The Avanti brand was first established in 1985. It was born from a passion to deliver a range of bikes that had strong performance and a real sense of style. Riders at all levels told us they wanted bikes that went fast, were built to last and represented the best value in the market. So that’s exactly what we set out to provide. Within a few short years of launching, Avanti was established as the biggest selling brand in the New Zealand market. On the strength of that success we embarked into the Australian market in 1991 and have had the privilege of having thousands of Kiwis and Australians riding our bikes ever since.
From day one our bikes have been designed down-under specifically for local conditions. We are proud that they still are to this day. We currently sponsor over 30 elite athletes competing on the world stage. In the past year there have been some outstanding performances from this incredible group of athletes including Olympic medals, World Championships, multiple World Cup wins and National Championships.
And when they’re not competing at the top end of their chosen discipline we take advantage of their specialist expertise through testing and feedback to help us improve the bikes you ride. This year’s range is no exception with a number of specific enhancements coming from pro rider input.
Underlying our entire design philosophy is a real desire to simply get more people out enjoying cycling, reaching their personal goals and achieving at whatever level they aspire to. Our large range caters for all levels and all styles of rider so whatever your riding aspiration there’s an Avanti bike that will get you where you want to go. Avanti is Italian for ‘moving ahead ‘or ‘going forward’. This has been a compelling vision for the brand and has underpinned its evolution and growth over the past 25 years. It will continue to do so for the next 25 and beyond.

WhaT IS WISe?Creating the right riding experience for women isn’t easy. But that’s what we’ve set out to do with WISE. We wanted to really understand what women wanted, what they liked and what they disliked when it came to cycling. We also wanted to get the inside information that would enable us to develop bikes that would quite simply be better for women to ride. And so we went out and talked to riders. Specifically, female riders.
WoMen (of course!)We’ve empowered a group of women who ride different kinds of bikes in different ways to advise us on how we can create a better riding experience for all women. They are the Avanti WISE women. They’re working together with Avanti to improve the cycling experience for all women. They include mums, mountain bikers, road cyclists, triathletes and elite athletes. None of them get paid for the advice they provide. They do it because they genuinely want to be a part of improving cycling for women. And they want to benefit from it too!
InSIGhTSThrough focus groups, discussion, demonstration, experimentation and evaluation our group of WISE women have given us numerous insights and inspired us to deliver bikes that provide a superior ride for women. This means high levels of efficiency and comfort – and a real sense of style! They also inspired us to create the WISE brand – an easy way for you to identify a bike that’s right for you.
SCIenCeThis is where the knowledge is applied and the technology kicks in. Our bike designers and engineers have taken the insights and ideas, then blended them with their own know-how and intuition and refined them through our unique Avanti Design Technology process. And the output of all that blending, thinking and designing is frames with specific geometry for women. This means they fit women’s bodies just like they should. The frames have been matched with the right components to suit a specific style of riding and cater for some of those specific female differences such as shoulder width, hand size and so on. Our design studio then developed and applied graphics and colours that appeal more to women. How do we know this? We checked of course.

WHAT IS WISE?QueSTaWe’ve learnt a thing or two about high performance road bikes but we knew we had to start afresh with a completely new design when we wanted to develop a performance carbon road bike specifically for women. So we combined our years of knowledge from the development and performance of Quantum with the insights we garnered from the WISE women’s group, to create the all new Questa. If you’re an ambitious or elite road rider who values speed, responsiveness and style it’s a hard bike to go past. This high performance road machine will enable you to push yourself beyond your boundaries while retaining complete control. Described by world champion Alison Shanks as “the best all round bike I have ridden” you’ll soon see it featuring on the world circuit.

That’s why we developed the all new Vitale range in consultation with our WISE women’s group. arIaWith the Aria WISE helped us develop a quick and nimble flatbar road bike with a comfortable flat handlebar that specifically fits the size and shape of women’s bodies creating a more enjoyable riding experience. Aria combines women’s specific road bike performance with a confident, upright position. So when you’re out enjoying a ride with your friends you’ll get good visibility and comfort while keeping your riding efficiency at a high level and clipping along at a good speed.
ForTeWe made the most of our expertise in hard-tail cross country bikes when we created Forte. That’s why we‘re determined to innovate and extend ourselves every year. And we do that by continually evolving the development of our bikes through our rider focused philosophy called Avanti Design Technology (ADT). It’s our unique design and development approach that enables us to bring you the benefits of high performance cycling technology, whether its lightness, stiffness, strength or fatigue reduction. We combine years of development experience from designers, engineers, carbon technicians, bike shops and elite riders to bring you the best possible riding experience on any terrain – track, trail or tarseal.
The ADT advancement marches on with exciting developments across our 2010 range. Using specific leading edge technologies we’ve taken our frame creation to a new level especially in performance road and cross country race. We’ve adopted new technologies like EPS (Ethyl Poly Styrene) manufacturing for our carbon road frames to make them lighter and stronger so you can accelerate faster and push harder.
We’ve developed more robust carbon frames using HTR (High Toughness Resin) to make them more durable with an even longer life enabling you to ride more aggressively. We’ve optimised our frame structures enabling lighter frames while retaining strength through FEA (Finite Element Analysis) to ensure efficient power transfer, nimble handling and the ability to withstand even more demanding riding.
We reinforced our strength in hardtail cross country mountain biking by completely reviewing our mountain bike proposition. You’ll now see an all new platform that includes custom tubing that’s stiffer and lighter shaving more than 400 grams on average off the bikes weight and shaving time off your ride.
You’ll also see the benefits of ADT in our all new Avanti women’s range. The new range is spearheaded by the light, quick, all-carbon Questa Team road bike being ridden by world beating athletes Alison Shanks and Sam Warriner. Questa integrates technology and valuable lessons learned from our years of development of the road race and endurance platforms for Quantum and Cadent. We balanced that knowledge with input from our WISE women’s group, incorporating elite athletes, to ensure we created a women’s specific bike with exceptional performance, striking looks and the right feel.
There’s no doubt the focus of ADT is about improving high performance capability because when you want to win you need every edge. But what we learn in the wind tunnel about aerodynamic development, on the design floor about frame geometry or through pro rider evaluation about “the way it rides” also flows throughout the entire Avanti range influencing materials, frame geometry and importantly, component selection and integration.

ADT is most dramatically demonstrated through specific features of the Avanti Chrono Team frame development. For example we employ a precise lay-up of high modulus carbon material for optimum speed and handling characteristics. We have also led the world by integrating Oval Jetstream technology reducing aerodynamic drag.

The Cadent’s longer wheel base and taller head tube will keep you more comfortable on lengthier road rides yet remains quick and nimble for any attack, hill or sprint finish. Because of its more forgiving geometry there is lower physical stress but no compromise on your performance.
It was designed from the ground up with the vision to be more ergonomic and fast as anything. After specifically selecting a Cadent Team to win the New Zealand national road championship on, Gordon McCauley hailed it as “The perfect race bike - especially if you’ve had lower back issues on more aggressive geometry bikes but you still want awesome performance”.
