“Wake Up!” —submitted by jaysDate Posted: 7/8/2003 Style: EX V-6 4dr Sedan (3.0L 6cyl 5A) Rating: 7.8

ReviewAwesome engine, but the responsive and sporty handling of 91 Accord is much better than 2003 ! This one is very ok. Shape is horrible, so is trunk space. Sound system seems 49 years old. New Maxima much better for the price.

Favorite Features: Engine.

Suggested Improvements: Better feel for V-6, Trunk Space, Stereo & Shape. Too much to handle? Mark the price down then!

“honda 2-dr 03” —submitted by djhimesDate Posted: 4/24/2003 Style: EX 2dr Coupe (2.4L 4cyl 5A) Rating: 9.6

ReviewTotally pleased and a big improvement over my previous 2002 model.

Favorite Features: Bigger engine w/ better fuel economy. really like the keyless entry built into key, and the ability to roll the windows down before you get to the car (with the remote).

Suggested Improvements: cup holders in console don’t like “Coke” shaped bottles (they tend to be diff. to get out).

“Awesome” —submitted by GoNewmanDate Posted: 5/1/2003 Style: EX 2dr Coupe (2.4L 4cyl 5A) Rating: 10.0

ReviewI am 21 and this is my 16th car. This is by far the best. It looks great, handles great, and the brakes are awesome. I couldn’t have asked for more for the price!

Favorite Features: Brakes, gauges, stereo, styling, 5speed auto, comfortable seats.

Suggested Improvements: Lighted steering wheel controls and a one touch sunroof. I hate having to hold the buttons down.

“5 speed fun but 6 may be better” —submitted by ManorDate Posted: 11/16/2002 Style: LX 2dr Coupe (2.4L 4cyl 5M) Rating: 1.0

ReviewI can’t afford the 6 speed v6. I love the CLK-look-alike look of the rear end. The front fascia of the coupe is weird. The headlights look like the ones on the Altima. Is Honda having trouble with design-ing on their own?

Favorite Features: 5 speed. I like to shift by myself.

Suggested Improvements: Factory body kits with warranty and 17 inch alloys.

14. Glossary

Price with Options Glossary

InvoiceThe base invoice price that a manufacturer charges a franchised dealer.

MSRPManufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price. This is a recommended retail price as suggested by the

manufacturer and posted on the vehicle. The retailing dealer is free to sell the vehicle for any price they choose.

National Base PriceThe national market price for the base configuration of this vehicle. This figure does not include

optional equipment and destination charges.

Regional Base PriceMarket price for the base configuration of this vehicle, regionally adjusted using the zip code

entered. This figure does not include optional equipment and destination charges.

Standard EquipmentThe standard equipment or accessories included on a specific vehicle model.

Optional EquipmentOptional equipment or accessories available for inclusion on a specific vehicle model.

Destination ChargeA flat fee that the manufacturer charges to deliver a vehicle from the factory to the dealership. The

fee is not negotiable and is generally the same amount no matter how far or near you live from the factory.

Customer RebatesThese are different from manufacturer-to-dealer incentives and don’t impact the actual transac-

tion price; the consumer generally has the choice to apply these funds against the sales price as a down payment or to accept a check for the amount of the rebate or incentive.

Dealer IncentivesManufacturer to dealer incentives and rebates are programs offered by the manufacturers to

increase sales of slow-selling models, or to reduce inventory levels. Incentives can take the form o f either direct cash back or low-rate financing offers. If both financing and cash are offered for the same model, the buyer must choose which he or she would prefer.

TMV®True Market Value prices are statistically modeled estimates of actual market transaction prices.

They are based on actual transaction prices that are used as inputs into Edmunds.com’s proprietary statistical model.

Color AdjustmentThe price of a new vehicle may differ based on your choice of color and the area in which you are

looking for this color. TMV® uses actual transaction data to calculate this adjustment.

About True Cost to OwnSM (TCO)Edmunds.com’s True Cost to OwnSM is a proprietary tool that helps you estimate the total five-year cost of buying and owning a vehicle - including some items you may not have taken into consid-eration. A benefit of using this tool is that you can easily compare the five-year totals for different vehicles and make a more informed choice.

The costs that we estimate include depreciation, interest on financing, taxes and fees, insurance premiums, fuel, maintenance and repairs. In order to estimate certain mileage-dependent costs, we assume that vehicles have been driven an average of 15,000 miles per year. For used vehicles, we cal-culate mileage using the nominal difference between the current calendar year and the vehicle’s model year.

Note that TCO is a comparative tool, not a predictive tool - your actual five-year cost of owning a particular vehicle will vary depending on your personal circumstances, such as your driving history and the number of miles you drive.

How We Calculate True Cost to OwnThe True Cost to OwnSM calculations use the following set of assumptions:

· Ownership expenses are considered over a five-year time span

· You will drive an average of 15,000 miles per year

· You are financing the vehicle using traditional financing, not lease financing

· You are in the Silver credit tier for the purpose of determining your finance rate

· You are putting a 15% down payment on the vehicle at purchase

· Your retail contract term is 60 months

· You represent the average demographic for insurance rate consideration

Using proprietary formulas, we calculate the five-year costs for the seven cost categories that make up the TCO (depreciation, insurance, financing, taxes & fees, fuel, maintenance and repairs). We do not account for special offers from the manufacturers (i.e. cash rebates or subsidized APR), which may result in a lower net cost of ownership. This is due to the variability in the offers as well as the eligibil-ity rules for such offers.

Explanation of True Cost to OwnSM Terms

DepreciationThis is the amount by which the value of a vehicle declines from its purchase price. The purchase

price employed is the vehicle’s True Market Value® price in your state (including typical equipment and destination charge). The resale value assumes the vehicle will be in “clean” condition, will be driven an average of 15,000 miles per year, and will be sold to a private party.

Edmunds.com Research Reports Model Overview Page 20 of XX

Edmunds.com Style Research Report

InsuranceThis is the estimated average annual insurance premium being charged by insurers in your state.

The premium has been determined based on industry-wide, state-by-state data from the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC)* for all makes, models, drivers, usage/mileage, etc. for the major coverages (liability, comprehensive and collision), and vehicle-specific rating data from three of the country’s largest insurance companies.

While this information is specific to vehicle make, model, model year and body type, your per-sonal information is not taken into consideration and could greatly alter the actual premium quoted by an insurer. Factors that will affect your rate include your age, marital status, credit history, driving record, and the garaging address of your vehicle.

* Data from the NAIC’s most recently available Average Auto Expenditure and Premium report has been used in this calculation. The NAIC does not endorse or support any analysis or conclusions based upon the use of this data.

FinancingThis is the interest expense on a loan in the amount of the True Market Value® purchase price

(including typical equipment) plus the destination charge and the base sales tax and initial fees for your state, assuming a 15% down payment and a loan term of 60 months. The interest rate used is the prevailing rate that banks and other direct automotive lenders are charging consumers in your geographic region who are in the Silver credit tier (which encompasses the majority of the car-buying population) of the Edmunds.com Finance Rate Estimator.

Note: Even if you do not finance your vehicle, the inclusion of financing cost in determining True Cost to OwnSM is still appropriate because it reflects the “opportunity cost” of the return you could have made if you had invested the Purchase Price elsewhere.

Taxes & FeesSometimes referred to as DMV fees, this consists of the base sales taxes, license and registration

fees in your state, and gas guzzler tax if applicable. These taxes and fees are frequently based on a per-centage of the purchase price, and generally decrease as the vehicle ages and loses its value. Note that the state sales tax that we use does not include any adjustments for local or county taxes.

FuelThis expense is based on EPA mileage figures, assuming consumption consists of two-thirds high-

way and one-third city driving, and that the vehicle has an automatic transmission unless automatic is not available. Cost estimates are based on self-service prices, using an average mix of two-thirds regular grade and one-third mid-grade gasoline; premium gasoline for vehicles whose manufacturers recommend premium grade; or diesel fuel for diesel models.

MaintenanceThis is the estimated expense of two types of maintenance: scheduled and unscheduled. Sched-

uled maintenance is the performance of factory-recommended items at periodic mileage and/or calendar intervals. Unscheduled maintenance includes wheel alignment and the replacement of items such as the battery, brakes, headlamps, hoses, exhaust system parts, taillight/turn signal bulbs, tires and wiper blades/inserts. Estimated tire replacement costs are supplied to Edmunds.com by The Tire Rack, Inc.

Edmunds.com Style Research Report

RepairsThis is the estimated expense for repairs not covered by the vehicle manufacturer’s warranties

over the five years from the date of purchase, assuming an average of 15,000 miles are driven annu-ally. This expense is based on the cost of a typical “zero deductible” extended warranty for the vehicle, minus the estimated amount of that cost that consists of the warranty provider’s overhead and profit.

Purchase PriceFor new vehicles, the Purchase Price Total shown is the sum of the vehicle’s True Market Value®

(TMV) price, typically equipped options, destination charge, base tax and fees for the state, and, if applicable, guzzler tax. For used vehicles, the Purchase Price Total shown is the sum of the vehicle’s Private Party TMV® price in “clean” condition, typically equipped options, and base tax and fees for the state.

Explanation of the True Cost to Own Ratings

Operating costThese are the ongoing “out of pocket” costs associated with owning and operating a new vehicle:

Financing, Insurance, Taxes & Fees, Fuel, Maintenance, and Repairs. This rating displays the vehicle’s relative ranking in terms of operating costs when compared to the other vehicles in its category.

Depreciation costThis is the amount by which the value of a new vehicle declines from its purchase price as defined

by its Edmunds.com True Market Valuereg; price. This rating displays the vehicle’s relative ranking in terms of depreciation percentage when compared to the other vehicles in its category.

Explanation of Financial Calculators’ Terms

Vehicle Sales Price (Before Customer Cash Incentives)The price you pay for the vehicle. When you select a specific vehicle, Edmundspre-populates this

field with the sum of the Edmunds.com True Market Value® price for your state and the applicable destination charges.

Page 22: 2010 Honda Accord

Edmunds.com Style Research Report

State Sales Tax PercentageThe state and local sales taxes levied on the Vehicle Sales Price. Edmunds pre-populates this field

based on your state, if you have entered a ZIP code. State sales tax often includes a supplement levied by individual cities or counties, so you should adjust this amount accordingly. Note that the sales tax levied on your vehicle will be based on the state and locality in which the vehicle is registered.

Title, Registration & Other CostsFees and charges customarily charged, including vehicle title, state registration, dealer documen-

tation, government fees, service contracts and any additional equipment not included in the Vehicle Sales Price. Additional equipment may include “aftermarket” equipment that is installed by the dealer before delivery.

Customer Cash IncentivesThe amount offered by the manufacturer to encourage the lease/sale of selected vehicles. This is

normally credited as a down payment against the Vehicle Sales Price.

Cash Down PaymentFor a vehicle purchase, the amount of your down payment. For a vehicle lease, an initial payment

that reduces the capitalized cost (i.e., the amount you finance) or that is applied to other amounts pay-able at lease signing.

My Trade-In ValueThe value of your old vehicle credited towards the purchase or lease of the vehicle you are acquir-

ing. You can find the value of your current used vehicle by using the Used Vehicle Appraiser.

Finance Rate (APR)For a vehicle purchase, the annualized cost of credit, expressed as a percentage. Edmunds pre-

populates this field with the Silver-tier finance rate value from the Edmunds.com Finance Rate Estimator for your geographic region and for the loan term you select. This interest rate is the prevail-ing rate being charged by banks and other direct automotive lenders to consumers who fall into the third-highest credit tier (which encompasses the majority of the car-buying population).

Finance Term (months)For a vehicle purchase, the number of months of the term of your loan. Edmunds uses a default

finance term of 48 months.

Miles Driven/YearThe average number of miles you expect to drive each year during the finance or lease term. Ed-

munds uses a default of 15,000 miles/year.

Lease Term (months)For a vehicle lease, the number of months of the term of your lease. Edmunds uses a default lease

term of 36 months.

Lease Residual ValueThe leasing company’s assumption of what the vehicle will be worth at the end of the lease term.

The higher the residual that is used, the lower your monthly payments will be.

Money FactorAlso called the “lease factor,” this is the implicit interest rate you are charged in a vehicle lease.

Money factor is a method of expressing an interest rate that is more suited to computing your monthly

Page 23: 2010 Honda Accord

2010 Honda Accord EX V6

Edmunds.com Research Reports Model Overview Page 23 of XX

Edmunds.com Style Research Report

payments. It is calculated by dividing the percentage interest rate by 2400 (regardless of the length of the loan). For example, 7.2% interest expressed as a money factor is 0.003. Edmunds pre-populates this field with the Silver-tier finance rate values from the Edmunds.com Finance Rate Estimator for your geographic region and for the financing term you select. See Finance Rate (APR) above.

Acquisition FeeFor a vehicle lease, a fee charged by the leasing company that covers a variety of administrative

costs, such as the costs of obtaining a credit report, verifying insurance coverage, checking the ac-curacy and completeness of the lease documentation, and entering the lease in data processing and accounting systems. This charge may also be called a bank fee, an administrative fee or an assignment fee.

Disposal/Purchase FeeFor a vehicle lease, the fee charged by the leasing company to defray the cost of preparing and

selling the vehicle at the end of the lease, if you decide not to purchase the vehicle. If you do elect to purchase the vehicle, the fee may be imposed by the leasing company to defray the costs of transfer-ring title to the vehicle.

Security DepositFor a vehicle lease, the amount you may be required to pay, usually at the commencement of the

lease, that may be used by the leasing company in the event of a default. Any unused amount will be refunded to you at the end of the lease term.

Estimated Payoff on TradeThe amount still owed on the current financing, if any, on your trade-in. When you trade your

vehicle into a dealer, the dealer will normally pay off the loan balance to secure clear title. The differ-ence between the trade-in value and the actual payoff on the trade is treated as a credit/debit against the Vehicle Sale Price.

Special Finance Rate (Low APR)For a vehicle purchase, a lower subsidized finance rate offered by the manufacturer or dealer to

encourage the sale of selected vehicles.

MSRPManufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price, sometimes called the “sticker price.” The amount that the

vehicle manufacturer recommends that dealers charge for the vehicle.
