PROGRAMME SCHEDULE
The 2 Year BBA is designed to give students semester-like ‘sets’ of study of 3 – 4 months at a time, followed by a break. The programme consists of 20 subjects and is divided into three stages: the Diploma of Management, the Associate Degree in Management, and the BBA stage.
SUBJECT SCHEDULE
One subject is delivered over a month, although the Project (Planning) and Project may be introduced during the last stage.
The assessment for each subject in the BBA is:
• One examination (worth 75%)
• One assignment (worth 25%)
DURATION
The BBA can be completed in 3 years of full-time study, or in 2 years in accelerated mode. Students can also take up to 6 years to complete the programme on a part-time basis.
INNOVATIVE MODEL - 2 YEAR BBA WHILE YOU WORK
THE 2 YEAR BBA COMPRISES 20 SUBJECTS, DESIGNED BY INDUSTRY LEADERS FOR FUTURE BUSINESS LEADERS.
The key features of the model are:
• Work-oriented learning focus – applying knowledge to the workplace

CORE SUBJECTS
SPECIALISATION SUBJECTS
Business EconomicsThe language of economics enters business through media market and macroeconomic analysis, and through the economic impact of strategy and policy decisions of business and government. Literacy in the language of and the basic models used in economic analysis is core to understanding how economic factors influence businesses.
Organisational BehaviourEffective management of the workforce requires an understanding of individual and group behaviours. This subject provides knowledge, based on organisational psychology, about individual and group behaviour in the workplace.
Operations Management FundamentalsThis subject addresses the design, management and control of operations and processes that produce an organisation’s products and services. Managers need an understanding of how businesses operate and how processes and operations can potentially be improved.
Marketing Principles and PracticeMarketing is a basic cornerstone of business. Students need to understand marketing principles and the importance of relationships with customers and other stakeholders so they can apply these principles to the workplace.
EntrepreneurshipEntrepreneurship is a key driver of our global economy and a vital element for private sector growth and diversity. An entrepreneurial culture contributes to wealth creation and promotes economic development. The study of entrepreneurship allows students to develop the skills needed to create and implement new ideas and creative solutions. This subject complements other subjects in the BBA program such as Strategic Management Principles and Practice and Marketing Principles and Practice.
Introduction to AccountingThis subject develops a basic understanding of financial statements and develops practical skills required to analyse and interpret accounting information in the business environment, from both external and internal management perspectives. A knowledge of accounting is part of the ‘language of business’ and as such is essential for anyone participating in the decision-making process in organisations.
Fundamentals of ManagementAll managers require a strong foundation in key management principles. The aim of this subject is to provide students with an understanding of management practices and processes, so that they acquire an ability to comprehend why good managers behave and act in the ways they do. The students will find the subject of practical utility and benefit.
Business Ethics and Social ResponsibilityManagers must have a good understanding of ethics and social responsibility in order to be able to function with integrity in the workplace. This subject provides an important foundation to help ethical behaviour and ethical thinking.
Strategic Management Principles and PracticeEvery organisation is guided by the strategies set out by senior management and organisational competitiveness is directly affected by changes in strategy. Hence, all managers need an understanding of the role of strategic management.
Business FinanceAn understanding of the principles of finance is important for any manager and therefore is included in the core of business degrees. Students are expected to develop knowledge of financial principles and their applications to financial decision-making in a business.
Business PlanningBusiness plans assist entrepreneurs to test the feasibility of their business idea, secure funding, attract investors, build partnerships and/or guide development. This subject expands on the material covered in the BBA core subjects and complements Entrepreneurship, Strategic Management Principles and Practice, and Marketing Principles and Practice.
Consumer BehaviourConsumer Behaviour is an essential cornerstone of the marketing discipline. Issues including the decision-making process, cultural, internal and external influences are addressed in the subject, enabling marketers to gain in-depth understanding of their target consumers. Marketers need to understand how customers make buying decisions, in order to make informed decisions about the planning, development, and implementation of effective marketing strategies.
Creativity and InnovationThe most successful organisations are those that are able to be creative and innovative in their operation and marketing and in the products and services they offer. Managers should be aware of ways to encourage creativity and leverage innovation. This subject enables participants to identify and employ strategies and actions to enhance the creativity and innovation of organisations.
Digital MarketingThis subject brings traditional marketing up-to-date with a thorough look at e-marketing planning and marketing mix tactics. The focus is on the Internet and other technologies that have a profound effect on how marketing is done now. The subject provides a specialist application for the student of marketing that encompasses emergent and established digital technologies and their incorporation in strategies across the marketing discipline.
Distribution and Marketing LogisticsA manager involved or interested in logistics or the distribution component of marketing needs to be familiar with the concepts and skills of logistics and distribution. This subject provides students with a broad basic foundation in logistics management. The subject complements other units in the course including Operations Management Fundamentals, Intermediate Operations Management, Purchasing and Supply Chain Management, and E-commerce.
E-CommerceMany organisations sell and/or buy products and services electronically. In order to maintain a competitive advantage in a dynamic business environment, it is essential that managers integrate technology effectively with their existing business practices. It is therefore important for managers to be aware of the actual and potential applications of e-commerce and be able to apply their knowledge appropriately.
Financial Institutions and MarketsManaging an organisation involves several decisions relating to investments, fundraising and risk management. Understanding how financial markets operate and the features and limitations of financial instruments available in the market, is important for managers seeking to be effective financial decision-makers. This subject will develop knowledge and skills in this area.
Financial Risk ManagementBusinesses must remain financially solvent to avoid corporate failure, and hence managers need to have good knowledge about financial risk management. This subject allows the student to develop an understanding of the concepts underpinning financial risk management that allow for ongoing sound control of financial and operational risk.
Human Resource DevelopmentHuman Resource Development (a subset of human resource management) focuses on learning, training, and development of the workforce. It is important in the development of a superior workforce well-aligned to organisational goals. Managers often apply HRD principles when seeking organisational change.
Human Resource ManagementThe fundamental principle of Human Resource Management (HRM) is to have the right person for the right job at the right time – which is an important strategic issue. Managers need to have appropriate knowledge and skills to effectively manage people in the organisation.
Intermediate Operations ManagementManagers are often involved in planning and monitoring of operational activities. This subject provides advanced knowledge about important concepts which will enable a manager to function effectively in an operational context.
International Human Resource ManagementIn a complex and dynamic international environment, the management of a global workforce has become the key to organisational success. This subject equips the student with the necessary knowledge, skills and ability to successfully address international HRM challenges.
International MacroeconomicsIn a globalised economy, both domestic and international macroeconomic factors impact businesses and the economic environment in which they operate. Managers with knowledge of international macroeconomic concepts and relationships will be better placed to make informed strategic business decisions and will therefore be more effective in the workplace.
SUBJECT OVERVIEWS
International MarketingOrganisations operate in an international marketplace and have options for expanding internationally. This subject develops an understanding of international marketing concepts required to make the appropriate management decisions in terms of expansion and marketing overseas.

This subject develops understanding of core investment concepts and applies them to manage investments. Students are provided opportunities to relate the subject knowledge to current events in the financial markets.
Leadership IssuesLeadership is an important and indispensable skill when running and managing a business. Leaders should be able to understand the difference between management and leadership, different styles of leadership and behaviour. Managing Conflict and ChangeManagers need to develop a range of conflict resolution skills and be able to apply them in appropriate situations. This subject helps build understanding of concepts relating to managing conflict and change in today’s dynamic world.
Marketing CommunicationAdvertising, promotion and integrated communication are an integral part of marketing. Managers need to understand how to effectively reach and communicate with current and potential customers, as this creates the foundation for success of marketing efforts. Marketing for Tourism and HospitalityMarketing for tourism and hospitality is an important area as tourism is a growing sector in many parts of the world and is increasingly a competitive business. Moreover, marketing is a key function within any tourism organisation, along with operations, finance and human resource management. This subject gives students the knowledge and skills to be able to apply concepts and principles of marketing in the fields of tourism and hospitality.
Organisational StaffingManagers and human resource professionals are required to make decisions about staffing practices. These decisions are frequently made in isolation of knowledge of both the full range of options and the technical, strategic, legal, industrial, cultural and ethical contexts of these choices. Developing knowledge and capacity to analyse and evaluate staffing systems will enable a manager to contribute to the improvement of individual, team and organisational performance.
Professional Meetings and Event Co-ordinationManagers need to be able to conduct professional meetings and organise professional events. Hence, managers need the tools and strategies to effectively procure, organise, implement, and monitor the products, vendors, and services needed to bring an event to life. This subject focuses on the process of event co-ordination and the main factors impacting on meetings and events.
Project ManagementProject management skills are essential in most areas of business. Managers are likely to be involved in leading projects both large and small. Projects that had potential for success often fail through lack of project management skills. This subject provides an understanding of project management principles in order to enhance a manager’s effectiveness when involved in projects.
Purchasing and Supply Chain ManagementThis subject forms part of the logistics and supply chain specialisation in the BBA degree. The purpose of this subject is to provide students with important basic concepts and skills in purchasing and supply chain management, which are vital business activities for every organisation throughout the world. The subject complements other units in the course including Operations Management Fundamentals, Intermediate Operations Management, Distribution and Marketing Logistics, and E-commerce.
Quantitative MethodsManagers are exposed to many forms and sources of raw data in their professional roles. In order to make a wide range of business decisions, managers must have both the means and knowledge to extract information from this data. This subject introduces the student to common statistical practices and data analysis techniques used to transform data into forms appropriate for conveying information, solving business-related problems, and supporting business decisions.
Selling and Sales ManagementMany business people are involved, directly or indirectly, in selling products and services. Hence, knowledge of the theory and processes of sales management can enhance managerial performance. This subject introduces students to the principles and tools for effective selling and sales management.
Small Business ManagementThe vast majority of businesses are small or medium-sized and many business graduates set up or work in small (entrepreneurial) enterprises. Hence, it is important to cover small business management issues clearly in the course.
Sustainable Tourism & Hospitality ManagementWith increasing diversification and competition, managing sustainability has become an important strategic goal for the tourism industry worldwide. It is important for tourism managers to understand the concepts, principles, and implications of sustainable tourism and hospitality management.
Project (Planning)Many managers are required to do research in the workplace. In order to be effective, managers need to understand the process of research and be able to present research appropriately. This subject introduces students to the concepts of business research, including relevant methods, and guides the process of research planning.
ProjectManagers are required to do research in the workplace. In this subject students plan, research and write a project with practical relevance. HOW TO FIT THE BBA INTO YOUR LIFE
WITH AIB’S UNIQUE MONTHLY LEARNING MODEL, WE ALLOW YOU TO ACCELERATE YOUR LEARNING BY FOCUSING ON ONE SUBJECT EVERY MONTH* BEFORE MOVING ONTO THE NEXT.
We understand that with work, family, and social commitments it can be difficult to juggle the 3 – 4 subjects traditional universities require over each semester.
*Except Project (Planning) and Project
AIB’s Monthly Learning Model is the preferred solution for busy, working adults who also want to study full-time. The amount of independent study you will complete each week will depend on your individual circumstances.
Where would you find the time to study? Read on to hear real examples of how our graduates fit the BBA into their life and a few of their study tips.
GRADUATE STUDY TIPS:
Organise your study schedule – keep on track by blocking out times each week to study at times that work best for you.
Create a ‘study zone’ – find a quiet, well-lit area in your home, office, or local library where you can study regularly.
Use your study resources – AIB puts an online library, study materials and student forum at your fingertips, making it easy to get the support you need.
Write down your goals – What are you hoping to achieve within the BBA and beyond? Focusing on your goals will keep you on track and motivate you throughout your journey.
Experienced academics – our highly qualified team of academics provide academic guidance to support the diverse needs of our students. (This could include tips on how to properly construct an assignment or general study advice.)
Online library – with EBSCOhost, you’ll gain access to thousands of high quality journal articles to support you with your assignments.
Online discussion forums – engage in discussion forums and seek advice, share experiences and network globally with students and staff.
Student relations – our supportive Student Relations team is here to help with your general enquiries and provide study support.
Don’t take on more than you can handle – carefully consider what is possible within your current schedule, and plan your timetable in stages to keep up with a changing schedule.
Tell your employer about your study plan and deadlines – discuss your plans with your manager and ask about flexible working arrangements such as study leave or flexible hours.
Get organised – list your assignment deadlines and exam dates along with your major work commitments, then prioritise your workload each week.
Schedule guilt-free family and social time – put aside time for family and friends and ensure your schedule still allows for sufficient leisure time to de-stress.
At the start of my BBA journey, I did not know what to expect. But I quickly got accustomed to the structure, and suddenly I was on a roll. In the end, I actually found myself waiting for the next month’s topic before the current one had ended.
SARAH MOHAMMED AIB BBA Graduate (2014)
When you do the research and read the case studies, it makes your study come alive. You are learning about the concepts that real people are practicing in their work each day, and which you will now be able to apply at work too.
KAREN LEACOCK-RICHARDS AIB BBA Graduate (2014)
My advice would be to set a meaningful and workable schedule and stick to it. Let your employers know that you are studying a BBA and that you are applying what you are learning. Let them know your schedule in advance so they can give you the appropriate time off.

driven by passion, it doesn’t occur as work.”
Naomi Simson Founding Director of RedBalloon
and ‘Shark’ on Network TEN’s Shark Tank Australia
(Speaker at AIB’s 2015 Sydney Alumni Event)
“I learned very early on, if you want to achieve exceptional results, in person
or business, you have to be prepared to take risks. Give things a go. Unless you
try, you will never know. Always be aware of failure but never ever fear it.”
John Anderson Founder of Contiki Holidays
(Speaker at AIB’s 2015 Adelaide Alumni Event)
“The number one reason our business fails or succeeds is because of the people we surround ourselves with. Our business has goals and plans to
succeed, and we need people who will work through every single challenge and
just do it.”

ALL GRADUATES ARE INVITED TO THE CELEBRATE THEIR ACHIEVEMENT AT AN AIB GRADUATION CEREMONY.
The Australian Graduation Ceremony tends to be in November each year where Graduates are formally conferred their degree in the presence of their family, fellow graduates, faculty, industry guests, and Members of Parliament.
The ceremony is attended by faculty, academic and advisory board members, and high profile guests, many of whom have presented inspiring and thoughtful graduation keynote speeches.
In recent years, these proficient keynote speakers have included Janine Allis, Founder of Boost Juice, and Glenn McGrath, Former Australian International Cricketer, and Co-Founder of the McGrath Foundation.
Their speeches are aimed at motivating and inspiring our graduates with their successful business stories.
As graduates of “The Practical Business School,” graduates recognise the value their qualification has to the industry, due to its emphasis on practical application of each skill to the workplace, and know that this memorable achievement will be valued for a lifetime.
I brought my wife and three children to watch me graduate
because I really wanted to show my children that it doesn’t matter what age you are, if you
put your mind to something, you can do it.

COURSE FEES
AIB’s BBA programme is amongst the most affordable in Australia.
Your specific course fees will depend on a number of factors including: your location, whether you are undertaking the course in stages, whether you are entitled to exemptions, and when you are planning on commencing studies.
Your Course Advisor will be able to provide you with the current fee schedule and determine your specific course fees payable.
FEE-HELP
The Australian Institute of Business (AIB) is an accredited Higher Education Provider and is approved to offer FEE-HELP, an Australian Government loan scheme which assists eligible students to pay part or all of your tuition fees.
There is a loan fee of 25% for FEE-HELP loans for undergraduate courses of study only. The loan fee does not count towards your FEE-HELP limit. The Commonwealth Government pays the amount of the loan directly to AIB on the students’ behalf.
Your eligibility for FEE-HELP is not affected by your income and assets. Interest is not applied to FEE-HELP debts, however an index amount is applied each year and this indexation amount is in line with the Consumer Price Index (CPI).
For further information regarding FEE-HELP, please visit www.studyassist.gov.au.
UP-FRONT PAYMENT OPTION
If you are not FEE-HELP eligible and you are not studying in Australia, you may enjoy considerable savings by paying for your course fees up-front. Paying up-front also protects you from future course fee increases.
Students can only pay upfront per stage of study, and cannot pay for the full course upfront. The three stages of the Bachelor of Business Administration programme are the Diploma stage, the Associate Degree stage, and the Bachelor stage, and must be completed in order.
FUNDING SOURCES
In addition to FEE-HELP, funding sources vary from student to student. The vast majority utilise personal funds for their
studies, while others prefer to spread their payments into manageable amounts over a period of time with a low-rate credit card, personal loan, or incorporating this in a home loan.
PAYMENT MODES
Payments can be made by (Visa/MasterCard) credit card online through our payment gateway which attracts a small credit card surcharge. Other accepted modes of payment are: cheque, direct debit, and bank transfer.
TAX BENEFIT
If you are accepted into the course, you may be able to obtain a tax deduction of your course fees as a self education expense. Please visit www.ato.gov.au for more information or consult your accountant.
Contact one of our Course Advisors by calling 08 8212 8111 or via email at [email protected] to find out about payment options available to you. Other fees are listed in the application form.
