A Reflection of Life in Lake Naomi & Timber Trailswww.LakeNaomiClub.com

Robert Jones Named General ManagerAs a key part of the succession planning for the General Manager’s position, Robert

Jones, was hired in 2005 to serve as the Club’s Assistant General Manager. Robert is a gradu-ate of the Culinary Institute of America and for the three years prior to joining the Lake Naomi Club Management Team served as the Assistant General Manager for the Lakewood Ranch Golf and Country Club located in Florida. Robert was being groomed by Lakewood to be the General Manager. Fortunately for Lake Naomi – Timber Trails, Robert is originally from Pennsylvania and he and his wife Michelle, along with their son Robby and daughters Shelby and Kelsey, had a strong desire to return to Pennsylvania to be closer to family.

Upon Robert’s arrival he immediately went to work revamping the Clubhouse and other Food and Beverage operations. Robert’s success in just this one area has been nothing short of outstanding. Robert currently oversees all of the day to day operations of the Club. The Club’s GM Succession Plan had as an ultimate goal Robert stepping into the General Manag-er’s position in 2010. The Club’s Board of Trustees named Robert General Manager effective May 1, 2010. Robert has given the Club one hundred and ten percent of his effort as Assistant General Manager. The Members can expect no less of him as the General Manager.

Congratulations to Robert on all he has accomplished to date for the Club and all he is bound to accomplish as the Club’s new GM.Strategic Planning Update

Strategic Planning is a disciplined effort to produce fundamental decisions and actions that shape and guide what an organization is, what it does and why it does it, with a focus on the future. The Club has always had a Strategic Plan. However the Club has taken action over the past two years to formalize the Club’s Strategic Plan.

At the direction of the Board of Trustees, the Management Team was assigned the task of developing a draft of a Strategic Plan for the Club that could be “handed off” to the Strategic Planning Committee. Management completed that task and presented the “Strategic Plan Handoff Draft” in May of 2009.

Since that time the Strategic Planning Committee, an Ad-Hoc Committee of the Long Range Planning Committee, has been spearheading the project. The Committee has met ten times and a number of Committee Members have worked on updates of various components of the Draft Strategic Plan between meetings.

The Strategic Planning Committee recently presented the latest draft of the Club’s Stra-tegic Plan to the Board of Governors and Long Range Planning Committee and is seeking their input. Further updates are anticipated once input from the Board of Governors is ob-tained. The Strategic Planning Committee will make a presentation on the plan’s status for Club Members at the Club’s August 14, 2010 Annual Meeting.

The Draft Strategic Plan will be posted on the Club’s website in mid-August and a forty-five day Club Member comment period will be provided. As an ongoing part of the Strategic Plan, the Club is planning to survey the Members in 2011 or 2012. The results of the survey will be used to further update the Strategic Plan which will be used as a working document and be updated a minimum of once a year.

The Strategic Plan is very different that the Long Range Facilities Plan which deals only with Club Facilities. The Long Range Facilities Plan is handled independent of the Strategic Plan by the Long Range Planning Committee.

In Memoriam Board of Governors OpeningsThe Board of Governors is currently seeking

volunteers to serve on the Board as Members at large. The BOG is made up of Members at large and Chairs of the Business and Community Committees. The BOG reviews rules and regulations, assists in developing the annual budget, discusses recommendations made by the various Committees and when a proposal is passed, it is sent to the Board of Trustees for consideration. The BOG is an integral part of the governing system that brings new ideas to the Club. Applicants are encouraged to bring their experience to enhance our ever-growing Community and its programs.

The Board of Governors meets five or six times a year on a Saturday for about two hours. Members interested in serving on the Board of Governors can contact the Administrative Office at (570) 646-9191 or fill out an application online at www.Lak-eNaomiClub.com located in the Online Office in the Members Section.

New Face in the Administrative Office

The Club is very pleased to announce that Irene Titus joined the Administrative Staff Team in March as a Receptionist/Secretary. Irene and her husband recent-ly relocated to Paradise Township from Nazareth. She was previously employed performing accounts payable/receivable and administrative duties for a construc-tion and realty management company in Bethlehem. Irene soon found the com-mute from her new home to Bethlehem too much and wanted to work closer to home. Irene’s experience, ability to take on new challenges and inviting personal-ity makes her a perfect addition to the Administrative Office.

Please join us in welcoming Irene to the Lake Naomi – Timber Trails Staff Team.

FacebookThe last two Reflections mentioned how the Membership/Marketing Committee is cul-

tivating a social media presence. The latest undertaking is launching a Lake Naomi Club Facebook Fan Page. Check it out, search for Lake Naomi Club on Facebook and when you see the Club’s logo you have found the official Fan page. Become a fan and begin the conversation with your fellow Lake Naomi – Timber Trails friends. The Club will be posting many pictures, events and announcements, so make it part of your daily routine to see who is on and what is going on with the Lake Naomi Club Facebook Fan Page. Hooray, the Summer Calendar is here!

We are happy to report that the Summer Calendars are available both in print and on line to help you chart out your summer adventures. The Summer Calendar is a very large project, requiring various departments and outside contractors to make commit-ments months in advance. A big thanks to the Operations Division who worked hard all winter long to ensure that the Summer Calendar would be issued early again this year. The Recreation Events and Activities are once again included in this one-stop listing of all summer activities. We hope that having the calendar and registration packet ahead of time will be a great convenience to Club Members. Refer to the Sum-mer Calendar often in order to maximize your enjoyment of all the Club has to offer.

Club Secret Weapons – Part TwoThe Club has weathered the economic downturn better than expected. Resale certifi-

cates issued by the Associations from January 1, 2010 through April 15, 2010 stood at 28 versus 13 for the same time period in 2009.

The Lake Naomi Club creates a sense of ownership. You “belong” to it, you become part of it and it becomes part of you. You share life’s happiest moments at the Club with your family and friends. Take pride in your Club! Introduce others to a Club experience they can not find anywhere else. Be an Ambassador and help preserve our Club as multiple generations have now come to know it.

Members play a big role in the continued success of the Club. While Lake Naomi-Timber Trails has great facilities and beautiful natural resources, it is the people who make us a family. No matter the challenges related to the economy, it is the Club Members that have always sustained the Club. You are the Club’s secret weapons.

Capital Enhancement Dollars at Work on the Golf CourseWith some cooperation from Mother Nature, the 2010 Golf Season officially started

on Friday, April 16th. Golf Course Superintendent Todd Moyer and his Team did a great job getting the course prepared and are always striving to exceed Club Mem-ber’s expectations.

One the newest additions to the course is a much improved restroom facility between holes four and five. This project was funded through the 2010 Capital Enhancement Budget. The Club’s Project Manager Scott Hall served as the General Contrac-tor for the project and delivered a first class result that has Member’s buzzing.

Also new to the course are hand railings at both tee boxes on holes two and nine as well as addi-tional landscaping adjacent to the tee box on hole eight. These Member supported projects are sure to enhance the LN-TT golf experience for many years to come.

Lake Naomi Club Volunteer SpotlightA conversation with Anita Scarperia began by exploring Anita’s volunteer

work within Lake Naomi-Timber Trails and quickly shifted into an enthusi-astic chronicle of wonderful intergenerational community experiences and the many opportunities for community socialization. Anita, reluctantly and humbly, shared her Tennis Committee volunteering, where she helped to organize events and shared in committee discussions of tennis related issues

that needed to be explored and resolved. She also touched upon her time as a Board of Governors at-large-member when the BOG studied and acted upon a major project relating to the phase-out of the use of snowmobiles in our community. Can those of you who did not experience the “before” of this project imagine the difference to our lovely, serene com-munity that the noise, pollution and danger that snowmobiles must have brought?

As reticent as Anita was about speaking to her volunteer contributions, when she spoke about her personal experiences within our community and those of her children and grand-children, she exploded with accolades about our administration and their foresight in work-ing to establish guidelines to keep our community safe and lovely and about the recreation programs for children that were held at the Beaver Brook recreation center prior to LNC having the wonderful Community Center. Anita’s children enjoyed their time spent in the recreation programs and made many life-long friends though associations with other young people in the programs. Anita gets great pleasure at seeing her grandchildren enjoy the same activities and associations.

The Scarperia family were New Jersey shore vacationers but changes in the shore envi-ronment and a rental experience in the Poconos brought them to explore the possibility of a vacation home here. A local realtor, sharing that Lake Naomi-Timber Trails was the best community in the Poconos, planted the seed and when they were ready they looked here within the LN-TT community. Both Anita and her husband Joe had stressful jobs. Joe ran his own business and Anita, after having taught school for several years, returned to school herself and became a therapist for psychological duel diagnosis clients. Both Anita and Joe felt they needed the respite and escape from their routines that LN-TT offered.

They bought their first house here in the 80’s and four upgrade purchases later, have settled in their Timber Trails home. Anita summered here with her daughter, Dee, during her teaching career and they continued to vacation here until they moved in permanently in the early 90’s.

Most of Anita’s volunteer time occurred while she was still actively employed but she willingly spent the volunteer hours to contribute to this wonderful community. An added benefit from providing community support was meeting so many new friends and establish-ing lasting relationships.

About 12 years ago, Anita’s husband, Joe, suffered a serious traumatic injury that has since altered their life dramatically. However, the immediate medical response and prompt and efficient medical attention made the difference between life and death for Joe. The LN-TT neighborhood also responded with love and support and other assistance for the family, not only right after the accident, but on a continuing basis.

Each of you has your own story and personal feelings about LNC and this amazing community, and each story is different. We gain so much from each other and even if an individual cannot physically volunteer within one of our organized committees, attending events and verbally supporting the community’s efforts as we change and improve, sustains other more physically present volunteerism.

Thank you Anita. Joyce McLaine, BOG Chair

Kids Klub is available to those Members and guests who are entering pre-kindergarten through eighth grade in the September 2010 school year. Swim Team Update Pool Members between the ages of 6 and 18 are invited to participate in this season’s

exciting swim team program. An organizational swim team meeting will be held on Monday, June 28th at the Lake Naomi Pool beginning at 9 AM with a practice swim for participants immediately following. All interested swimmers and parents are encour-aged to attend. All the necessary registration will be done at that time which includes the season’s meet and special event schedule as well as apparel ordering information. If you miss this meeting the information can be obtained from a swim team coach during the regular scheduled practice times that week. As always we will be looking for parent volunteers to assist with meets. Those details will also be covered in the meeting. For those of you considering volunteering some time, we thank you in advance.

The registration fee for the swim team program for 2010 is $80 per swimmer. Your coaching staff and swim team program will be supervised by long time swimmer and coach Lauren Travis. Her strong skill level and commitment to the program makes her the perfect candidate to oversee all the details of keeping our swimmers competi-tive and enjoying the sport. Jenn Kasper will remain involved but on a more limited basis as she will be helping the Club in additional areas this summer. Please feel free to contact Lauren or Jenn beginning June 28th at the Lake Naomi Pool. Prior to the season you may direct your questions to Meredith Sensenig at the Community Center at (570) 646-8585 or [email protected]. We look forward to seeing you at the pool.

Open Water SwimmingSeasoned swimmers, multi-sport enthusiasts or

those training for triathlons and/or open water swim events are invited to “open-water swim” in Lake Naomi Saturdays from 6:00 – 7:00 PM on the following dates: July 10th, 17th, 24th and 31st, August 7th & 14th.

Those interested in honing their open water swim skills should meet at 5:50 PM at Club Beach to check-in and pay a $2 per swimmer fee.

The one hour open water swim will be from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM, weather permit-ting. A course will be marked with buoys and a lifeguard will be scheduled on the lake dedicated to these swimmers.

Swimmers must purchase a brightly colored swim cap for this purpose that can be ordered through the Sailing Office on the beach level of the Lake Naomi Clubhouse.

Pool Luau Pool Members, mark Saturday, July

10th on your calendars to attend the al-ways fun and entertaining Pool Luau. From 6:30-10:00 PM. This year the Luau will be RAIN OR SHINE as the venue is moving to Timber Trails Pool. Too many years of rain dates and rain outs have swayed our opinion of what the perfect Luau location will be. Looking back 5 years we hosted the Luau at the TT Pool and it was a GREAT time! Members danced as long as we could get the DJ to stay! Registrations will be taken beginning Saturday, June 5th at the Community Center. For your convenience you may also sign up online at www.lak-enaomiclub.com. This exciting eve-ning will include a delicious island fare buffet dinner catered by the Club-house, DJ, a cash bar, activities and more all for a minimal $30 per person. Pool Members and eligible Guests are invited. Don’t miss out!

Water Aerobics Update In order to accommodate our Members better at the pool, we are making two slight

changes to the Water Aerobics programming this summer.#1. Shallow Water and Deep Water Aerobics will begin 15 minutes earlier each day. With

Shallow running from 10:15 – 11:00 AM and Deep from 11:15 to Noon – that will make for an easier time to advertise the deep well opening. Noon seems to be an easier time to re-member than 12:15. We hope this change will mean less kids running around ready to jump in and having to wait, as well as make for a more enjoyable end to the water aerobics class.

#2. Deep Water Aerobics is now available for 14 Members rather than 12 Mem-bers with no pre-registration required.

Please contact Meredith Sensenig at [email protected] with any questions and suggestions you may have regarding water aerobics.

Tennis Event Registrations Tennis Event Registration Forms are available at The Lake Naomi Tennis

Center. Ladies Team Tennis, Adult and Junior “Club Championship” Tournaments, and other events like the Wimbledon Strawberries & Crème Round Robin-Social are all available for sign-up with the Tennis Coordinator who begins opening the Tennis Proshop for weekend play on Saturday, May 1st. The preseason Proshop hours are from 8:30 AM to 1:30 PM and then will be open seven days a week from 7:30 AM to 7:00 PM for the main summer season beginning Saturday, June 26th. If you will not be in the area in the pre-season you may also call the Proshop at 570-646-7580 during the hours above for assistance. The entire 2010 Tennis Events and Tournament Schedule is on pages 24 & 25 of your Summer Calendar included in this mailing. These exciting events require early planning, so please include some of these dates on your calendars and register in advance with the Lake Naomi Tennis Center Pro Shop.

Tennis Dress Code Adult and Junior players are re-

minded to adhere to the Tennis Dress Code outlined in the 2010 Leisure Service Guide for the Lake Naomi and Timber Trails Tennis facilities:

Attire is to be approved Tennis apparel and footwear only, as deter-mined by the Lake Naomi Club. Only sneakers with smooth soles that will not cause damage to the court sur-face may be worn. Shirts with collars (for men) are a requirement in order to play Tennis at the Lake Naomi or Timber Trails Complexes. Sweaters and sweatshirts without collars and without distracting patterns are per-mitted. In protecting the integrity of the game, ABSOLUTELY NONE of the following will be permitted: cut-offs, jeans, cargo shorts, boxer shorts, tops exposing the bare midriff, T-shirts or non athletic shorts or pants. In the event of questionable attire, the deci-sion of the Management will be final.

Please make note of this policy to avoid any challenges with honoring your court time. Proper attire may be purchased at the Lake Naomi Tennis Pro Shop beginning Memorial Day Weekend. If you have questions re-garding this policy, please call the Tennis Pro Shop at 570-646-7580.

Youth Sports Time is Back! Young Members ages 10-15 are invited to play games and sports while at the Lake

Naomi Pool beginning July 9th through August 13th at 2:00 PM. Although a general pool rule is balls are not permitted, that is not the case during Youth Sports Time. This is the time to play in and around the pool with the help of the lifeguards and Pool Supervisors. Water basketball, volleyball and other fun games are being planned for good times for our young Members on Fridays this summer.

Pre-Season Tennis The Lake Naomi Tennis Center opened the first

Saturday in May for pre-season play. Because the Pro Shop and courts are only advertised as open on Weekends from 8:30 AM to 1:30 PM, we often get questions about how Members can utilize the courts during the times the Pro Shop is not open. In an effort to accommodate our year round Members and others in the area during these times, limited arrangements will be made. Prior to the main summer season, which begins Saturday, June 26th. Some of the Lake Naomi Tennis Center courts will be made available for Members to use on a walk on basis. Members may refer to the posting located on the Pro Shop door to find out which courts are available for play. During these times of “walk-on play”, the Pro Shop and additional staff services will not be available, with the exception of restrooms which are open anytime the courts are. Har-Tru sweeping and lining equipment will be available for Members to self maintain the courts throughout the day. Members using the courts must record their use in the sign-in binder provided at the Pro Shop door. Guests must also be signed in each time they play. Members must also follow all dress code and court etiquette guidelines listed on pages 50 and 51 of the 2010 Leisure Service Guide. Members using the courts must be Tennis Members and are reminded that current Membership Badges are required. Eligible Guests are wel-come to play, but Members are asked to abide by the Guest usage policy which states Guests are limited to ten visits at the facility each season. We hope this information helps clarify how Tennis Members can maximize their playing time in the pre-season.

Recreation Tennis Courts are Open

The two hard surface courts lo-cated by North Beach are open for use and unlocked daily as soon as Spring weather permits and remain open through Columbus Day. Res-ervation sheets are hung daily with a reservation sheet hung for Members to sign-up for court times beginning Memorial Day Weekend. One hour of court time per Membership is per-mitted per day. All Recreation Court guidelines enforced throughout the main summer season will also be in place for this early season play. The advanced reservation process begins the first day of the main summer sea-son, June 26th.

Tennis “Club Championship” TournamentsThe Tennis Committee has met and reviewed your suggestions regarding the Club

Championship Tournaments. The format changes made in 2009 worked very well and will continue in 2010.

All Divisions (Singles, Doubles and Mixed Doubles) of The Adult Championship Tournaments will have both A or B categories (replacing Open and 50s categories). The 65s category remains. Members may play in one category.

The Women’s Singles Division will be played in one long weekend since so many la-dies can not commit to two consecutive weekends for play. Men’s Singles will take place over the course of two weekends. Registrations for Adult Tournaments will be accepted up until the Wednesday at Noon prior to the Saturday the tournament begins.

A full weekend is dedicated to the Junior “Club Championship” Tournaments. Early rounds will play an eight game pro set and all semis and finals will be played out – best of three sets. All finals will be played on the Sunday of the Junior Weekend, August 1st.

New this year, all awards for all tournaments will be given immediately following play so the spectators can cheer on the winners. Specialty food menus will be available on deck to make the tournaments and awards even more enjoyable.

The Tennis Committee is always looking for ways to make improvements and your feedback is important. Please feel free to contact any Member of the Tennis Committee in person, or you may address them as a whole by placing your comments in the sugges-tion box located next to the bulletin board at the Lake Naomi Tennis Center.

TENNIS TALK The tennis season starts full-time

on Saturday, June 26th. Start it off by signing up for the Strategy/Round Robin Clinic from 2-4 PM.

You will rotate courts as in a regu-lar round robin, and when you ro-tate to Bobby and Richard’s court, you will be instructed on the theme of the Clinic which is the four main roles in doubles. It’s a great way to learn and to immediately apply that to your play. Online registration is available at www.lakenaomitennis.com

Juniors – plan for our Junior Jam-boree on Saturday, July 3rd from 1-3 PM. Fun, contests, prizes are what’s in store with no sign up required and no charge. Also, we would love to have all juniors participating in our Junior Team Tennis season on Wednesdays from 5:30-7 PM. The regular season runs from July 14th to August 11th. We will have a Team Tennis “warm-up” on Wednesday, July 7th.

Also, consider our two Parent/Child events, the first being Satur-day, July 17th from 3-5 PM, and our second one on Saturday, August 7th from 5:30-7 PM.

My staff and I love seeing you at the Lake Naomi Tennis Center. We truly love the game of tennis, be-lieve it can be beneficial in so many ways and we want to continue to en-courage and invite you to enjoy the “Sport for a Lifetime.”

Bobby McKee, Tennis Professional

Lake Naomi Tennis Courts NewsThe resurfacing of courts 5 & 6 is complete! The old surfacing was removed last Fall

and replaced with all new screenings for the base and new Har-Tru material on top. Members will no longer experience soft spots or odd bounces rather they can be assured the same or bet-ter quality they’re accustomed to on the other courts. Courts 5 & 6 are open each day the Pro shop is in the preseason, Weekends, May 1st – June 20th from 8:30 AM – 1:30 PM. Come try them out before they become the preferred courts for reservations.

Breast Cancer Rally at TennisAs the Club continues their commitment to raising funds for the Breast Cancer Foun-

dation, the tennis community will again be involved. The Tennis Committee, McKee Tennis and Operations Coordinator Meredith Sensenig will be planning a fun tennis day in conjunction with golf, as they did last year, allowing both tennis players and golfers to participate in this worthwhile event. Participants can participate in either or both events since they are held on separate days. The Tennis event will be Wednesday, July 21st, the day before the golf and dinner events. Mark 9:00 AM on your calendars now for an exciting day for a great cause. The next issues of Reflections will update the progress and outline all the details.

Ladies Sailing SessionsAs summer approaches we’d like to remind

ladies interested in sailing of the Lake Naomi Club Sailing Association’s interest in continuing their efforts to get more Ladies involved in sailing. Because the Club continues to receive feedback that the ladies are too busy to attend regular fleet gatherings or an event on the busy weekends, the Club will continue with Ladies Sailing “Sessions”. These sessions are for ladies of all abilities (even those with no previous sailing skills) who want to come share their experiences, ask their questions and get on the water. Seasoned lady sailors and instructors will conduct the sessions and discuss technique and boat information as the group dic-tates. The idea is to bring Lady Members with interest in sailing together. The only requirements are you must be at least 16 years of age and be able to swim. You do not need to own a boat as the Club rental program offers them. Please call to express your interest and to give some general information about yourself and your avail-ability. Groups will be formed to suit your needs with other ladies who have similar goals and availabilities. If you want to learn sailing the Club will make it happen for you! Please contact Meredith Sensenig at the Community Center at 646-8585 or email [email protected]. Important Sailing Race Reminders

The Lake Naomi Club Sailing Association requires all sailboats participating in any of the sailing races or regattas to have a number posted on their sail and to check in with the Race Committee prior to racing to indicate your intention to race. When doing so simply sail to the downwind side of the Tiki and hail your information to the Race Com-mittee. You must tell them your full name and boat number and that you’re registering to race. This is the norm for sailboat racing as it is the only way for the Race Commit-tee to adequately track all participants involved and expecting their start and finish to be tallied in the scoring. It is also customary to inform the Race Committee if you’re leaving the racing before the final finish. If you do not already have your sail numbered and wish to participate in the sailing races this summer, please stop by the Sailing Office located at Club Beach to be assigned an available number and obtain the actual num-bers for your sail. While you’re there, please do not hesitate to ask the Sailing Staff for pointers on how to properly affix the sailing numbers to your sail if you do not have experience in doing so. The Sailing Office is open weekends May 29th through June 20th from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM and then seven days a week beginning June 26th. The Members who volunteer for Race Committee appreciate your cooperation.

2010 Sailing StaffOnly one of the 2009 Sailing In-

structors will not be joining us in 2010. Mike Mylan is taking an in-ternship this summer and vacating the Head Sailing Instructor Position. Jordan Scheremeta and Chris Grasso are stepping up to take on the respon-sibility in a co-directorship. Jordan and Chris have worked together in the program for the past five years and are both very excited about this partner-ship. Their commitment to sailing goes even further back as they both were ju-nior sailors themselves. They will be joined by 6th year instructor Toni Simo-nik, TJ McCann and Andrew Rohan. 2009 Junior Instructors Joe Bigelow and Tim Osman will also be on staff. They are all looking forward to joining you on the water very soon.

RC Laser Fleet Starts Scoring Summer Races

The Lake Naomi Club Sailing Association’s newest fleet: RC La-ser Fleet #9 began sailing on Lake Naomi last summer. The RC La-sers are patterned after the original Laser: Simple, easy to sail and fast! The wind powered radio controlled hull is a quarter scale model of the original. It uses a two lever remote control to operate the main sheet and tiller. This boat comes right out of the bag and onto the water. 2009 Sailing was mainly practice sail-ing and racing, but without scoring for awards. Over the winter sailing continued on the water of the indoor pool both for practice and for scored races and even regattas. With sum-mer coming the RC fleet has listed all their sail dates in the summer calendar. Practice sailing will con-tinue and race days to be scored for a series have also been included. The Sailing Schedule on page 17 of the back section of the Summer Calen-dar now includes the RC Laser races along with all the other fleets. As al-ways your fellow sailors invite you to come join those who already have their boat and try it out yourself. There is usually a boat available to try your hand at. For more informa-tion contact Fleet Captain Bob Mac-Neill at 570, 646-8078.

Attention Boat and Canoe Rack Users!! Each year the Administrative Office hears from Members concerning boat

and canoe/kayak racks that sit empty all season long at locations they have been told are full. If you have secured a boat or canoe/kayak rack for the 2010 season and find that you won’t be using it, please contact the Adminis-trative Office to obtain a refund and make your rack available to another Member. We have Members waiting for racks at many of our beaches and marinas, so please be a good neighbor and relinquish your rack if you know you will not be using it.

Men’s Twilight Tennis PlayThe Friday night Men’s Twilight Round Robin remains on the Summer

Calendar for 2010 and will again begin at 5:30 PM in order to accommo-date male Members coming to LN-TT for the weekend. We will reserve courts from 5:30-7:00 PM for this play, but you must call in advance to register. If you don’t know if you can make it until the day of play, that’s fine, just give us a call. We are hoping we can accommodate more sched-ules by allowing late registration the day of play.

Lake Naomi - Timber Trails Breast Cancer RallyWe are just weeks away from our Summer Season and a few short months away

from our Rally on Thursday, July 22nd. Yeah to both!! This year, our fundraiser has a very exciting...once-in-a-lifetime (maybe) Grand Raffle. Thanks to Bob Bossuyt,

we were able to get a prize of ONE WEEK at a house on Sanibel Island. The lucky winner can choose September, October, or November (no holidays). This is not just an overnight or weekend...imagine...7 days!!!

Also, a reminder, we are looking for people as well as advertisers to sponsor holes and courts. In addition, we are always in need of helpers...people to solicit or “beg” as we fondly call it, and others to simply help in the operation area.

Thanking you in advance for thinking of us. We want to help those women who are fighting the ravages of Breast Cancer. Your participation will be greatly appreciated...and here’s to making 2010 our best year ever!

Please contact us at your earliest convenience. We will be in Pocono Pines soon and will be holding our first organizational meeting on Tuesday, May 18th at the Community Center at 1:00 PM.

Looking forward to a great event again,Marjorie Seger ([email protected]), Eileen Chimerine ([email protected]), Holly Lehrer ([email protected])

any and all types of fireworks have been banned from the Lake Naomi-Timber Trails Community. Please be aware that the possession of most fireworks in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania is illegal and violators are subject to stiff penalties. Boating ClarificationWhen Developer Logan Steele purchased the 3,000 acre property in 1963 and created

the Club, he was careful to determine what he wanted the “culture” of the Club to be. He felt it was very important that the lakes be preserved in their pristine condition and re-served exclusively for sailboats, traditional fishing boats and canoes. Over the past 47 years the Members have endorsed this culture for the Club. As a result, pontoon and platform boats are not permitted on Lake Naomi-Timber Trails waters. Because sound carries so far over the water, the Club would also appreciate it if no radios were played on the water. Mem-bers are urged to continue to assist the Club in preserving the culture that has led to the tremendous success experienced by Lake Naomi-Timber Trails.

Over 150 Members participated in the April 3rd Fish Stocking.

Lake Naomi Club Q & AWhere does the litigation stand on the floor in the Multi-purpose room at the Community Center?

As reported last Summer, the Club filed a Writ of Summons in May of 2009 in order to protect the statute of limitations on this matter. The Board of Trustees have continued to negoti-ate a resolution to this matter since the Writ of Summons was filed. The four parties the Club is pressing to replace the damaged floor are the General Contractor, the Flooring Contractor, the Flooring Manufacturer and the Sealant Manufac-turer. While the parties have indicated a desire to resolve this matter, to date an actual agreement has not been reached. Due to the lack of action on the part of the defendants in this case, the Trustees have directed the Club’s Attorney to prepare and file the formal complaint. The Club continues to be cautiously optimistic that a settlement can be reached.

Why does the floor need to be replaced, it seems to be fine at this point in time?

After discovering the problem, the Club took remedial action in order to assure the floor could be safely used. However there is still moisture trapped between the Mondo flooring and the con-crete base and the specialized sealant has failed. If the floor isn’t replaced, these two defects will greatly reduce the life expectancy of the floor. In order to protect Club Member financial resources, the Club must insist on the floor being replaced.

What is the latest with the Stillwater Dam Replace-ment and the conservation easement for the Boy Scout Property?

Funding is in place for the replacement of the dam on Stillwater Lake, located just upstream from their border with Lake Naomi. The project is expected to go to bid by early Summer and begin later this year. The conservation easement project is on hold waiting for funding. The Club has been assured that the conservation easement on the 800 acres of open space land owned by the Minsi Trails Boy Scout Council will ultimately become a reality.

My neighbor is not a Member of the Club. Can I take my neighbor to the Clubhouse for dinner as my guest?

No, Club Guidelines are very clear on this matter. Lake Naomi – Timber Trails Property Owners who choose not to join the Club are not permitted to be guests at any Club Facility or Program.

Profoundly GratefulEarly on a recent Sunday morning, Mike and I

were working out in the exercise room in the Community Center. I had just finished the treadmill portion of the workout and was preparing to move on in my routine, when suddenly I felt dizzy and fainted. The next thing I knew I was lying on the floor and had become the center of attention. The Rangers appeared very quickly and called 911. They stayed with me until the ambulance arrived. Later in the day, they called the emergency room to check on my progress. I was finally released at 7 PM. The Rangers also had the staff call the next day to ask if I needed anything.

Aside from their professionalism in doing their jobs, the Rangers showed great care and compassion. It really gave us a sense of what this Community is all about. We had not fully appreciated this before. The experience certainly confirmed our confidence and respect for the Rang-ers and the Club’s Team Members. We wouldn’t live anywhere else.

We are profoundly grateful to all those who where there for us when we needed them. JoAnne and Mike Maher

organization recently completed a model submarine which took five years to build with the assistance of a former Master yacht builder. The group shows the submarine in various parades including the Pocono Pines Memorial Day Parade being held on Monday, May 31, 2010. At 12:15 PM, immediately following the parade the USSVI BARB will be christened, launched and will make her maiden voyage, via Safety Boat, along the bank of Lake Naomi from West Beach to the Administrative Office docks and back.

Ranger CertificationsRecently all full-time Patrol Rangers completed an American

Red Cross 80 hour First Responder Course which is a three year certifica-tion. The Rangers were also recertified in American Red Cross Profes-sional CPR/AED with a two year certification. At a minimum, all Rangers are First Responder Certified with several being certified as Emergency Medical Technicians (EMT’s). Three part-time Patrol Rangers are also employed by Pocono Mountain Regional EMS as EMT’s. The Club is proud to have such trained professionals on the Ranger Team.

Boating Safety Reminders The Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission frequently patrols Lake

Naomi as well as the other lakes and ponds in Lake Naomi – Timber Trails and is authorized to enforce state boating regulations. They are also able to levy fines for violations of Pennsylvania Boating Regulations. A few suggestions for Lake Naomi Club boaters to ensure compliance with the state regulations are as follows:

1. Be sure that your watercraft contains at least one wearable floatation de-vice for each person on board. (Seat cushions are not considered wearable)

2. Each boat must have a mechanical device to be used as a sound signal such as a whistle or horn.

3. All rowboats and fishing boats must have a “Ca-pacity Plate” displayed. The capacity plate must list the number of people plus weight and hull I.D. num-ber. No boat is permitted to be loaded beyond its safe carrying capacity.

4. Boats with electric motors must be registered with the state.
