I. INTRODUCTION

A. We are in 2 Samuel Chapter 15.

1. A continuation of “The Rise of Absalom”.

B. Joab devised a plan to bring Absalom home.

1. Joab played in the King’s emotions. 2. Absalom has been given immunity.

a) What he does next!

II. 2SAMUEL 15:1

A. Nero never went with less than a thousand.

1. To make him look like he was someone!

a) Wanted to look kingly.(1) Either: dad financed

this or he grandpa.(2) Not first time a parent

ignored warning signs.

(a) Perhaps David wanted Absalom to be

king! (b) Right and wrong

way to do things.

III. 2SAMUEL 15:2-6

A. Wrong on every level!

1. Absalom appointed himself judge and jury.

a) Mark 9:35 2. He would intercept anyone.

a) Proverbs 11:1

(1) Not about justice – about Absalom!

3. Indicate King David not doing a good job. 4. If he was King – it

would be different.a) Unlike his father who

left decision to the Lord!

(1) 1Samuel 24:4-7

5. Absalom treated everyone like family.

a) Sounds good doesn’t it?

b) Made everyone feel he had a personal interest.

(1) Well, he did!(a) 1Peter 5:5-6

(b) God’s “due time” takes too long!

IV. 2SAMUEL 15:7-13

A. Weights, measures and numbers hard to translate.

1. King David reigned only 40 years!

a) 4 years too long for Absalom.

B. Absalom lied to his dad.

1. “I want to pay a vow to the Lord!”

a) He could gather his troops.

b) Was Absalom’s home town.

c) Some upset that David moved his headquarters!

2, Absalom wants to be King of Israel!

V. 2SAMUEL 15:14-17

A. King David just leaves Jerusalem with haste!

1. John Gill says that David was “intimidated”.

a) He did not want to kill his son?

b) Taking same posture he had taken with

Saul?c) He trusted the Lord?d) War in Jerusalem would kill many? (1) Hard believing he

was afraid to stand his ground and fight.

VI. CONCLUSION

A. King David MUST have something else on his mind.

1. Nathan exposed his sin with Bathsheba.

a) 2Samuel 12:9-13 (1) Verse 11

(a) Accepting this as God’s judgment!(i) David acting like

the Lord would want him to!

B. Will close with this:

1. Someone wanting to overthrow the kingdom

– be careful! 2. Anyone trying to divide God’s kingdom – not from the Lord.

a) Absalom’s of life motives will be in their

actions.
