An attempt to a definition

What’s MOOC to you?

“MOOC is a fuzzy term, it doesn’t

really mean anything” (Chris

Patton)

What is it……?MOOCS IS A COURSE OF STUDY MADE AVAILABLE OVER THE INTERNET WITHOUT CHARGE TO A VERY LARGE NUMBER OF PEOPLE.A MASSIVE OPEN ONLINE COURSE (MOOC) IS AN ONLINE COURSE AIMED AT UNLIMITED PARTICIPATION AND OPEN ACCESS VIA THE WEB. IN ADDITION TO TRADITIONAL COURSE MATERIALS SUCH AS FILMED LECTURES, READINGS, AND PROBLEM SETS, MANY MOOCS PROVIDE INTERACTIVE USER FORUMS TO SUPPORT COMMUNITY INTERACTIONS BETWEEN STUDENTS, PROFESSORS, AND TEACHING ASSISTANTS. MOOCS ARE A RECENT AND WIDELY RESEARCHED DEVELOPMENT IN DISTANCE EDUCATION.

The MOOC existed before the MOOC mania started.

There are two types of MOOC

The xMOOC: content-based MOOCs cMOOC: connectivist MOOCs

XMOOC

Follow a more behaviorist approach arguably dominated by the “drill and grill” instructional methods

Behaviorism: a theory of learning based upon the idea that all behaviors are acquired through conditioning

Use video presentations, short quizzes and testing. They focus on concise, targeted video content with short videos rather

than full-length lectures to wade through and use automated testing to check students’ understanding as they work through content.

Students intake some information, then hopefully engage in doing something while getting a little bit of help from peer learners.

CMOOC

Based on a connectivism theory of learning with networks developed informally

Connectivism is the thesis that knowledge is distributed across a network of connections, and therefore that learning consists of the ability to construct and transverse those networks

They include discussion forums, allow people to bounce ideas around and discuss learning together and one-on-one interaction and easy back-and-forth questioning

cMOOCs emphasize connected, collaborative learning and the courses are build around a group of like-minded individuals who are relatively free from institutional constraints

My field of interest

My field of interest is Information communications technologies, actually the subject in schools called Computer applications technology features that.

I am so interested a lot in ICTs because they have the greater impact in our lives.

I belief that ICTs can and will empower teachers and learners, transforming teaching and learning processes from being highly teacher-dominated to student-centered, and that this transformation will result in increased learning gains for students, creating and allowing for opportunities for learners to develop their creativity, problem-solving abilities, informational reasoning skills, communication skills, and other higher-order thinking skills.

My aim with the MOOC I have chosen

I will conduct a Social network analysis over a socio-technical network of facebook/twitter-based course interactions, comprising both human course participants and hashtags; where the latter represented technological affordances for scaling course communication.

What are ICTs?

ICT (information and communications technology - or technologies) is an umbrella term that includes any communication device or application, encompassing: radio, television, cellular phones, computer and network hardware and software, satellite systems and so on, as well as the various services and applications associated with them, such as videoconferencing and distance learning. ICTs are often spoken of in a particular context, such as ICTs in education, health care, or libraries. The term is somewhat more common outside of the United States.
