Equity and Diversity

Ensuring Equity: Roosevelt is committed to ensuring equity for all students. We are working as a family to educate ourselves on

content that will help us to keep this commitment to our students, community and colleagues. Here are some of the resources we

are working through. We encourage you to grow and learn with us:

• Ensuring Equity for All Students https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CjrFnmeGtL8

• Equity vs Equality https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nCS7Rus4_-Y

Diversity Sensitivity Reminders: Equal and equitable treatment of people irrespective of color of their skin, gender, age, sexual

orientation is critical to the continuous achievement and growth of our nation. We are cognizant that we need to be aware of our

own biases whether conscious or subconscious. This helps us to ensure that we are addressing the needs of our students,

colleagues, and community without partiality. Impartiality is a conscious effort until it becomes second nature. We will continue

to work together to ensure that we stay sensitive to our diverse population both in house and throughout of community. Here are

a few resources that can assist in this journey.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION

ATTENDANCE The importance of regular school attendance cannot be overemphasized. A CHILD SHOULD BE IN SCHOOL EVERY

DAY THAT HE/SHE IS PHYSICALLY ABLE. It is difficult to successfully keep up with class work if attendance is irregular. All students arriving late to school MUST be checked in by the parent at the front office.

DRESS CODE All students are expected to adhere to the Brevard Public Schools’ dress code. Please make sure you have reviewed expectations. Students will be given a warning for the first two violations and corrective actions will follow with a third and beyond violation.

CLINIC INFORMATION Roosevelt maintains a school clinic staffed by a Health Care Technician for those students who become ill or injured.

Students with fevers will be sent home. Other illnesses will be evaluated on a case by case basis and parents will be called if necessary. PLEASE BE SURE THE OFFICE HAS CURRENT PHONE NUMBERS WHERE A PARENT CAN BE REACHED. Students will only be released to parents or authorized persons whose names are on file.

ADMINISTRATION OF MEDICATION

School personnel shall be authorized to assist students in the administration of prescription medication. However the following specific laws and rules must be followed:

• All medication must be kept in the clinic.

• Parents must bring the medication to the clinic. Please do NOT send medication with a child.

• Medication must be in the original container.

• A Request for Administration form must be on file in the clinic. There must be a form for each medication.

• Proper disposal of unused medication shall be the responsibility of the Principal.

CHANGE OF ADDRESS Please notify the office immediately if your child’s address or phone number will be changing, even if it is only temporary.

The school must have current emergency information on file. Please keep this information updated throughout the year.

VISITOR INFORMATION

VISITING THE SCHOOL

Parents are welcome to visit the school to volunteer or have lunch with your child. You must first sign in at the front office and print a visitor’s badge. This is for the protection of all. Parents who wish to eat lunch with their child will sit with their child at our designated visitor’s table.

EARLY CHECKOUT PROCEDURES

In an effort not to interrupt your child’s education, appointments should be made after school hours if possible. If a student is to be checked out early, a note should be sent to the teacher in advance. Students will be called to the office once the parent or an authorized person signs him/her out. Students will ONLY be released to the parent or an authorized person whose name is on file. Due to security and dismissal procedures, parents are encouraged NOT to request early check out prior to normal daily dismissal. To avoid disrupting the end of day procedures, necessary early check-outs should be made prior to 1:45.

GET INVOLVED…

SCHOOL ADVISORY COMMITTEE The School Advisory Committee is comprised of parents, teachers, administrators and

community members. Through conducting a needs assessment, the committee determines goals and objectives for the School Improvement Plan. They work with a budget, determined by the state, which is spent on items outlined in the School Improvement Plan. The School Advisory Committee meets once a month.

PARENT TEACHER ORGANIZATION (PTO) The PTO is a volunteer service organization comprised of members who share an interest in the well-being of the student body and a desire to contribute their time and efforts to enhance education at Roosevelt. The PTO organizes such activities as the annual Ziti Dinner, Pool Party, and various fundraisers. General meetings will be announced in the school newsletter. There are a number of committees on which you can serve.

APPLE CORPS VOLUNTEERS Roosevelt welcomes all parents, grandparents, community volunteers, and friends who would like to volunteer their time. No time to spend at school, but would still like to help? We need you too! Contact the school for more information.
