• Ship cranes

Geared container ships are generally small in size, used for feeder trade. They have center mounted or side mounted cranes capable of SWL 50 tons.

• ShiptainersAs an alternative to a ship’s crane, some container ships have one or two gantry cranes mounted to serve all container bays.

• Ship spreadersThe ship spreader generally is of fixed length either of 20 foot or 40 foot. There may be more than one spreader of each length.

Ship spreaders• Fork-lift truck replaced the forks by a

spreader similar to a ship spreader

• Four legged slingsAn alternative to the ship spreader. An added advantage of the 4 legged sling is that it can be used on flat bed platform containers.
