league action.

In 2008, Adams’ squad finished 8-7-2 overall and 5-3 in the Peach Belt Conference to fin-ish fourth in the league, the programs highest finish since entering the NCAA four years ago. North Georgia also hosted their first-ever NCAA postseason game in 2008, falling 2-0 to Armstrong Atlantic in the first round of the PBC Tournament.

In 2007, Adams’ team finished with a record of 7-9-1 and a birth in the Peach Belt Confer-ence tournament.

In 2006, just their second season of competition at the NCAA Division II level last season, Adams led the Lady Saints to an 8-8-2 record and a sixth-place finish in the conference race. The Lady Saints also placed three players on the All-Conference team, the most in the program’s history.

Adams led the Lady Saints to their first-ever victory as a member of the NCAA Division II, when they defeated Georgia Southwestern 7-0 on October 5, 2005. He later led the Lady Saints to the first-ever Peach Belt Conference victory, defeating the University of South Carolina-Aiken 3-1 on October 15, 2005.

Adams joined the coaching staff as head men’s and women’s soccer coach in 2003. In two seasons at the helm of the men’s program, Ad-ams led North Georgia to a 19-17-2 mark and was named the Southern States Athletic Conference (SSAC) Coach of the Year in 2004. He led the Saints to a third place finish in the conference and their first NAIA Regional Tournament appearance in the program’s history. As the head women’s soccer coach, Adams guided the team to a 12-8-2 record in 2004 and a fourth place finish in the Southern States Athletic Conference, with a 7-4-0 record.

Adams began his coaching career in 1995 while an undergraduate at the University of Georgia (UGA), where he helped build the first women’s soccer team. In the first year of competition, the Lady Bulldogs went 10-5-3 overall and posted a 3-3-2 mark in the Southeastern Conference (SEC). In his three seasons with Georgia, The Lady Bulldogs compiled a 39-19-4 overall record and a 14-8-2 record in SEC play.

Following graduation Adams took a job at Jacksonville State University (AL) as the head assistant coach. He returned to his hometown of Athens in 1999 to manage the soccer program at the YWCO. After directing the program for two years, Adams began teaching at Clarke Central High School in Athens, where he coached the boy’s and girl’s soccer teams, and taught health and physical education.

Adams received a B.S. degree, from the University of Georgia in 1998, in Physical Education and Health with a Coaching Emphasis. He is currently pursuing his M.Ed. in Health at the University of Alabama.

He holds a United States Soccer Fed-eration (USSF) National “A” License, a USSF National Youth License, and a National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Advanced Na-tional License.

North Georgia College & State University is a coeducational state university empha-sizing strong liberal arts, as well as pre-professional, professional, and graduate programs. Serving as a liberal arts univer-sity for all of its students and as a military college for its Corps of Cadets, the univer-sity is distinct in many ways. As the only four-year public institution in northeast Georgia, NGCSU offers a quality college experience in a beautiful mountain setting, about an hour north of Atlanta.

Specializing in leadership training and pro-ducing leaders since 1873, the university has been designated by the state as The Leadership Institution of Georgia .

For more than 130 years , North Georgia has been helping students discover re-markable things about themselves and the world. Our graduates gain a solid founda-tion on which to build their lives --not only a quality education, but cherished memo-ries of great experiences, lifelong friends and good times.

The administration, faculty, and staff at North Georgia are dedicated to the educa-tion and traditional values which enable students to excel in whatever field they pursue.

Located in Dahlonega, Georgia, a small historic town in the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains, the university offers more than 50 majors to prepare students for nearly

any career. With more than 4,000 students, North Georgia College & State University is large enough to provide a wide array of opportunities and activities, but small enough to allow personal attention from professors and to foster friendships among students.

Nestled in the mountains, the gold-rush town of Dahlonega has kept its historic charm and spirit. In this town of fewer than 4,000, students easily walk to nearby res-taurants, shops, banks and churches. The campus is safe, clean, and friendly, with the excitement and entertainment of metro Atlanta only a 90-minute drive away.

Surrounded by the Chattahoochee National Forest, North Georgia College & State Uni-versity is an outdoor enthusiast’s dream, with endless places for hiking, mountain climbing, hunting, fishing, bird-watching, whitewater rafting, canoeing and camping. This area of North Georgia draws many visitors who enjoy its lush forests, stunning waterfalls and abundant wildlife.

Peach Belt Conference

Now entering its 21st year of existence in 2010-11, the Peach Belt Conference has become one of the elite Division II con-ferences in the nation. Since its inception in 1990-91, the Peach Belt has developed a consistent history of excellence which continues to this day with 28 national championships and 25 national finalist

Starting with only two championships in 1991, in men’s and women’s basket-ball, the conference has expanded to 13 championship sports with the addition of women’s golf in the fall of 2009.

The conference traces its roots back to November of 1988 when 11 schools first met in Greenville, S.C. to form a Divi-sion II conference. Following a second meeting on Dec. 3, 1989, five of those 11 schools, plus two others, formed the Peach Belt and begin play in fall 1990.

The Peach Belt was less than a year old before capturing a national champion-ship. The Columbus State golf team took the honor by winning the 1992 national crown, the first of three golf champion-ships the Cougars own. One year later, the Lander men’s tennis team began their record-breaking run of eight straight na-tional titles, the first PBC dynasty. Since then, USCA men’s golf has won three straight national titles from 2004-06 while AASU women’s tennis has cap-tured four titles overall.

The 2008-09 season was among the con-ference’s most memorable. The Arm-strong Atlantic State men’s and women’s tennis teams both won their respective national championships – for the sec-ond year in a row; a feat only done once before in college tennis. In addition, the Augusta State men’s basketball team became the first conference program to make back-to-back trips to the NCAA Elite Eight, Armstrong Atlantic became the first PBC volleyball team ever to ad-vance to the Elite Eight and the North Georgia softball team was ranked #1 in the nation and reached the World Series.

The seven charter members of the con-ference were Armstrong Atlantic State University, Columbus State University, Francis Marion University, Georgia Col-lege & State University, Lander Univer-sity, USC Aiken and USC Upstate. The name Peach Belt Athletic Conference was adopted in January of 1990 and modified to Peach Belt Conference in May of 2000.

Augusta State joined the conference in 1991 and UNC Pembroke became the ninth member on July 1, 1992. They were followed by Kennesaw State University on July 1, 1994, Clayton State Univer-sity on July 1, 1995 and the University of North Florida on July 1, 1997. Kennesaw State and North Florida departed for the Division I ranks in 2005, USC Upstate did the same in 2007, and the conference welcomed in North Georgia College & State University in 2005 and Georgia Southwestern State University in 2006.

For 2009-10, the Peach Belt has grown once again with the addition of the Uni-versity of Montevallo and Flagler Col-lege, giving the PBC 13 members, the most the league has ever had. The addi-tion of the two schools returns the PBC to the state of Florida and expands the

league into Alabama for the first time.David Brunk was named the second PBC commissioner in May of 2007. Brunk replaced Marvin Vanover, who was the first PBC commissioner from 1991 to 2007. Brunk is charged with continuing the strong growth of the conference as its second era begins.

Dr. David Potter, president of North Georgia College & State University, re-turns as the president of the Peach Belt in 2010-11.

The conference currently holds cham-pionships in 13 sports, six for men and seven for women. They are men’s and women’s cross country, men’s and women’s soccer, volleyball, men’s and women’s basketball, men’s and women’s tennis, baseball, softball and men’s and women’s golf.
