Residents committee chair Jerry Rowland says a 2011 decision by an anonymous arbitrator required a percentage of the lease to go to a repair and maintenance fund, which should by now have around $100,000 in it. As of June this year the committee say they were told the money is not there and Michael Wright refuses to tell them where it is. TDC councillor Kit Maling was at the meeting and was firmly on the side of the residents. He told the Nelson Weekly that the residents have valid concerns, chief among them is the missing money in the repair and replacement fund. “ey’ve paid approximately $100,000 into it and they don’t know where that is. at’s the biggest concern. Last week a new arbitrator released his levy decision on the levy increase for 2012, rais- ing the monthly fees from $125 to $182.75. Michael and Carolyn had wanted $284. rising from $80 to $125 last year.Michael has said previously that he would continue to take residents to arbitration eve-ry year until he got the amount he wanted. But on Monday he told Nelson Weekly that the levy fees for 2013 would be unlikely to rise but there are other mechanisms in place in the lease for the recovery of excess costs. He would not elaborate. But the residents are refusing to pay more than the $125 per month they do currently, citing the missing money and a belief that the Wrights are lying to them about the figure needed to run the village. At the meeting at the village hall on Sunday afternoon an over capacity crowd from the 172 properties, many having to stand out-side, told the villages residents committee they would pay no more. It was later found out that the Wrights had a recording of the

meeting. Instead, the decision to raise money from supporters outside the village and fight the Wrights in court was met with cheers and clapping. Residents pay the levy on top of owning their own home and paying normal council rates and other bills. The arbitrators decision dates back to Janu-ary 1 this year, meaning every resident is required to pay the Wrights $635 ten days before Christmas and up their levy payments from December 1. But the residents com-mittee lawyer Warwick Heal has advised the residents not to pay it to the Wrights, accord-ing to Jerry. Warwicks deepest concern is with the repairs and replacement fund. Right now there should be about $100,000 in that account, he told the residents. In June, a year and a half after that award was made, we got a letter saying this years increase will im-plement that account. It should have already been implemented.

We cant prove where [the money] is, we dont know where it is. Its gone into Michael and Carolyns bank account, theres nothing to stop them for using it from other purpos-es. Our lawyer has made it clear to us that hes recommending that we establish a separate bank account and the difference between the $125 youre now paying and the $182.75 they want, take the difference and put it in this separate account for just repairs and mainte-nance.But other residents disagreed and said they shouldnt pay any more then they do now.Nelson Weekly understands it is quite com-mon practice in this situation for the repair and maintenance fund to belong to the venue as opposed to the landlord and the funds stay with the venue if sold. That is not the case with Waimea Village.Jerry said the residents were up for the fight. It might be their business, but damn it its our home.

An attempted prank on the unveiling of a new sculpture in Nelson last week was averted just hours before the ceremony began. Before the statue Dance to the Music of Time was put on its plinth at the corner of QEII Drive and Trafalgar St, an unidentified man was photographed on it appar-ently acting out the name of the new statue. In a letter dropped off to Nel-son Weekly, containing the photos, the supposed author Bucchus wrote that the sign, erected near the sculpture to explain its meaning, was tak-en down and to the authors home where the photos were added before it was re-hung.I snuck the sign down, took it home and modified it a bit (looked bloody good in my digs). Re-hung it, covered it up and waited in anticipa-tion for the reveal at grand revealing on Thursday lunch-time, the letter says.It then goes on to say: Some bugger pooped it! And re-moved my photos! The prank is similar to those performed last year before and during the Rugby World Cup and it is believed to be the work of the same group of people.Arts and heritage adviser for Nelson City Coun-

cil, Debbie Daniel-Smith says the attempted prank was tasteless.I think there were a bit of shenanigans going on but I am disturbed about this kind of thing.

We do have an urban arts pol-icy and we are tolerant apart from anything that is offen-sive, tatty or in poor taste and I think the council is pretty good. Urban art can be clev-er and really add something to a city but I wouldnt have thought that trying to alter a sign is necessarily clever.Signs are there for informa-tion and I dont know what they would be trying to acheive. The photos were removed during the set up for the cer-emony.The letter to the Weekly fin-ishes with: I reckon it [the photo] was a vast improve-ment on the shark-like ser-pentine creature and a damn lot cheaper!NCC deputy mayor Ali Boswijk, who was at the un-veiling, says she didnt see the photos but wasnt too con-cerned. They clearly havent marked it permanently, if they had it would have been sad really. But if its just for a bit of fun then clearly they think a lot of themselves. Im fairly relaxed about it but people do put a

lot of work into these things and they should be respected.

Its not every day you get hand-fed by the Prime Minister and it was smiles all round for not only a tank of sea slugs who were treated to a lunch of mussels by John Key, but the researchers and scientists at the Cawthron Institute who received news of a $26 million investment towards their research. The groundbreaking research conducted by the Cawthron Institute has been recognised by the government with the Ministry for Primary In-dustries and Spatnz signing a contract that will see mussel spat selectively bred at the Cawthron Aquaculture Park in Nelson over the next seven years. At a ceremony to unveil the sign for a new $5 million laboratory on Thursday, John Key spoke highly of the staff at the Cawthron Institute say-ing he was highly supportive of the facility and their world class research. Cawthron Institute chief executive Professor Charles Eason has called the investment possibly the most excit-ing thing to happen in the mussel industry for decades.

The prime minister spent time touring one of the laboratories and chatting to staff members about their jobs, and said the Cawthron Institute was a world class leader in science innovation, with some of the best scientists conducting cut-ting edge research that was hugely benefitial to New Zealands primary industry. If we can sell new and creative products to the world we are going to be successful.Although hed never fed sea slugs until that day, he says he admired their taste in food as he en-joyed mussels too. Before leaving to his next engagement, the PM talked running with a group of Cawthron em-ployees The CawthRun tribe who run together during their lunch break three to four times a week. He then attended the opening a $1 mil-lion afterhours healthcare facility at Nelson Hos-pital, a facility designed to take the burden off the towns Emergency Department. Earlier in teh day he had attended the announcement of an advanced pilot training school that will open at Helicopter New Zealand in Nelson.

Nelson College for Girls school leavers continued their annual tradition of jumping off the wharf in their uniforms. The tradition is similar to one made famous by Wellington Girls College and is believed to have first occurred in Nelson around three years ago. Each year, Year 12 students at Wellington Girls College jump into the Frank Kitts Park lagoon to celebrate the transition to mufti.Whitney Orange, who is a Year 13 at Nelson College for Girls, says their leap always occurs on

the final day of school the last time each Year 13 student would wear their uniforms. Well most people wouldnt wear them again, says Whitney. I reckon its a cool tradition and something different. I dont know any other school in Nelson that does anything similar.Cold seas and gusty winds greeted the 130 girls who jumped off the wharf this year. NCEA exams began for all senior students across the region last week.

It was three from three for The Lakers at the Bowater Motor Group Top Team finals with the St Arnaud eight adding to their previous two titles. The Lakers, who finished with 890 points, more than 120 higher than runners-up, The Sharks, also claimed maximum points in five of the 12 games.Freeman Roofing finished third place with 768 points, just one below The Sharks.Organiser Katrina McLean, of the Moutere Hills Community Centre, says The Lakers cleaned up having won by just the sole point last year. Theyve got great team work and individually theyre all fantastic performers. The number of points varied per game, so it was very unlikely to see teams finish so close together, despite this years second and third place getters being separated by just one point and the same thing

happening when The Lakers won last year. The Silly Billies of Waimea Intermediate School took out the junior section with 638 points, with The Supa Doolies coming second with 526 points. Some of the games and activities had changed for the 2012 edition with the Filco Farm and Sport quad bike pull being one of the more entertaining challenges, while the Mapua Plumbing Stop the Leak and the Nelson Alarms Bombs Away were favourites amongst some event-goers. The Super Sized Sack Race appeared to be the most difficult though, with teams having to put members into a large sack and race around the course. Some teams did not even complete one lap. Some teams were really struggling in that one. Id say it was the toughest challenge on the day.Katrina says the experienced teams added more competition to the event and was hoping they would all return next year.

Black plane will improve serviceNelson got its first look at a new black plane last week but it wont be the last.Air New Zealand flew a brand new ATR72-600 into Nelson last week, the first of seven that has been bought by the national air-line carrier, to be run by Mt Cook Airlines. The 68-seat planes will cost around $270 million and will add to the current fleet of regional planes, including those operated by Air Nelson. The planes are painted black with a large silver fern on the side and is the first of its kind for Air New Zealand.Mount Cook general manager Sarah Wil-liamson says the new ATRs will allow the airline to further expand its domestic op-

erations with increased frequency and ex-tra capacity as well as to service new air-ports.This first aircraft will service Nelson and

New Plymouth in addition to the ports where the ATR 72-500 currently flies. Nel-son and New Plymouth have both demon-strated recent growth and were respond-

ing by upgrading some services to the larger ATR aircraft. The flow-on effect of having additional ATR aircraft in Air New Zealands domes-tic fleet means we will have the flexibility to upgrade some Bombardier Q300 and Beech operated routes, as more capacity is required over the coming years, and fur-ther stimulate demand in these regions, she says. The new-generation ATR72-600 is the most efficient aircraft in its class and fea-tures a new cabin layout in Air New Zea-lands latest interior colour palette of chalk and ink, larger overhead bins, and ad-vanced cockpit technology.

Nelsons newest piece of public art received a mixed reception amongst those visiting it last week but Nelson City Council says the piece is an exciting addition to the city. The sculpture Dance to the Music of Time, was commissioned by the council at a cost of $200,000. Sculptor Terry Stringer was at the unveiling of the plaque on the sculpture last Thursday. The

piece is at Kinzett Terrace opposite the QE II roundabout.Reaction was mixed when Nelson Weekly visited the sculpture last week. Passers-by said the piece was too small and didnt have enough impact but others said it was beautiful and nice for Nelson. The sculpture stands 5.5 metres tall and represents the four seasons and references the bounty of the sea, the land and

the people. It stands atop a two metre plinth which reflects the shape and form of the Cathedral and Trafalgar bridge which acts as a landmark linking sea to city. Deputy mayor, Ali Boswijk says its exciting to have it in place. High quality public art is a key part of creating a vital, exciting city. Im very pleased with how it looks and think its great to have it in place.

More Nelson hunters are joining local clubs in an effort to stay safe says the president of a deer stalkers club.Morgan Rogers of the Nelson branch of the New Zealand Deer Stalkers Association says his club has more than 500 members, making it the second biggest in the country and has seen a 25 per cent rise in the numbers in the past two years. Membership has spiked on the back of several hunting accidents throughout the country and Morgan says more hunters are safety conscious and wanting to learn how to hunt safely.Theres definitely been an increase [of members] and people wanting to know what to wear, what not to wear, what to take, how to improve their technique, all that kind of thing, he says.Since 2002, there have been 15 hunting deaths in New Zealand, the latest just last month in the North Island. Morgan says every death

rocks the hunting community and as a result hunters are keen to make sure there isnt another one.All of the cases that have happened recently could have been avoided. The number one rule is that you have to identify your target and you havent identified your target if youve shot someone. Thats the long and short of it.The Nelson club runs safety courses for its members and distributes safety information in its monthly newsletter and Morgan says with more and more people heading into the bush he expects the rise in membership to continue.Id like to see a lot more people joining up to groups like us to learn more and get more aware. Just because you have your gun licence it doesnt mean youre a hunter and thats the problem. People buy a rifle and head to the bush and can cause some damage. He says much of the increase has come from young people as the sports been seen as the cool thing to do recently.

Everyone likes to call themselves an expert but few can back it up like Ricky at Living Sound can.Ricky has been around the hi fi retail industry since 1988 and became a co owner of Living Sound in 2003. He believes Living Sound sells the best hi fi brands available. Some of those brands have been associated with Living Sound for over 20 years. Buying hi fi should be fun, exciting and done with consideration. One of the reasons we call ourselves specialists is because we only sell audio systems and have been doing so for 21 years. We dont sell white ware, computers or lounge suites. Ricky says music is soul food and the job of a stereo system is to delve deep into the artists emotional intent. A great stereo system will enrich your life and have you exploring many different types of music. Having a chat with Ricky is an important part of the process so he can make sure youre getting exactly what you want. He says choosing from the new technologies can be a bit intimidating, but at Living Sound they like to keep things simple and make sure their customers understand what the

various products do and which can best suit their needs. We want people to take their time, feel comfortable and ask a lot of questions so they feel empowered to make the right choices. Living

Sound has a dedicated listening room where customers can spend time auditioning equipment with their own music. This is an important part of the process when choosing a home stereo system. The line between buying a new hi fi system and other household appliances has become blurred, devaluing peoples experience of listening to music. The reason our store exists is because we believe good quality sound still matters, says Ricky. In fact,

he not only preaches great sound but lives it too. His current stereo is a high-end Naim system in a dedicated acoustically treated listening lounge. This system delivers music in an exciting, realistic way that portrays the scale, dynamics and emotion we normally only associate with live music. So pop in and see Ricky at Living Sound on Hardy St and have a conversation about getting the best sound in your house.

More than $200,000 has been raised by local schools during the spring gala season, money to spend on extras that are not funded by the Ministry of Education. The funds to provide extra experiences and resources for students have been labelled "crucial" and "imperative" by our region's principals, and they say the money needed to run their schools successfully comes laregly from the generous community around them. The Nelson area has hosted around seven school galas, with St Josephs School raising a total of $29,000 for their twilight gala held earlier this month, and principal Mike Burton says the success of the school gala is paramount to the school's day to day running. The school gala is the biggest and only major fundraising event for most schools says Mike and while the government touts free education the reality is most schools would only just get by on the government operational grant. It barely covers what is needed to run a school. Education is an expensive business. I think our community recognises this as they are always incredibly generous to schools in the region.Enner Glynn school also did well out of their school gala with principal Isaac Day saying it saw an increase in money raised on last year and the $26,500 will go towards funding a new school playground. He agrees that schools heavily rely on the school gala to see them over the line with funding. The school gala is crucial to our school, we have a terrific community and we really appreciate the generosity. Isaac puts the success of the gala down

to the large involvement of parents, supporters and students of the school.Auckland Point School raised $13,000 from it's gala and Stoke School raised $10,000. Auckland Point principal Sonya Hockley says it was their major fundraiser for the year, and that in order to keep up with changing technologies, fund fun and safety compliant play equipment and subsidise school trips, the gala was an imperative event on the school calendar. The funding supplied by the government could run the school if it was careful she says, but in the struggle to enhance learning and provide tools for 21st century learners, they relied heavily on

outside sources to raise the funds needed. The school board has recently decided to shift the time of year the gala is held to ease the pressure off kind and generous businesses that sponsor the school galas, with the spring time events often falling around the same time each year.Hampden St School took in around $21,000 profit from their event last year, and held their twilight gala on Friday night, and although the final figures from Friday aren't yet known. Principal Don McLean says the turnout of around 3000 people looked promising and would mean that planned redevelopment of senior classrooms can go ahead. He says the

gala is always a well organised and looked forward to event. As the principals association Nelson chairman Don says it is fantastic that schools can fundraise themselves through galas, with community support, enough money to pay for new ICT equipment, upgrades to infrastructure and in one case, partially pay a teachers salary. These enable schools to get the extra iPads, the extra programmes for children in classes, extra library books and all. Were pretty lucky in Nelson, theyre well supported by their communities.Don attended a conference in Auckland last week where he visited some schools that do not fundraise at all. Two of them didnt do any. Thats none. In Nelson I guess its that provincial New Zealand type view that schools are the hearts of communities.Nelson Christian Academy raised $9000 from their debut gala held back in September and principal Chris George says that the school achieved a fantastic amount of support through sponsors, parents and the community to "continue offering the great curriculum that we have here."Birchwood Primary hold their gala every couple of years and Nayland Primary hold other community events instead of a gala.Officially, Appleby School has raised more money than any school in the Nelson and Tasman region making a record $41,000 from its four hour long annual country fair. Wakefield School and Upper Moutere raised more than $25,000 each and Hope School raised $33,000.

They say one mans trash is another mans treasure, and this rang true for Margaret and David Winnington of Nelson and their children Grace, Tommy, Elizabeth and Sophie on Saturday. Around 2000 people trawled through the second hand goods on offer at the annual Garage Sale held at the Trafalgar Centre, and all proceeds went straight back to non-profit organisations such as Lifeline, Save the Children and The Brook Waimarama Sanctuary. Each group set up a stall and sold off donated goods to fundraise for their cause, while members of the public grabbed a bargain, filling bags and boxes with clothes books and bric a brac. Labours new affordable housing policy is proposing to build 100,000 basic homes over 10 years - a scheme Labours leader David Shearer says will create jobs as well as give first home buyers in areas of high house prices such as Nelson the chance to buy a home. The leader of the opposition set out the

details of the KiwiBuild policy in his keynote speech at the partys annual conference in Auckland on Sunday. He says it would be the largest public building programme in 50 years and as well as addressing the problem of housing affordability for first home buyers, it would create jobs.

The scheme would work with the private sector and community housing groups with two thirds of the homes built in the first five years to be in unaffordable centres. That includes Auckland, Christchurch, Tauranga, Wellington, Queenstown and Nelson.

Dr Robert Beulink is one of New Zealands leading and highly experienced doctors in the field of cosmetic surgery and appearance medicine. Commencing in 1992, he was one of the very first practitioners in this field in New Zealand, and was instrumental in introducing the new concept of appearance medicine to New Zealand. Dr Beulink says cosmetic and appearance medicine is a very personal decision which he discusses carefully with his clients so he can provide options that lead to a suitable treatment plan. Cosmetic procedures are a lot more acceptable these days compared to the 1990s, but people still

dont want others to know that they have had some work done, he explains. The secret is making sure any work that is done looks entirely natural.

The long, paved highways of the United States were built to make long distance travel be-tween its states bearable. But when two Nel-son men were plotting their month-long trip across the country the highways were the fur-thest thing from their minds.Joe Moreton and John Clifton took their off-road motorbikes and travelled from Los An-geles to Colorado and back to Oregon across six states on dirt tracks, desert sand and mountain passes. They say it is the best way to see the country and are already planning their next off-road adventure, to Australia. The friends loosely followed an off road track called the Trans America Trail that extends across the country but decided to miss the long "boring" parts in the flat American mid-west and picked it up on the eastern edge of Colorado. But first they had to get there from Califor-nia. They say their first real day off road they decided to follow an old Indian trial in Ne-vada that John had found, it was not part of the cross country trail. "We set off on this track and by 7.30 in the morning it was over 30 degrees and the sand was getting deeper and deeper and we thought no, on the first day this is not a sensible thing to do so we re-traced our steps and that was a 250 kilometre aborted loop. Im glad we did because I think we would have been a vultures supper if we continued down that track, says John. But it wasn't just the dodgy tracks that took their toll on the pair. Joe says the heat was their biggest challenge."Our first day was the hottest day in July, their hottest month of the year and it was the hot-test July since records began. So there we were on the hottest day, of the hottest month in Death Valley, the hottest place on earth."

In fact the temperature was so high it was reaching up to 65 degrees Celsius and 48 in the shade says Joe. It finally took its toll with Joe needed to recoup for three days in a small town motel, fighting heat exhaustion. It was just such a shock, Ive never been in a situation like that before, it was desperate. But it got better, we learnt to pace ourselves a lit-tle and we were constantly soaking ourselves with water, says Joe.After that the pair would soak their clothes in cold water each morning before putting them on.As they got higher in Colorado the riding got easier but the views were just as spectacular.Every day there was something that was just amazing, says John. Everything from the Grand Canyon to acres and acres of oil fields where we ended up one day and everywhere you looked all you could see was these little oil heads. The scenery got really dramatic when we got to Utah and the rock formations there. It was incredible.John, who had never been to America before, says the people were a highlight for him. They were very polite, friendly and help-ful and very respectful. The real America is sandwiched between the little strip on the east coast and the little strip on the west coast. And small town America is really struggling. A lot were very poor. The centre of a town we went to was boarded up and tumbleweed blowing down the street. But they were very happy to see us and to have our business. With the journey over they say theyve been bitten and already have large scale plans for future trips. Australia is the start but Asia and South America are also on the wish list. Its an amazing way to see a country and a very fun way to do it as well, says John.

A collaborative effort of children sing-ing, dancing and sharing food saw around 150 students take part in the first ever Stoke cluster kapa haka Minifest on Thursday night, Broadgreen Intermediate played host to the evening, and with the support of around 200 family members in the au-dience, each school took to the stage to share their kapa haka performances. With the great show of support from parents and supporters, and an enthu-siastic effort from each school the night was a huge success that exceeded all ex-pectations says Broadgreen Intermediate principal Derek Lucic,We want to build on social, academic and cultural aspirations together, and do better by our Maori community so this is the start of that conversation. The Minifest is about showcasing our individual character through kapa haka while enjoying a shared experience. The highlight for the students says Derek, is not only the chance to perform in front of other students but also to ap-preciate what the other local schools had to offer. All of the students are just full of energy and excited, its a great way for the kids to have a bit of exposure to performing, and to share in what one another are do-ing, he says.Stoke School principal Pete Mitchener

says it was a wonderful way to showcase the community talent and celebrate what is happening in Stoke schools.Kiana Mason, 10, of Stoke School says she felt really proud to be involved and said it was interesting to see the different kapa haka groups in action.

The schools that took to the stage were Enner Gynn, Stoke, Nelson Christian Academy, Birchwood Primary and Nay-land Primary, and the audience was treated to a special performance featur-ing students from different schools in a combined item at the end of the show.

Brightwater retailers are praising the Great Taste Cycle Trail, saying it has boosted busi-ness in the region, despite being only partially completed.Sprig & Fern Brightwater co-owner Kevin Gear says his business has had to beef up the staff and has altered trading hours to cope with the new demand from cyclists on the weekend. He says staff were actively hand-ing out flyers to people on weekends, hoping to make the most of the towns new visitors. On Saturdays and Sundays there is definitely a large number of people in the Brightwater area just because theyve been on the cycle trail, says Kevin. We already had bike stands but we probably need more. Rose Timpson of Brightwater bar and cafe HQ says turnover has increased directly because of the cycle trail. She says a lot of customers use it as a destination and cycle all of the way from Nelson for a coffee and a bite to eat. It is very much weather dependent but going on coffees we could probably do 250 to 300 in one weekend, she says.Initially, the owners of HQ had not taken the cycle trails potential into consideration when opening on the site last year.Kevin expected his business to benefit but says he is surprised at the number of cyclists that have actually used it, despite only having small segments of the trail completed. When the full loop is completed, Kevin be-lieves there will be more cyclists from out-of-town coming through Brightwater. He would be amazed if other townships such as Mapua and Wakefield did not benefit once the trail was completed and believed it was a good time for businesses to embrace it. Businesses should think about how they can meet the requirements on the trail, he says.Rose says there was huge opportunity for peo-ple to open accommodation as Brightwater looks to become even more of a destination.

I enjoyed your story on George Bennett and really hope what he

says is true and he isn't just being naive. Cycling has been through the wringer thanks to those who take drugs and Lance Armstrong is the worst because of his profile. I would like to watch George race in the Tour de France and know he is in a fair race again.T. Carter, Nelson.

Three container ships and a general car-rier, two deliveries of fertiliser, a log ship, a cement ship, and nine large fishing vessel movements kept the port busy this week The Wally of the Week was how it was described to me when the HM staff reported on a jet skier who had no idea of harbour regulations, five knots or two hundred me-tres from shore. It is unfortunate that guys like this spoil things for all others. Between Haulashore Island and Rocks road there is a 5 knot restriction. This is for the safety of all boaties as there are vessels moored near there, there are frequently swimmers in this area, it is a main thorough fare for yachts, kayaks and paddle boarders. The Harbour Master's office takes a dim view of the ig-norance demonstrated by some speedsters as they travel through this way. To that end we will stringently police this speed limit this summer with a view to prosecuting any person who stupidly endangers others by speeding. I am informed that two guys had a lucky escape this weekend from their overturned dinghy. Luckier than the two who drowned in Auckland from a tragic fishing trip. Al-ways wear your lifejacket, it only takes a mo-ment for the untoward to occur and then you may not be able to get to one.

Guy Williams is embarking on a nation-wide tour and hes bringing his girlfriend along for the ride.It will be the first time that the former Nelson College student, who claimed the Billy T Award earlier this year, has performed his stand-up routine in his hometown.Guy has become a household name since featuring on TV3s Jono and Ben at Ten, formerly The Jono Project. His girlfriend, Rose Matafeo, is a host of TVNZs U Live show and is a two-time Billy T Award finalist. The pair will be performing their stand-up comedy routines at the Nelson School of Music on Thursday December 13. My personal dream has always been to drive from small town to small town doing gigs. So weve booked what Id describe as an overly ambitious national tour. Weve still had zero interest in Rotorua but weve had stunning interest in other areas so its been pretty good all things considered, says Guy.Guy says coming back to Nelson is the ultimate dream and was hopeful that it could spark more interest in the comedy industry. While it was scheduled for the Nelson School of Music, the number of pre-confirmed bookings will dictate whether the show is in the main auditorium or in the 78-seat Balling Theatre. Behind the two major centres, Nelson has been our third most successful venue. Maybe if I tell enough relatives about it we can sell that place out, he jokes. The tour will include 13 shows between Auckland and Christchurch.

Rose says she was looking forward to coming to Nelson, which was the first place in the South Island she had ever been to. Ive learnt a lot about New Zealand geography planning this tour. Ive never been on a big road trip like this so it should be exciting, she says.Tickets for the show need to be confirmed early and you can do so by emailing [email protected]. However, the price is competely up to you.

Its called koha which is a new concept to the people of Nelson. It means pay what you want. Theres no pressure, if you dont laugh you dont have to pay anything. Its potentially free as my brother said.Guy and Rose are also looking for a local comedian to perform a five minute set at the beginning of the show. If you are interested please email the above address and let Guy know why you would be a good addition to his and Roses show.

Nelson City Council will not take part in the governments leaky home package after it decided the current system was working. The councils audit, risk and finance committee resolved that the council wont become a participating territorial authority to the Leaky Homes Financial Assistance Package under the Weather-tight Homes Resolutions Services Amendment Act.The Leaky Homes Financial Assistance Package is a Government initiative aimed at giving homeowners of leaky residential buildings an option to repair their homes without going through the often protracted legal or mediation process. It has been developed collaboratively between the Government and local authorities, represented by Local Government New Zealand and the four most impacted metropolitan councils. Chair of the audit, risk and finance committee, councillor Ian Barker says the committee discussed the advantages and disadvantages of the package. As weve had a very small number of claims related to leaky homes in comparison to the large numbers in other parts of the country, the committee felt the best option was to retain the status quo and assess claims on a case by case basis. However, we have agreed to reassess the option of joining the Leaky Homes Financial Assistance Package following the Government-led review of the Scheme in 2014.
