DIVINE MERCY IN MY SOUL (continued) As often as you hear the clock strike the third hour immerse yourself completely in My mercy, adoring and glorifying it, invoke it's omnipotence
for the whole world, and particularly for poor sinners, for at that moment mercy was opened wide for every soul. In this hour you can obtain everything for yourself and for others for the asking; it was the hour of grace for the whole world - mercy triumphed over justice. (Diary 1572) HOME IS WHERE THE FAMILY IS The idea, dream, and reality of family is so strong and durable that we use it to describe all that is best about human gatherings. We speak of the family of nations, of our church and parish families. The greatest compliment we can pay a friend or gracious host is to say that we feel at home with them, we feel part of the family. Families are the first crucibles in which love is tested and tempered. Jesus himself was one of three people who lived in the shadow of each other. This family, like our own, did not always “get it right,” but they always tried to. These three “amateurs” were on holiday, and one of them got lost. Two were worried sick and took great measures to find the third, a boy after all, who was seeking the meaning of his calling. He found his vocation—to do his Father’s work—but he also returned home with his parents. Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co . TREASURES FROM OUR TRADITION Today’s feast is new as feasts go, and it sets us this year in a very modern crisis. Amid conflicting schedules and commitments, a young man, testing the limits, has strayed from his parents and gone off to the big city. Mary and Joseph search frantically, only to find the child Jesus in the temple, conversing with the elders and scholars of the law, who are amazed at his wisdom. In the time of Jesus, the temple was the religious center of Jewish ritual. Outside of Jerusalem, people gathered in the synagogues, centers of learning, for daily prayer and study. Still, everyone longed to journey to the temple to participate in the offerings, and to fulfill certain obligations of the law that could only be done there. On this feast, we catch a glimpse of the family of Jesus: parents dealing with the normal stresses of raising a child, and yet completely grounded in the ways of faith and tradition. There has always been an appreciation in Christianity for the value of pilgrimage—the journey to holy places that is a symbol of our life’s journey to God, and a sense of connection to important events in our family history. During the Christmas season, many of us undertake pilgrimages to the family homestead for festival meals, to the parishes where we were formed in the faith, or perhaps even to a beautiful manger scene or festival of lights. There are few better days than this in our calendar for spending time with the family, especially on a short pilgrimage to a favorite place. Just make sure that no one gets left behind! —James Field, Copyright © J. S. Paluch
LITTLE MINUTES-Little drops of water, little grains of sand, make the mighty ocean and the pleasant land; so the little minutes, humble though they be, make the mighty ages of eternity. —Julia A. Fletcher Carney MISSION -God has created me to do some definite service. God has committed some work to me which has not been com-mitted to another. I have a mission. —John Henry Newman
On behalf of myself, Fr. Nana and Deacon Tom, We would like to express our sincere gratitude for the generosity and support that has been provided to the Parish this past year. We hope you and your loved ones enjoy a very Blessed New Year. Thank you!! Fr. John

Let's make sure this is the year we offer our gifts, which come from God, to God's service and for the good of our brothers and sisters. Whether it be knitting/crocheting for our Prayer Shawl Ministry, becoming a Eucharistic Minister or Lector, participating in arts and crafts for the elderly, becoming an RE teacher, joining the choir, etc.- make this the year you use your talents for others. God will bless your work. Make it your New Year's Resolution! James 2: 14-17 What good is it, my brothers, if someone says he has faith but does not have works? Can that faith save him? ... faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead. LAST MAN STANDING RAFFLE is our only fund raiser for Holy Name of Jesus. The drawing will take place here on May 11th at 6PM. Tickets and list of monetary prizes are available in the rectory during normal business hours Tickets are $100 each. History of the Infant Jesus of Prague- The or iginal statue of the Infant Jesus of Prague was created as a royal wedding gift from a Spanish Princess to her Austrian royal cousin. The statue of the Infant is a slender and beautifully-modeled figure and is carved of wood thinly coated with wax, standing nineteen inches tall, with the left foot barely visable under a long white tunic. The left hand encircles a miniature globe, surmounted by a cross, signifying the world-wide kingship of the Christ Child. The right hand is extended in blessing with the first two fingers being upraised to symbolize the two natures of Christ, while the folded thumb and last two fingers touch each other representing the unity of the Father, The Son, and the Holy Ghost
The face has a strange power of evoking sentiments of deep gratitude of the mystery of God-made-Man. For all His majestic posture and regal attire, the little King of Prague is more striking for His outward expression of human littleness than by the impression of hidden greatness. The wardrobe of the Infant is similar to the priest’s alb: one is of white linen, the other is of lace. Covering these is a dalmatic made of silk or velvet over which is worn a cape. It represents the Infant Jesus dressed in royal robes, wearing a crown. He is King of the Universe. Later, the statue had been discarded in war and His hands destroyed. Found by a Carmelite, he fixed the hands and placed the statue in a place of honor in the Carmelite Church in Prague, Czech Republic.
In 1637, as Fr. Cyril prayed before the Infant, he was filled with wonder, contemplating the loving God Who became a child for His people. Suddenly, the statue spoke to the stunned Carmelite:
Have mercy on Me and I will have mercy on you. Give Me hands and I will give you peace.
The more you honor Me, the more I will bless you
The many miracles have occurred through intercession to the Divine Infant. During one invasion, all the children of the city were taken to the Church for protection—praying to the Infant, they were all saved. For almost four centuries, this promise of protection and blessing has inspired devotion and love of the Infant Jesus of Prague.
The home of the Infant Jesus of Prague is in the city of Prague, which is the capital of the Czech Republic. The original statue has been restored and preserved in the Carmelite church of Our Lady of Victory The Church was returned to the Carmelites after the fall of Communism. The statue provides spiritual uplift for millions of people who have adopted the Holy Infant’s call to humility, simplicity, and sincerity and to become little in order to become great and pleasing before Christ the King. Devotion to the Miraculous Infant Jesus celebrates the “Child of God”—the great mystery of the Incarnation. The child in all of us believes in the humanity and divinity of Christ and rejoices in God’s caring and protective love for us. The Infant reminds us that God is holding us in the palm of His hand. The effective spiritual meditation is the reason why the Infant Jesus of Prague is so continuously appealing to human hearts all over the world, which he has so firmly in His hands. You can find His statue in almost any church, convent, monastery and house, representing a Divine Protection toward His devotees. www.infantprague.org/about-the-infant-jesus-of-prague/ As the devotion to the Infant Jesus spreads throughout the world, many parishes now offer Holy Mass and novenas to honor the Holy Child of God and many prayer groups have been formed. Jesus has kept His promise that the more that He is honored, the more that He will bless them. This is truly evidenced by the many favors He has granted to those who ask Him. The most important event so far has been the visit of Pope Benedict XVI in 2009. In his speech, the Pope stated that the Prague Infant Jesus demonstrated God's closeness and love through his child tenderness. The Pope prayed for children who are victims of violence and different forms of abuse. He also prayed for broken and unfaithful families. He offered a crown as a present for the Infant Jesus. Veneration of the Prague Infant Jesus is a spiritual extension of Christmas. We bow down to Christ embodied. We profess that God took onto Himself human form and recognise that childhood is part of it. “God made himself nothing, taking the very nature of a servant being made in human likeness…” (Phil 2,7). Jesus Christ experiences complete human life, from beginning to end. In His conception, birth, and childhood we meet the real God, as well as in his adulthood, death, and resurrection. Adult Jesus, Master and teacher, later on invites his disciples: “In truth I tell you, unless you change and become like little children you will never enter the kingdom of Heaven.” (Matthew 18,3)https://www.pragjesu.cz/en/the-history-and-veneration-of-the-prague-infant-jesus/

RESIDENTS ENCOUNTER CHRIST (REC) REC is a Catholic evangelizing ministry of priests, deacons, professed religious and lay persons who enter prison to provide 3-day spiritual retreats and to share the saving message of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. The REC teams from this area now cover ten N.Y. State correctional facilities within the Archdio-cese of New York which are located in Dutchess, Westchester, Orange, Ulster and Sullivan Counties. The Catholic chaplains who recognize the positive impact of REC upon the prison population are ask-ing us not only to sustain but also to increase the REC presence at their facilities. REC is faithful to church teachings and very well aligned with the “new evangelization” to which our recent Holy Fa-thers have been calling us. We need to increase the number of lay persons actively involved in REC – particularly in the MEN’s prisons. Please prayerfully consider helping in some way. For more information about REC and ways in which you may be able to help, please call Frank Fitzgerald at (845) 297-3335 or HNJ parishioner, Jim Collins who’s email is [email protected] CATHOLIC UNDERGROUND – every 2nd Saturday of the month at Our Lady of Fatima Church in Scarsdale, NY beginning at 7pm for young adults and young at heart.
