In addition tohospital chaplaincy, Jorgeserves as Latina/o ministrycoordinator with the IllinoisConference United Churchof Christ. Le Anne hopes tocomplete her ordinationprocess in the PresbyterianChurch (PCUSA) this win-ter.

Q: It seems like every holiday season someone loses their home to anelectrical fire. What can we do to decorate safely for the holidays?

A: There are many precautions you can take to keep your holiday safe.Make sure all lights and extension cords used outside are certified for

outdoor use and plugged into an outlet with a ground faultcircuit interrupter (GFCI). Check your lights for looseconnections and frayed wires and replace those that areworn out. Make sure you follow the manufacturer'sguidelines on how many strings of lights can be connectedtogether. Don't use metal staples or nails as fasteners forlights. Don’t run extension cords across sidewalks, andlook up for overhead power lines anytime you areworking with a ladder. If you have an artificial Christmastree, make sure it is fire retardant; and if you have a realtree, water it daily to keep it from drying out. For more
