Rhonda Renee Mathis, 61, of Topeka, passed away Sunday, June 7, 2020. She was born No-vember 12, 1958, in Emporia, Kansas, the daughter of Kenneth and Jean (Claunch) Cripps. She graduated from Emporia High School. She was an avid volunteer and member with the Grantville United Methodist Church. She was a member of the Worship Planning Team. For a long time, she was a collector of antique cars. She was also a member of several car clubs throughout the area, including Golden Spokes, Ford Performance Club and CHVA. She had many roles at Saint Francis Hospital in Topeka, ranging from dietary, supply delivery to phar-macy technician, but her latest role was a Patient Sitter which she enjoyed thoroughly as she was there to help patients during difficult times. A Celebration of her Life will be at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 27, 2020 at Grantville United Methodist Church, 3724 South Street, Grantville, KS 66429. A private Graveside Service will be at Hillside Cemetery near Strong City, Kansas.

Unfortunately another month, and things are more locked down than when I was writing last month. Obviously given the additional re-strictions up to statewide mask requirements, I haven't planned on anything tour wise or meeting wise. To be honest I don't know when I see us being able to gather again, into late Fall at the earliest. I know some of the clubs have used Zoom or other digital platforms to hold meetings. I don't know what our overall club aptitude would be for something like that, but honestly we don't have any kind of club business at this point. Looking at the calendar from last month, I'm not planning on an August meeting and Hot Alma Nights has been cancelled for 2020. July 10th is Collector Car Appreciation Day so at least we can get the cars out ourselves and drive. I got my old truck out to actually be a truck this last weekend. The water pump went out on my big Dodge and I had no more than diagnosed why I smelled hot coolant than my son called and wanted me to pick up a coffee table he bought and then bring over my ladder so he could clean the gutters on the house he just bought. I started to tell him, sorry son, but then stopped and thought - hey I have another truck. Went out to the offsite garage, it fired right up and got to be a truck for the day. I know I've talked about doing a driving tour with a picnic lunch, and that would still be an option for something we could do as a group, I just haven't been motivated to do that when it's in the 90s. Perhaps when it cools down again some. I hope everyone is staying healthy dur-ing this time, and I miss not being able to gather and tour, but eventually this will pass. Until then it's a great time to get all of those garage projects caught up.

Malcolm Kelly is released and recouping at home. He has therapy at home three days a week. Please keep him in your thoughts and prayers.

Phase lll of the Covid release has allowed counties to make their own decisions on open policies. Till Dr. Fauci comes out and says we're good to go it still makes sense to follow the Covid guidelines of distance and wear a mask too. This may not be popular but at least it gets you out of house and home, safely.

Electronic Wonders

The Bel~Air has a radio that looks like yesterday but functions like to-day. The Impala has the same set up. They work just fine but they cancel out the functions of the compasses. Is there anything that can be done to fix these problems? Let me know your thoughts.

Flat Roofs Wednesday

Station wagons are called this name all over Facebook and the Internet by Sam Gomez and Frank Gehrhardt. I had never heard this term be-fore. With all of the SUV's there are a lot more flat roofs than sedans or coupes.

The Chevelle and the El Camino will reappear as well as the Firebird Trans Am. With gas prices low and style desired, we can't wait to see these new cars.

The main thing I got from the article is to use the oil recommended in the Owner’s Manual of the vehicle and to make sure the oil is com-patible with the engine. Person-ally, I have been using Shell Rotella(T) that has a greater volume of the zinc additive, ZDDP than regular oils. Buyer beware! rg
