February isAdopt-a-Rescued-Rab-bit Month, and Heath isone of the lucky bunnieswho has already found ahome, after four monthsin a shelter and overthree years in a fosterhome prior to that.

These days hehas more personal ac-commodations, thanksto his adopter, DanielTom in San Leandro,Calif.

Heath has hisown bed and litter box(yes, rabbits do use litterboxes) and has plenty ofspace to run and jump.He has a perch fromwhich he can keep aneye on his new familyand a dining area with aview.

"Many yearsago," Tom says, "we dis-covered so many lovingcompanions, just waitingfor someone to take no-tice." Tom was one whodid take notice. "Heathis our fourth rescue rab-bit," he says.

No longer oneamong many, Heath hasa run with enough spaceto play and jump. Hegets bunny massages, which he loves, as wellas lots of other attention.

Heath was listedon Petfinder by theHouse Rabbit Society inRichmond, Calif., whichserves at the interna-tional headquarters forthe House Rabbit Soci-ety.

His happy tail onPetfinder is a thank-youto the folks at the soci-ety, who took care ofhim while he awaited ahome of his own, wherehe is now happily en-

sconced as a member ofthe family. Tom says heis a loving, caring anddedicated companion.

Domes-tic rab-bitsmakeexcellentcompan-ion ani-mals,but be-foreadoptingone it'simpor-tant tolearn their habits to seeif they're right for you.

Visitwww.petfinder.ocm/pet-care/rabbit-care/ for theins and outs of rabbitcare. Over 5,000 adopt-

able rabbits are listed onPetfinder at any giventime. Forty-four breedsare listed at

www.petfinder.com/breeds/rabbit.

February is agood time toconsidersome bunny to love.

Many of us arelooking for fresh ways tolead healthier lifestylesand eat nutritiously, without having to sacri-fice flavor. You may al-ready be eating fruitsand veggies, like broc-coli and bananas, buthere are five nutritionalsuperstars you shouldbe piling on your plate ifyou aren't already:

1. Lentils.Lentils may look like therunt of the legume fam-ily, but don't be fooled. These are rich in dietaryfiber and are a goodsource of iron and fo-late, which collectivelyhelp reduce the risk ofheart disease, increaseyour metabolism and im-

prove digestive health.Talk about big thingscoming in small pack-ages!

2. Cauliflower.Cauliflower is having itsturn in the spotlight thisyear -- and rightfully so.This cruciferous veg-etable is rich in vitaminC, fiber and potassium.Try whipped cauliflowerin place of mashed pota-toes, or grill slices of itfor a new side dish. Tip:If the bitter taste of rawcauliflower turns you off,try steaming or sauteingfor milder flavor.

3. Sardines.Sardines may not be thefirst fish to come tomind, but they are certainly one of thehealthiest. This petitetreat is a lean source of

protein, rich in Omega-3s, vitamin B12 and vita-min D, making them aheart-healthy snackworth trying. StarKist'snew Gourmet Selects skinless, boneless sar-dine fillets come packedin delicious gourmetsauces. They are greatfor a snack right out ofthe can or a perfect ad-dition to any culinarycreation.

4. Pomegranate.Pomegranates haveoften taken a backseatto other fruits, but these delicious gems pack ar-guably a bigger nutri-tional punch than someof the traditional favor-ites. Not only are theseeds and juice jam-packed with antioxi-dants, but they are also

high in vi-tamin Cand potas-sium, andthe seedsare agreatsource offiber. Tip:Avoid themess bydeseed-ing withthe pome-granatesub-merged in water.

5. Flaxseeds. Asa good source of fiber,omega-3 fatty acids andantioxidants, flaxseedsare often considered nu-tritional powerhouses.Lucky for us, ground ormilled flaxseeds can be

easily mixed into almostany recipe, including ce-real, baked goods, yo-gurt and more. Tip: Ifyou buy whole flax-seeds, grind them rightbefore using to reap allthe nutritional benefits.
