Welcome to the 2010 ActewAGL Canberra Regional Wine Show. The Royal National Capital Agricultural Society (RNCAS) is proud to present the Show and thanks all sponsors and exhibitors for their ongoing support. A number of changes have been made to classes for the 2010 Show to provide exhibitors an opportunity to present a wide range of quality regional wines for judging. The Show is once again a qualifying show for the National Wine Show of Australia. Information on the entry requirements for the National Wine Show is available on the RNCAS website at www.rncas.org.au A new trophy has been introduced to acknowledge the valuable contribution Dr Edgar Riek has made to the wine industry, particularly the Canberra District. This trophy will be presented to the Best Canberra District Shiraz judged in the open classes. Included in the Schedule are the regulations for the Show. Please take the time to read the regulations to ensure your exhibits meet the entry criteria and qualify for judging. Exhibits not complying with the regulations may be disqualified. On-line entry is available at www.rncas.org.au. Entries can also be submitted on the enclosed form. Entries must be received no later than Friday 16 July 2010. Exhibits must be received no later than Friday 20 August 2010. Judging will take place on Thursday 16 and Friday 17 September 2010. Exhibitors are invited to the presentation of trophies in the Terrace Restaurant at Exhibition Park from 6.00pm to 8.00pm on Friday 17 September 2010. Trophies will be presented by the ACT Chief Minister, Mr Jon Stanhope MLA. Admittance to the presentation of trophies is by ticket only. Tickets will be mailed to exhibitors prior to the presentation. You should therefore contact the RNCAS to confirm your attendance no later than Friday 27 August 2010. The RNCAS will invite sponsors and representatives of the wine, restaurant, liquor retail and media industries to the presentation. A catalogue of results will be available at the presentation and on the RNCAS website.

A public tasting will be held on Saturday 18 September 2010 at the Terrace Restaurant, Exhibition Park in Canberra from 12pm to 3pm.

REGULATIONS 1. Adherence to Regulations 1.1 All exhibitors must abide by the Regulations of the ActewAGL Canberra Regional Wine Show. 2. Entry Criteria 2.1 All exhibits must be the product of a minimum 85% of fruit grown in the Southern Zone or the

Shoalhaven Coast or Southern Highlands Regions of the South Coast Zone of New South Wales as defined by the GIC of the Australian Wine and Brandy Corporation.

2.2 The same exhibit must not be entered by more than one exhibitor. 2.3 An exhibit must not be entered in more than one class. 2.4 An exhibitor may enter more than one wine in any class. 2.5 Wines must be finished and bottled at the time of entry. Exhibits must be submitted from the

minimum required volume of bottled stock for each class at the time of entry. 2.6 All exhibits must conform to the respective Acts of the Commonwealth, State or Territory which

govern the production of Australian wine and the place where the exhibit was made. 2.7 All exhibits become the property of the RNCAS on receipt. 2.8 The exhibitor acknowledges that the RNCAS does not have a duty to conduct this show and

that if the RNCAS cancels the show either partly or fully for any reason, the exhibitor may not recover any lost income or damages from the RNCAS.

3. Entry Forms 3.1 All entries are to be submitted on line or on the form supplied by the RNCAS and must include: (a) the number of the class entered

(b) if submitting more than one exhibit in a class, the distinguishing exhibit number (1, 2 etc.) for each exhibit

(c) the year of vintage (d) the variety or blend (e) the district of origin (eg Canberra, Hilltops) (f) the volume of bottled stock held (g) the commercial name of the wine (h) the exhibitor's name (i) the physical address and contact details of the winery or vineyard producing the exhibit

3.2 On-line entries are available at www.rncas.org.au 3.3 Entries must be received by the RNCAS by Friday 16 July 2010. 3.4 Postal entries should be sent to:

4. Delivery of Entries and Exhibits 4.1 All exhibits must be securely packed to minimise breakage. Replacement exhibits may be requested if there are insufficient bottles for judging as a result of breakages. 4.2 Freight fees must be prepaid and are the responsibility of the exhibitor. 4.3 Exhibits must be delivered during office hours (8.30am to 4.30pm) by Friday 20 August 2010 to:

5. Entry Fees 5.1 The fee is $27.50 (inclusive of GST) per exhibit for entries received by the closing date and must be paid at the time of entry. 5.2 An entry will not be accepted unless accompanied by the relevant fee. 5.3 Late entries will only be accepted with the approval of the Wine Show Committee. 5.4 An additional fee of $10.00 per exhibit applies to entries received after the closing date

and must be paid at the time of entry. 6. Bottles 6.1 The RNCAS will supply labels which exhibitors must affix to each exhibit. 6.2 Each exhibit should bear the commercial label under which the exhibit is marketed. 6.3 Capsules must be removed from exhibits. 6.4 The number of bottles that must be submitted for each exhibit is:

(a) classes 1 - 19 6 x 750 ml bottles (or equivalent volume) (b) classes 20 - 23 3 x 750 ml bottles (or equivalent volume)

6.5 Additional bottles of trophy and medal winning wines may be requested to ensure adequate quantities of these wines are available for the presentation of trophies and exhibitors’ and public tastings. 7. Judging 7.1 Exhibits will be screened at all times from the judges. 7.2 Judging will be carried out by a panel of three judges who will assess all exhibits

independently. Exhibits will be scored by each judge out of 20 points according to the following criteria:

colour and condition 3 points bouquet 7 points palate 10 points

The Chairman of Judges will tally each judge’s score and allocate a final score out of a total of 60 points for each exhibit.

7.3 Medals will be awarded on the following scale of points: gold award 55.5 points and over silver award 51.0 to 55.0 points

bronze award 46.5 to 50.5 points 7.3 If more than one gold medal is awarded in any class, the judges will determine the top gold

exhibit in that class. 7.4 Points allocated to all exhibits awarded a gold, silver or bronze medal will be published in the catalogue of results. 7.5 A copy of the judging results and scores will be provided to exhibitors. 8. Trophies 8.1 Only top gold (if more than one exhibit awarded a gold medal in a class) and gold award Winning exhibits will be eligible for trophies. 8.2 A trophy will be awarded for the Most Successful Exhibitor of the Show. Points will be allocated

as follows: gold medal (5), silver medal (3) and bronze medal (1). An exhibitor must enter a minimum of three classes to be eligible for the trophy. The exhibitor gaining the highest number of points will be awarded the trophy.



9. Stock Validation and Test Samples 9.1 After the closing date for entries, a draw will be made of a minimum of three exhibitors whose

entries will be checked to determine that at the time of entry, the entries complied with all information stated on the application for entry including the volume of stock held.

9.3 A representative or nominee of the RNCAS will undertake an inspection of the exhibitor’s stock, and if required, stock records, prior to the commencement of judging.

9.4 At least one sample bottle for each wine listed on the application for entry will be taken for comparison by the judges.

10. Disqualification 10.1 Any exhibitor breaking any regulation of the Show may be disqualified from entry to this and

future shows and no entry will be accepted from any person while disqualified. 10.2 An exhibit and the exhibitor may be disqualified if:

(a) the test sample wine does not conform with the exhibit (b) the exhibitor is found not to have held the minimum volume of bottled stock at the time of entry

10.3 A wine entered more than once by one or more exhibitors will be disqualified. 11. Protests 11.1 No protests will be accepted or correspondence entered into concerning the results. 12. Advertising of Awards 12.1 An exhibitor must not advertise or allow to be advertised by any means whatsoever the fact

that any exhibit has won an award unless such advertisement clearly shows: (a) the full and correct name of the Show

(b) the year and type of award (i.e. trophy by name, gold, silver or bronze award) (c) the class number

(d) the commercial name of the wine and, if applicable, its vintage year. 12.2 Camera ready copy of the logo format is available free of charge to award winners from the

RNCAS.
