2 Point Perspective How To

Learn the basics of two point perspective with these boxes.

Why draw in perspective?

• Perspective drawing can make your drawing change from flat to looking very three-dimensional!

• Perspective drawing can add realism to your drawings in an easy way.

• Learning perspective will help you understand how artists have used the technique for hundreds of years!


Materials You Will Need

• Pencil• Eraser• Ruler• Paper


Rules of Two Point Perspective

• Two point perspective drawing can be easy… if you follow these three simple rules!

1. Bigger objects look closer. Smaller objects will appear farther away.

2. All diagonal lines must line up with one of the two vanishing points.

3. Besides diagonal lines, the only other type of line allowed are vertical lines.


Ready, get set, go!


First, add your vanishing points to the paper. The vanishing points are where your lines will vanish at. Try to make them

even.


Draw a horizon line between the two vanishing points. The horizon line is where your eye level is. You will look up at

anything above your line and look down at anything below it.


Next we will start drawing the boxes. They start by drawing a vertical line on your paper. We will try three boxes. One above

the horizon line, one at the horizon line, and one below it.


Next, attach the top of your vertical line to each vanishing point using your ruler. They will look like long arrows.


The completed lines look like this. It’s okay if the lines touch. Some parts of the lines will be erased later.


Next, connect the bottom of each vertical line to each vanishing point. This step is just like the previous one. If the lines start to

overlap like shown by the red arrow, stop drawing the line at its overlapping point.

It’s looking good! Keep going, we’re almost done!


Draw vertical lines to connect the two diagonal lines. This will form the sides of the boxes.


Erase all extra diagonal lines so you are left with your three boxes. Your middle box is complete! You can erase the horizon

line that is inside the middle box.


Get ready to finish the last two boxes!


Connect the top or bottom of the sides of each box to the opposite vanishing point. The two lines will cross over each

other, forming the top or bottom of the box. You do not have to draw your lines the whole way if they hit another box.


Erase any extra lines and your boxes are complete!


To add to the three-dimensional look, shade your boxes and add value.
