     AUCTION & QUILT

    O N P R O U D W I N G S

Sandra Dufour had just purchased her Snowbirds quilt

ticket the day before the dinner, having been to the Snowbirds’signing ceremony with her son Evan, an avid aviation enthusiast. Then, at 11 pm onthe night of the dinner, Sandra gets a call from KenOxley, originator of the idea for a quilt raffle to celebratethe centennial, saying; “Congratulations, you’ve won!”

It was immediately clear, given Evan’s room be-ing plastered from corner to corner with aircraft postersand background to his computer Flight Simulator, justwho would now be getting the quilt! The very next day,it was duly collected and marched out of the museum byEvan, with much pride and pleasure.

This special issue of the Newsletter is to thank all the Volunteers and provide a sum-mary of the financials so everyone knows what a successful event we provided to celebrate theCentennial of Flight. I think we can all feel very proud of giving all those who bought tickets, a “once ina lifetime event” with enough memories to last a long time.

We also created a lot of goodwill for the Museum that has no measure. The bonus, of course, was all the money we raised, which will benefit the museum for years.

After two very successful events, i.e. the Hockey Game and, now, the Centennial Dinner, Ithink we have the confidence to tackle anything. Are you ready for the next one?

Enjoy the summer.  Mike Hendren, President CVAFMA

I want to again say thankyou and well done to you and yourteam for a wonderful evening.

You brought great credit tothe Wing, for which I have re-ceived many kudos (through no

fault of my own!). From young toold, locals or those who were visit-ing from afar, everyone sang thesame tune - they were all very im-pressed.

The fact is we have a greatlittle Museum, one that I am veryproud of, especially when I think ofthe many volunteers, like you, whodo so much with what little theCrown can spare. I fear to thinkwhat the cost of the Museumwould be if we put a price on thevolunteer hours!

Please forward this alongto all the folks who helped makethis event the success it was! I amindebted to you all!

    Cheers, Fred

The celebration of the Centennial ofFlight in Canada dinner will long be remem-bered by the many aviators, veterans andguests in attendance. The mix of attendeeswho made much of the history of flight andthose still flying made the evening magi-cal. The sharing of experiences and stories

was made all the more enjoyable by the su-perb planning and logistics of Capt John Low,Col (Retd) Jon Ambler and Mr Mike Spooner, carried out through the entire evening. All at-tendees spoke highly of the meal, which wasco-created by Mr Jeff Lindsay and PO1 RickMcAllister from 19Wg Food Svcs and theirteam of four MCpls.

I was fortunate to witness the daugh-ter-in-law of Mr Alex Sim win the bid for theWWII stamps, which included a D-Day stamp.

Alex had been part of D-Day and was very

moved. The tears of joy in his eyes and hissilence certainly were reflective of the wholeevening.

I tip my hat to the many volunteers, organizers, chefs and servers, and I am sureeach demo team will tip their wings in recogni-tion of an unforgettable evening!
