The accordion knows no boundaries - it is a unique symbol
of musical and cultural diversity.
For us - the builders of bellows - driven instruments at
Hohner Musikinstrumente GmbH & Co. KG - this diversity is
an ever present incentive to work with the highest degree of
precision. The entire body of knowledge of our long tradition
flows into every single instrument. From the selection of
the woods used to the fine working of the steel reeds,
from polishing the casing to the precise adjustment of the
complex bass and treble mechanisms with their irresistably
logical construction. With all the love of the accordion and
dedication to excellence which has always distinguished
hand made instruments built by Hohner.
Hohner Accordions bring out the champion in you!
Six time winner of Coupe Mondial,
Trophy Mondial, International
Accordion Competition in
Klingenthal, and others, Julian
“Speedy” Gonzales plays the
Genius IV 120 Bayan model
for classical music and the Fun Flash and Fun Musette
accordion for virtuoso entertainment music.

At Hohner, traditional handwork
in accordion building goes
hand in hand with research and
development and the use of the
most modern production and
analysis procedures. The results
are production methods that are especially gentle on the
materials used, that come together to create an accordion
that will meet the highest professional requirements and
guarantee the lasting value for which Hohner instruments
are renowned.
Examples of this are the pallets pictured above, which are
adjusted to within a fraction of a millimeter, and the one
piece clavis levers.
These are central elements of
the newly developed piano
keyboard, which offers a new
dimension of playing comfort.
Assembling the bass mechanism
is time consuming and expensive. During this process,
the majority of the individual parts of the accordion
are put together to create a true technical wonder. The
bass mechanism is created by fitting together a complex
assembly of bass pivot rods, pivot rod levers, clavis levers
and bass pallets, button levers and finger levers. The design
reflects the latest findings of research and development
and sets new standards in lightness of weight and noiseless
operation.
It is a particularly satisfying moment for us when an accordion
is finished, its thousands of individual components expertly
assembled and the final quality control indicates that this
instrument will give its future owner a lifetime of pleasure.
Our team for your instrument - HOHNER
We would like to take you on a
brief tour of our accordion man-
ufacturing facilities. In the follow-
ing pages we have captured the
most important steps of the pro-
duction in words and pictures.
In Trossingen, highly motivated craftsmen build accordions
which will later bear the names Gola, Morino or Ventura for
players around the world.
Every Hohner accordion is the result of over 100 years of
experience in the design, construction and manufacture
of high quality bellows-driven instruments. Painstaking
craftsmanship and the selection of the finest materi-
als guarantee a consistently high standard of production
which truly deserves the designation “Top quality made in
Germany”. The combination of skilled workmanship and
modern technology is known worldwide as the distinguishing
feature of Hohner’s high-end instruments.
Accordion production without
skilled handiwork is unthink-
able. Despite modern automa-
tion technology, a high quality
accordion will always remain a
musical instrument that owes its
soul to the precision and expertise put into its construc-
tion. Especially when putting the final touches to the reeds
and reed plates, experienced craftmanship coupled with a
feeling for music is the secret of the legendary Hohner sound.
Each individual reed plate is then waxed onto the channels
of the reed block. Swabian precision is utilized at every
stage of the production process to ensure that all parts will
later fit together perfectly and the instrument will thus be
completely airtight.
The tuner then fine tunes every
single reed. His most important
tool is his highly trained ear.
Armed with file and blade, he
ensures that each reed reaches
its correct pitch. He knows from
experience how to coordinate the intervals between the
individual steps in the tuning process in order to achieve
the highest degree of tuning reliability.
For over 100 years, the Hohner company in Trossingen has been buildingrenowned bellows-driven instruments which are played all over the world. Our book “History Unfolds” describes the ups and downsof the history of the accordion in Trossingen, its heyday in the1920s and 30s, the emergence of the orchestra movementand the technical developments during the entire period. What is so special about this book however, is the extensive and attractively presented photo section, with numerous previouslyunpublished photos of accordions from the past centuryof Hohner history, as well as a complete listing of the Hohner production.

Gola 454 C
GOLA is when playing the accordion becomes a passion,
when nothing else counts but the realization of musical
potential, inspired by the combination of the sound of a truly
great instrument and one’s own powers of imagination.
The Gola represents the premium level of accordion
building worldwide and is the instrument of choice for
soloists of the highest level of ability (including numerous
World Champions), whether on stage or in the recording
studio. The combination of top quality materials and
workmanship of the finest degree of precision results in
superlative instruments for the most discerning players.
The quality of these remarkable accordions is apparent
from the moment of ordering one. A Gola is not found lying
around in a music store; it is constructed solely according to
the wishes and requirements of the customer. In this way,
Giovanni Gola’s vision is still realized virtually unchanged
today at the Hohner works in Trossingen. Every single Gola
ordered around the world is built by a small team of master
craftsmen who work exclusively on this instrument.

Genius accordions bring a new dimension to the pro-
fessional level instruments played by virtuosos in the
Champions-League. Over 100 years of accordion making,
input from technical and artistic professionals worldwide,
and modern ingenuity have been combined to produce
state of the art button-converter-accordions. In addition,
superior quality reed plates result in exceptional treble
and bass tone projection. Players will love this lighter
weight accordion that does not compromise on sound and
dynamic excellence.
Based on Computer Aided Design, the newly
developed treble keyboard includes 64 tones.
Both B-System and C-System are available.
Innovation
All treble registers can be activated by chin switches and also
an additional repeat switch. Ingenious switch mechanics
allow for two tonal colors for each button. The strong
design of this mechanism even forgives the accidental
activation of more than one switch simultaneously.
Based on research and input from professional players, the
chin switches have been positioned for optimal comfort
and minimal neck strain.

Morino IV 120 C45 de Luxe
We use an extremely thin gauze for the Morino converter instruments,
which lends the grill an elegant aspect, while being highly permeable to the sound
and giving the entire range of musical expression a clear way out.
When it comes to instruments meeting the highest
performance requirements, we depend on a simple
philosophy: the accordion must adapt to the player, not the
other way around!
Therefore, you can choose between 41 or 45 treble keys,
2 or 3 free bass voices, or even choose from a variety of
reedplate designs, up to the noble “De Luxe” plates, which
are individually egalized by hand in upper tone range, to
achieve the highest standards in playability.
In Trossingen we customize your accordion to meet your
personal requirements!
All Morino covertor models benefit greatly from Hohner’s
collected know-how, gained over a long tradition in making
top quality Cassotto instruments.

The Genius standard bass version comes with the bass mechanism adopted from
the Morino series years before. It features easy touch and low noise.
Discerning button chromatic players requiring high
performance choose the Genius. The standard bass version
was modelled on the Genius Convertor, widely acclaimed
by professionals.
For the Genius de Luxe we use reed plates of the highest
quality which are painstakingly finished by hand in upper
tone range to ensure the best response possible performing
with extreme sensitivity and evenness throughout the
registers.
Optically the Genius de Luxe is distinguished by the noble
gold plated trim and of course the name plate “de Luxe”.
A professional instrument “Made in Germany” which
guarantees lasting value.

To meet the needs of accordionists who are only satisfied
with the best, we have developed the Morino de Luxe. This
is based on the tried and tested Morino, the design of which
was completely reworked and improved in many details in
2001. For the Morino de Luxe we use reed plates of the
highest level of quality which are painstakingly egalised by
hand in upper tone range to ensure a response which is
hard to match - both extremely sensitive and as even as
possible in all registers.
The bass has been perfectly set up for the soloist: an
acoustically optimized bass angle reed block produces
clearly defined bass notes with a powerful fundamental.
Optically the Morino de Luxe is distinguished by the noble
gold plated trim and of course the name plate “de Luxe”.
A top quality instrument “Made in Germany” which
guarantees lasting value.
Here you have a good view of the bass angle reed block. What makes this so special is the
fact that the bass reeds are positioned at a 90° angle to the chord reeds.
Due to the larger channels the heavy bass reeds are able to resonate more freely and
produce exceptionally clearly defined bass notes with a powerful fundamental tone.

The new register switches have been reworked from both the ergonomic and the optical point of view:
· Chorus combination indicators are angled towards the player
· Optically integrated into the treble grill
· Register switches ordered according to the results of the latest studies on playing requirements and current literature.
All shown instruments are also available as individual versions too.
Instruments in the Morino line have an excellent reputati-
on in the accordion world. An accordion orchestra without
a Morino? It’s simply not done. The characteristic sound
– especially the voices inside the Cassotto – give this
instrument a special touch and strengthen the ensemble
into one sound and voice.
In 1936 the constructing engineer Venanzio Morino
manufactured accordions of his own conception and
design. Often these instruments were custom built for a
single artist. Matth. Hohner AG supported and promoted
his ideas. Today, the Venanzio Morino legacy is still alive in
the accordions that bear his name.
Perhaps the most obvious sign of the Morino legacy is the
piano keyboard; frictionless and much more precise than
other keyboards. An unbelievable technical advancement!
With IV- or V - voices, it is always the unique sound that
appeals to your audience. The IV-voice models have a
comprehensive spectrum of 11 sound combinations.
However, if you prefer a robust three-voice tremolo, the
V-voice Morino is for you. The tutti-register profits from an
additional reed block.

The grill plays a considerable role in creating the sound.
The typical striking Morino grill has had a decisive influence on both
sound and appearance of this series for decades.
Morino accordions shine on stage. A special feature of
the Morino is the double tremolo, which also is known as
Musette Tuning. For the soloist, this appealing and thrilling
sound will boost your performance and stage presence.
The Tremolo models are also visually sensational. The look
of the instrument changes based on lighting and visual
perspective. The “cyan to purple” model phases from blue
to red. The “red to gold” model alternates between warm
reds and golds. On either model, the rhinestone Hohner
logo glitters under the spotlight, additionally charming
the audience. This models are also available in traditional
black.

and light action of the Morino, a key to record-breaking
performance.

“Lightweight accordion construction” can often be a contradiction in terms.
It can very easily have a negative effect on the sound, or lead
to unintentional side effects.
Through the use of modern manufacturing methods with individual components,
however, we have been able to achieve a considerable reduction
in weight with all Morino models.
For example, we are the only manufacturer worldwide where the clavis levers,
which connect the keys to the pallets, are punch formed out
of a single piece of lightweight aluminium alloy.
All shown instruments are also available as individual versions too.
Established folk accordion star
Slavko Avesenik sets the standard
for Oberkrainer style on his Hohner Morino
We had to think of something really special for the top
model of the series dedicated to Slavko Avsenik. Optically,
the design of the “Retro” is unmistakably based on the
Morino V M, the accordion which was Slavko Avsenik’s
constant onstage companion for decades. The register
switches in black and white and of course the logo set by
hand in semi-precious stones are particularly eye catching.
Inside, the V chorus Retro manages to combine the sound
ideal of the “V M” with the achievements of modern
technological developments in accordion building to create
an instrument which guarantees a high degree of playing
comfort and maximum reliability.

HOHNER ATLANTIC Reissue
For over 50 years, the Hohner Atlantic accordion has been
the preferred instrument of choice for orchestra, jazz,
classical, and all types of modern music. Hohner’s tradition
of quality instruments continues with the reissue of the
new Atlantic accordion made in Germany.
Engineers at Hohner used state of the art technology in
developing the new Atlantic accordion to achieve a warmer
and loud sound. A wooden housing was used and current
Hohner accordion technology like the T-Keyboard and the
modular Bass-Mechanism was also incorporated. Hohner
continues to stretch the envelope by finding new innovative
ways to develop quality accordions.”
The Atlantic model is available in the following:
Atlantic IV 120 LMMH
Atlantic IV 120 M (Musette) LMMM
Both versions are available with palm switch.
This feature is named with an additional letter „P“.
For those who have experienced firsthand the traditional Atlantic accordion,
the Palm Switch has been a very popular feature. With the gentle touch of your palm,
you can activate all of the voices without interrupting the flow of your playing.
The palm switch is now available with the new Atlantic reissue.

Electronium
In response to the needs of orchestral accordionists, we have
developed the Electronium 2000. The instrument is extremely light,
as much of the hardware has been incorporated into the expander,
which host an entire library of different sound choices. It includes
the already familiar Hohner Electronium features and numerous
additional options such as:
· single connection cable
· easy-to-read display with status indicator
· three registers which use left-hand operated pre-sets
· programmable memory presets
· easy to operate, while offering a wide variety
of sound choices
Basso
The newly updated Basso 372 was specially designed for orchestra
playing. Its light weight and compact size maximize playing versatility
and comfort. The sound-active- grille was designed for acoustic playing
and accents the lower range of tones preferred by Ensemble players.
The built-in microphone system is optimized for deep frequency
sounds with all types of amplifiers. Performance is best when using
special bass amplifiers, which are able to bring out the deep sound
of Helicon-Bass reeds.
In addition to modern
sounds for contemporary
compositions, it also contains many of the legendary sounds
which were part of the original Hohner Electronium. The
Electronium 2000 works with other expanders and is com-
patible with the General Midi standard, which allows easy
addition of sounds. The Electronium 2000 is available also
as a single unit, without ElecInside.
A good accordion case is indispensable for safe transport
and secure storage. It protects the accordion from dust,
dampness and external damage. For this reason, we always
deliver our accordions with high quality cases.
The new Hohner hard shell cases incorporate a detachable
trolley, making it possible to conveniently roll the instrument
on castors.
The strap system “Ergoline” (including back straps) is a
tried and tested Hohner accessory for all Genius, Morino
und Atlantic instruments. It offers maximum variability and
simple handling, is comfortable to wear and extremely
durable. This system combines the advantages of both
textile straps and high quality leather straps.
The GENIUS transport-protection-pad perfectly protects
the grill and the keyboard for Genius models. The pad pro-
ves ideal for transporting professional level instruments in
gig bags.

I love the new Hohner Genius converter-button accordion (Bayan)! The advanced mechanics allow me to forget about technical failure during per-forming. I am especially impressed with the new system of chin switches – all 15 registers on the right-hand side are available! The tone colours can be pre-selected according to the music I want to perform. With this development, performing beco-mes much more flexible and the switching is much easier. The precise mechanism and attention to de-
tail during the manufacturing process allows for a rich and unique sound. All musical styles can be expressed with this outstanding instrument.(Prof. Viktor Romanko)
As product manager for Hohner France, I have a keen understanding of what the players needs are when it comes to the musical side of the accordi-on (materials used, tuning, cassotto, etc.) and the technial side as well (weight, keyboard adjustment, ergonomics, etc). Having a close relation with artists in both the educational as well as professional level, gives me the opportunity to hone in on what the players needs when it comes to accordions. Studen-ts that I am working with take part in international
competitions: Jérôme Richard 6 time World Champion, Julien Gonzales 6 time World Champion, Fred Baldo 4 time World Champion, Phil Bouvier 2 time World Champion, Ben Nortier who is only 13 years of age and already a world champion in the history of the accordion. It is students like these that encourage me to further my research and development for new products. I thank Hohner for this incredible adventure and journey in the accordion world.(Frédéric Deschamps)
My acquaintance with Hohner accordions is quite re-cent. But during the short period I have had time to estimate advantages of these famous instruments. Morino Convertor with its rich and powerful sound, comprehensive technical abilities, and smart innova-tions is an excellent choice for any professional ac-cordionist. The Fun Flash will definately impress the audience, thanks to its colourful design and bright sound - it‘s a wonderful instrument for an entertain-ment music. I‘m happy to play Hohner!(Alexander Shirunov)
In terms of noble sound, synchronism and sensitive tone response (and also expressiveness), there is no better instrument in the world. Over the years it has grown on me -- from simple appreciation to heartfelt love.(Manfred Leuchter)
Playing the Hohner Morino accordion brings with it lots of pleasure and joy.(Slavko Avsenik)
I‘ve been playing Hohner Accordions for over 20 years with my band, the Hooters, and I‘ve become a very satisfied collector and player of these quality instruments. It all started with a „Junior“ model, a Starlet 48, which still plays very well, after hundreds of shows and thousands of miles, performing inter-nationally. The instruments stay in excellent tune, hold up to the rigors of the road, and also record beautifully. For me, Have Hohner, Will Travel!(Rob Hyman, Hooters)
Hohner accordion players in France and from all over the world who are young, dynamic, and on top of their game, really attracted me to this incredible line of accordions made by Hohner. It was during a performance of Frederic Deschamps that I disco-vered the Fun Flash accordion. The bellow pressu-re is extremely reliable, the key action is smooth, the sound is incomparable – especially the double Cassotto. The incredible modern look really fits the young generation. I’m very proud to belong to the
Hohner team that represents a new generation of players.(Julien Gonzales)
I decided to play Hohner because in France, it is the Hohner accordion to have. Besides having an incredible key action for playing complex melodies, the Hohner accordion is a cool looking like the Fun Flash. At the casting for “La Nouvelle Star” (French TV) the jury stated that the accordion is for elderly people only. After they saw me perform with the Hohner Fun Flash, they changed their minds and I went on the 2nd round of the show.” Thanks Hohner!(Benoît Nortier)
For my performances and tours with Heino, the Morino IV 120 is my first choice. The low weight, excellent response and warm, open sound greatly support my musical expression – not only in my touring with Heino, but also in my Tango and Jazz projects.(Heinz Hox, Heino Band)
The new mechanic/technique of the Morino V 120 Retro stands out. In addition to its other positive features, I especially enjoy the playing comfort.Martin Gogg, Oberkrainer Power
