ACX Kids is where students in grades 4 through 8 can nurture their creativity with art and design classes tailored to their needs and taught by practicing artists and designers. In addition to artistic exploration, kids will be exposed to innovative possibilities, visual literacy and critical thinking. They’ll learn how to solve problems, find new ways to express themselves and become designers of their own worlds.

Obstacles don’t have to stop you. If you run into a wall, don’t turn around and give up. Figure out how to climb it, go through it, or work around it. – Michael Jordan

During this challenging time, your family has no doubt had to come up with creative methods to balance remote schooling with increased demands on your personal and professional lives. Here at ArtCenter Extension Kids (ACX Kids), we've also had to adapt. In response to the pandemic, we have worked overtime to find innovative ways to continue providing opportunities to engage young minds through art and design.

While instruction will continue to be offered remotely until it is safe to meet in person, our mission remains unchanged: to encourage students in grades 4-8 to express themselves and to find their sources of inspiration. Our classes, held throughout the year, mirror the many disciplines offered at ArtCenter and are taught by members of the College’s community—faculty, alumni, undergraduate and graduate students—who foster new ways of thinking, seeing and making.

We believe an art and design education improves children’s lives in many ways, from promoting collaboration to inspiring career paths. But no benefits are more important—particularly during challenging times—than helping kids see that they can make their imagination visible, turn the ordinary into the extraordinary, and view the world and themselves through a different lens.
