PMMI has partnered with the Mid-Atlantic Mechatronics Advisory Council, industry experts and several

packaging and technical schools to develop a series of Certificate Programs focused on Mechatronics.

The Certificates cover the four key areas identified as relevant to Mechatronics: mechanical, electrical,

controls, computer science.

While PMMI U will conduct the skills assessment through testing, our partner schools will provide the

education students need to master the skills. This unique industry partnership will allow packaging

professionals to earn a nationally recognized Certificate, in your local community in a format that works

best for your organization.

PMMI’s Proposed Suite of Certificates in Packaging-Oriented Mechatronics The following chart gives the general arrangement of the suite of 24 certificates proposed by PMMI and developed in

partnership with the Mid-Atlantic Mechatronics Partnership (MAMAP), PMMI member companies and several 2- and

4-year technical colleges around the country. Depending on particular job requirements, end users and packaging

machinery manufacturers can select the certificates that apply in their specific environments.

U.S. Department of Labor Recognizes Importance of Mechatronics

The U.S. Department of Labor acknowledged the importance of mechatronics to the packaging industry and to

the U.S. economy by publishing a hybrid-industry, packaging-oriented competency model. This model may be

used by industry, government and education to provide guidance on the skills necessary to practice as a multi-

skilled technician in a world-class packaging facility. The competencies identified align

with the PMMI skill standards. PMMI worked closely with the Mid-Atlantic Mechatronics

Advisory Council, the Industrial Maintenance Training Center of Pennsylvania, the

Lancaster County Center of Excellence in Packaging Operations and a consortium of

schools involved in packaging and/or mechatronics education

to create this model. To access this competency model, go to www.careeronestop.org.
