Season Recap It’s safe to say this year has been a success. We finished the year in first place, and proved to the rest of the country we deserved to be there. We left no doubt, we dominated both the reigning champions and also a strong Newcastle team to bring the cup home so Sydney.

It was an incredible journey that I am proud to be a part of. Before the season, I truly believed it was our year. There was a ton of work done in the offseason to piece together what we believed to be a championship team. In years past, many of our games turned into a circus. We would parade to the penalty box and other teams would capitalize on their opportunities. This year was a different environment, we realized we didn’t have to win on intimidation. Instead, we rallied around the skill set of guys like Simon and Punts. Playing with guys of that calibre raises everyone’s game. However, I feel as though our defense deserves the utmost recognition. This group of guys played exceptional all year and I’m really proud of what they accomplished.

Obviously Kimmer was the final piece to the puzzle. Having a guy like him behind us allows us to play with confidence. There were games where we played pretty miserable but came out with a win thanks to him. The three shootout wins proved to be the difference in the end of the year as well. He was without a doubt our biggest acquisition and we can’t wait to have him back next year.

The boys were thrilled to see the growing support from our fan base. Each year you have become louder and more supportive. We appreciate all the love in our home barn, on the road, and also the social media outlets. We were overjoyed to share the cup with you all in Melbourne. This league has so much potential so hopefully the support and fan base continues to grow exponentially. We are always happy to shake hands, sign autographs, and share beers after the games. It’s a humbling experience to walk down the streets in Sydney and see people wearing Ice Dogs merchandise. Please keep representing and help grow Ice Dog nation!

I’d like to take the opportunity to again thank everyone who volunteered their time behind the scenes towards this championship season. There are too many people to name individually and I don’t want to leave anyone out – thanks to all.

It has been an incredible journey with the ideal ending. It is now up to us to defend the title. I’m not satisfied, I want to feel this rush again next season! We will continue to get better in the off-season to prepare for battle. Everyone is going to have the Ice Dogs circled on their calendar and we are up for the challenge.

It is an honour to serve as your captain. I am incredibly proud of everyone involved in this organization. Thank you again.

Dogs then, Dogs now, Dogs win, Dogs plow!! WOOOOO!!

The Goalie’s Nett. -Anthony Kimlin

Great Wall of KimlinOf the many famous quotes from top goaltenders, this one from Ken Dryden is my favorite. “Because the demands on the goalie are mostly mental, it means that for a goalie the biggest enemy is himself. Not a puck, not an opponent, not a quirk of size or style. The stress and anxiety he feels when he plays, the fear of failing, the fear of being embarrassed, the fear of being physically hurt, all symptoms of his position, in constant ebb and flow, but never disappearing. The successful goalie understands these neuroses, accept them, and put them under control. The unsuccessful goalie is distracted by them, his mind in knots. His body quickly follows.” The position is such an influential part of every game. That is why playing goal is fun. Each time you step on the ice you have an opportunity to be great and directly contribute to the team’s success. As Ken Dryden points out it is a high risk and high reward position but again that is where the fun lies. Knowing that every new game is a challenge of your skill, preparation, and metal strength as the last line of defense. What remains to be important is to embrace the challenge and grow every step of the way.

Bruiser BarksOn behalf of my sponsors Active Back Care and myself, I'd like to thank all our wonderful fans that have come to give me a hug, take photos and high fived me throughout the season. It has been a fantastic season and I was soooo happy to be in Melbourne to witness the amazing Ice Dogs convincingly and deservvadly win the 2013 Goodall Cup and be named the 2013 AIHL National Champions.

Also thank you to all those fans that have liked my page and posted comments and photos. Please continue to do so. Don't forget to also become a member of the Official Sydney Ice Dogs Fan Club and join in on the fun activities and help with some fundraising for the Doggies.

I look forward to licking you all in the new 2014 season when we try to go for 2 in a row. Woof Woof.

Our Very own Great Wall.

The 2013 AIHL season with the Ice Dogs was a great one. The team had confidence in each other and it showed on the ice. It was great to be a part of the Ice Dogs community and it was definitely some of the most enjoyable hockey I have ever played. 2014 will be even better as the ice Dogs get even stronger as an organization.

Some Gossip heard of late on the grape

vine is that Bert (Robert Malloy) has just

become an Australian Citizen that’s one

Aussie, one of the past Imports who is now an

Aussie is to return, and a new Aussie is to join

the team in 2014.. . .

So the question is

WHO is making room for the New comers!

????????

Now the Big Question on everybody lips

Is Anthony Kimlin Coming Back to play for the Dogs nextseason ? ?

I only just missed out on an opportunity to go to a game when I was in Nottingham, England a couple of years and developed an interest in it and never expected it to be here.

Having really no idea what to expect from a game of Ice Hockey and only experienced it through watching Mystery, Alaska and the Mighty Ducks movie franchise I was keen to go once I discovered we had it here and check it out when the season started.

The atmosphere before the game from the fans was really catching and set the mood for the game. The national anthem before the puck was dropped was a great touch. Once the puck was dropped the action was insanely fast and crazy loud.

Luckily I sat next someone who had a grasp of the rules and patient enough to explain the basics to me when I asked what was happening.

When I brought my partner to the next game she pretty much found it the same I did, once the game was over her head was spinning and she was asking “what just happened?” We both fell for the game and we each bought Jerseys to show our passion for the game.

We travelled as far as Canberra and I took my brother and his family to a game and our fellow Ice Dogs fans were kind enough to squeeze all 6 of us in. It is definitely an experience worth repeating over and over again.

Possible

We are looking at Having a BBQ at LCC in February/March.

Over December and January we will run an Expression of interest to get an idea of numbers before booking the area, also to see if it would be feasible to hold a Catch up BBQ before “2014 Season Launch.” ( Usually held in late March or Early April.)

We are going to organise for some of the players to be there and perhaps have a Banner painting thing going as well.

If any one has any Ideas just drop us an email at:
