“FOR THE RESIDENTS, BY THE RESIDENTS” Happy Mothers Day May 2009
To All Moms
A mother’s love is like a garden
Her children are the seeds
And as they grow, she tends to them,
Fulfilling all their needs.
Her kindness is like sunshine
That warms them as they flower.
Her nurturing like springtime rain
A soft and gentle flower.
A mother’s love is like a garden
Reflecting tender care,
For wherever there is beauty,
A mother’s love is there.
In Loving Memory, this Memorial Day
We set aside Memorial Day
Each and every year
To honor those who gave their lives
Defending what we hold dear.
In all the dark and deadly wars,
Their graves prove and remind us,
Our brave Americans gave their all
To put danger far behind us.
They made the ultimate sacrifice
Fighting for the American way;
We admire them and respect them
On every Memorial Day.
PLEASE DISPLAY YOUR FLAG ON THIS DAY TO
SHOW HOW PROUD WE ARE!!!!!!!!!

Communication Breakdown...
The reason the Army, Navy, Air Force, and Marines squabble among themselves is that
they don't speak the same language. For example, take a simple phrase like, "Secure the
building."
• The Army will put guards around the place.
• The Navy will turn out the lights and lock the doors.
• The Air Force will take out a 5-year lease with an option to buy.
• The Marines will kill everybody inside and make it a command post.

older. Then it dawned on me . . . they're cramming for their final exam."

POTLUCK
Join us each month for a carry-in dinner and with food of your choice. Just bring your favorite
dish to pass and share and enough for 8 to 10 people.
The Potluck is held on the 3rd Thursday of each month at 5:30pm each month of the year.
Include your own utensils and plates and drinks. The coffee will be perking and ready to drink
when you get there for those who like coffee.
We are always looking for a host/hostess to make the coffee and for clean up after and there is
always plenty of help for this. This is the easiest job out of all the activities and a good way to
get to know people.
Don’t feel you have to have a reserved seat and just sit with anyone where there is an empty seat.
Get to know your neighbors and fellow residents and you may find you have similar interests and
something you can chat about.
Any questions, contact any board member or the activities director, Aggie Mitchell.

from the Association President
Dear Friends and Neighbors,
Summer is fast approaching us…….many have already headed north to their “other” life…….and many of us are
enjoying a lot less traffic and being able to find parking spaces closer to the entrances to our favorite stores.
We have had many, many activities here in January, February, March and April. Aggie Mitchell and her committee
have been busy planning activities that you hopefully will enjoy during the summer months.
Wednesday’s by the pool has been a very big success due to Jim Morvatz. Because of the hot weather and bugs we
will have to wait until fall to enjoy the varied menus and surprises, Jim is planning.
Tony Trubiano has spent many hours patrolling our park and working with others to keep us safe.
Phyllis Grossi came to our assistance again…..the 2008 IRS 990 form was completed and sent on March 24th, 2009.
The audit committee, headed by Jim Barnett audited the first 2 months of 2009, due to the resignation of Richard
Brown.
The Bingo bookkeeping system was given an excellent report by the Audit committee and thanks to Marielle Quain
everyone is enjoying the new Bingo machine every Wednesday night. Come and have fun with your neighbors!!!!
If you have ideas for activities, would like to volunteer, you are always welcome to call me or email me:
Cell phone number is 207-730-0081
Have a Happy May, Dot Cady, President

Easter Dinner
Seventy-two people were welcomed to our Easter Dinner finding the hall decorated in pastel colors and
Easter baskets on each table.
As usual, the buffet table was loaded with large quantities of delicious family favorite foods.
Many thanks to John and Marielle Quain who hosted the dinner. The decorating committee also included
Anita Warschkow, Irene Schreier, Bella Kinney, Aggie Mitchell and myself.
After dinner, many hands made clean up quick and easy.
Thanks to all,
Dot Cady

From orm’s desk
I sincerely appreciate the close family of friends attitude of most of our residents. It is a pleasure to work
for and with you.
I also am glad to see the security patrol back in action with Tony Trubiano at the helm. Thanks, Tony!!!
If you are around the pool and have the market umbrella’s up, please put them down and tie them before
you leave as the wind blows them over easily. Thanks for your help!
I have had the carpet cleaned in the clubhouse, please be careful and clean up any spills as they occur.
Thanks, Norm

Sisters
This is dedicated to all the sisters here in the park. It is so nice to have family close by and for all of those
who don’t have family here may you feel the love and friendship of your friends. The rest of us feel like
we have sisters through out this community and hopefully it continues, especially during this month of May
and the rest of your lifetime.
From the time that we were little, I knew you’d always be, not just a loving sister, but a caring friend
to me.
A shoulder I could cry on, a helping hand in times of need, a cheerleader to lift me up, my angel in
both word and deed.
We told each other secrets, we giggled and we cried, we shared our joys and sorrows---we were
always side by side.
We have a very special bond, I knew it from the start. You’ll have my love forever--we’re sisters,
heart to heart.
I hope I have not forgotten any sisters but this is the list as we know it.

PLAY BALL! On Tuesday, evening March 26, a group of 34 Southfork residents traveled to Lakeland for an evening of major league baseball featuring the Tampa Bay Rays versus the Detroit Tigers.
Upon arriving at Joker Marchant Stadium the group was escorted to a paddock area adjacent to the ball field where a huge tent provided the venue for a tail gate party extraordinaire. Under the tent we feasted on ball park franks, baked beans, potato salad and all of the soft drinks that we could possibly put away.
When finished eating we found our way to our seats which were located right behind home plate. The temperature was a balmy 78 degrees and what a night for baseball! After the opening ceremonies and some player award presentations the 2008 American League Champion Tampa Bay Rays took the field against the Detroit Tigers.
The game ended with the Rays losing to the Tigers with a score of 6 to 3 but it was still a wonderful night of watching the great American game with a nice group of neighbors and friends. SUBMITTED BY: Jim Morvatz
ACTIVITIES
The Appreciation Recycle Cookout was it's usual success in both
attendance and a good time!! Rod Paul entertained with his vocals and
guitar, which topped off the party!! Many thanks to Marvin & Mary Jo Dye,

done!!

trophy winners!! First Place trophy winners were Larry Rujfner and Aggie
Mitchell, Second Place was won by 2ancy Jones and Jim Freund and third
place went to Bella Kinney and Smokey Stoever!! Congratulations to the
winners and thanks to all who helped to make this annual event another
success.
Saturday evening, April 4th, Tom Eldridge entertained eighty-one of us with
his fine music for our listening and dancing pleasure. Pizza arrived at
7:30 which was a special treat for all who attended. This was a great
evening out and was enjoyed by all. Many have requested that we invite
Tom back in the future and he is more than willing to return.

HOT DOG AD HAMBURGER FEST
The weekly Wednesday evening event by the pool will soon be coming to a close for the spring season. Our last cookout will be on April 29th. We are temporarily ceasing operations for several reasons, mainly the upcoming insect season, coupled with the increase in temperature which makes it very uncomfortable for members of our staff and our chefs to work outdoors.
My special thanks go out to the other members of the committee, those being Shirlynn Collier, Aggie Mitchell and Bob Downs. Also my sincere gratitude goes out to those who volunteered to be on the weekly teams which without whose help we would not have been able to conduct the activity.
As you know we tried to expand on the festivities by trying several new menu items during the fall, winter and spring season. Most of those items were well received and hopefully enjoyed by you as our guests for the evening.
We also ventured into a new area by trying to provide live entertainment for your listening pleasure. This endeavor was also well received and all of the entertainers have be retained to provide upcoming "gigs" for your entertainment in the future.
As you know, your Southfork Homeowners Association fronts the money for this activity and proceeds from the activity are plowed right back into the association's coffers for other events. Even though we decided to stick with last year’s menu prices we still managed to make a moderate profit from the sale of food and 50/50 tickets.
Finally, it has been my pleasure as a relative "newbie" to be involved in an activity which proved to be very demanding but still very rewarding in the area of meeting my neighbors and making new friends. Being a member of the Southfork Homeowners Association and having the opportunity to be involved here has truly reinforced my decision to live at one of central Florida's premier active 55+ communities.
Sincerely,
Jim Morvatz
Bridge
This is the official notice that the Southfork Bridge Group will cease playing after the April 1st gathering. I
want to thank all the ladies and gentlemen who have helped to make this year’s Wednesday afternoons so
enjoyable!!! We have had twelve players most of the time. Included in that group are several members
from the Blue Jay community. It is nice to know we have an ecumenical bridge group (or does that word
apply to churches only?)
We will resume playing on Wednesday, November 4th at 1:00pm. If you might be interested in joining with
us in the fall, just give me a call. Anita Warschkow has agreed to help me next year.
Thanks a bunch! Carol Barnett 567-7605

Bingo
As you probably know by now………………….Bingo starts at 6:30pm instead of 7pm. There were many
people who liked this idea so it was decided by a majority vote of the bingo players that we move the time
back. Many have some interesting programs that they like to watch on TV at 9pm and like the idea of
leaving earlier. This will be great in the fall when the time changes and it gets darker earlier.
So don’t fret, you still have time to enjoy the hamburgs and hotdogs by the pool before coming in to play
bingo because that stops at 6PM..
Just another note on outside players at our bingo. There was a rumor that bingo was open to our neighbors
at Blue Jay and that is incorrect. The only other people who can play bingo that do not live here in the park
are overnight guests. All overnight guests must be accompanied by a resident. The other rule that applies is
that no one under the age of 18 years can be in the bingo hall while bingo is being played. This is a state
rule that must be followed and there are no exceptions. Remember, bingo is considered gambling by the
state, not our rules.
We are limited to the amount of people who can play a week and also it would not be fair to the regulars
who play weekly if they came in and there was no seat for them to sit and play.
Please come and join us if you like the game and of course there is no guarantee that everyone wins,
although we wish that would happen!!!!
So please if there are any questions, please contact Marielle Quain.
PS Admission opens at 5:30pm weekly.
Classifieds
Starting in the next newsletter (June), I will be placing “FOR SALE” items in the newsletter. This will
cover any items you would like to advertise for sale but “NOT HOMES” and something you might have
placed on the clubhouse bulletin board to sale.
I will also have a section “AVAILABLE TO SHARE” AND THAT COVERS, walkers, canes, adult toilet
riser, crutches, etc. This area can be used for someone who has a short temporary need for any of these
items and they can borrow and will return or could possibly buy from you.
There will also be a “WANTED or NEEDED” section that everyone can use for anything needed.
***PLEASE OTE*** Drop off your typed or printed item at the editors house @ 11150 Mesquite Dr.
There is a mailbox beside the door that it can be placed in or you can email the information to:
Please specify if you want it only for the one month or how long and please notify me when an item is sold.
Remember, the sale is strictly between the seller and purchaser. Please include the phone number and your
name on your ad.
Thanks, Phyllis Grossi

While attending a marriage seminar on communication, Tom and his wife Peg listened to
the instructor declare, “It is essential that husbands and wives know the things that are
important to each other.”
He looked at Tom and asked, “Can you describe your wife’s favorite flower?”
Tom leaned over, touched his wife’s arm gently and whispered, “Pillsbury All-Purpose,
isn’t it?” “Well!!!!”
The rest of the story is not very pleasant……….So men and women be more attentive to
each other…………..
Medical Emergencies
In many cases, THE SPEED, with which your problem can be addressed, becomes of paramount
importance.
To properly address your needs in the shortest possible time, there is much information possible needed by
the emergency personnel attending you.
By filling out the form on the next page of this newsletter and affixing it to your refrigerator with a magnet
or taping it, the emergency people will have at their disposal all of the information which they might
otherwise waste valuable time obtaining in order to properly assist you.
I have received many excellent suggestions on how this form might be displayed and for the sake of
uniformity threw out our community, we have determined that the best place for it is on the refrigerator, so
if needed, any member of the community can direct emergency personnel to it.
Thank you, Tony Trubiano

ight Patrol
To begin with our ranks have been thin only eleven (11) members of our community have participated and
now with “Snowbirds” leaving and some illness among us, we are down to no more than seven (7) for
summer and early fall - with vacations coming, this number will surely fall.
WE NEED YOUR HELP, WHEN YOU CAN. Please sign up at the club house or call Tony Trubiano at
813-992-0844.
Ladies - you can participate too (many at Blue Jay do.) What we need is eyes and ears, not brawn.
Ideally we should have two (2) persons working together, but with participation so low, this has not been
possible.
Please call if you can participate, Thanks, Tony Trubiano
_____________________________________________________________________________________
To, Tony Trubiano,
On behalf of all the ladies who live alone here at Southfork, we want you to know how much we appreciate
all your hard work in initiating the security system here and also at Blue Jay. We thank you and all the
people who work to help patrol. God Bless,
Claire Cox
