6TH SURAT CITY INTER SCHOOL TABLE TENNIS TEAM TOURNAMENT 2008-09

This tournament was organized by DPS Surat for boys and girls of under 14 and under 19 years age categories on 5-6 February 2009. In under 19 years boys category DPS team A was the winner. The team members were Smit Choksi (IX-B), Abhijeet Choksi (IX-B) and Anirudh Mittal (IX-D). In under 14 years boys category DPS team A was 1st Runner up with Ashwani Mittal (VI-D ), Bhaumail Raskapur (V-C),Yash Kokra (VIII-E) being the participants whereas DPS team B was 2nd Runner up and the participants were Bharg Mehta (V-E), Darshen Sheth (VI-D ), Aayush Jain (VI-A ). In under 14 years girls category DPS team A was 1st Runner up and participants were Snishtha Bhatia (VI-B ), Shradha Katyal (VII-A), Tania Punjabi (VIII-B).

It was an emotional day for all as we bid farewell to the first batch of Dipsites on 7 February 2009. Students of Class XI presented an entertaining cultural programme for their seniors. The programme started on a sombre note but ended with a cheerful mood with lots of hope and best wishes for the seniors.

A highly informative and interactive workshop on Smart Parenting for the 21st century was conducted by Mr.Michael Brearley from U.K on 8 February at Gandhi Smruti Bhawan. The response of the parents was overwhelming as they interacted with Mr. Brearley and found out new ways to have an emotionally stable family.

1ST SURAT CITY INTER SCHOOL DARTS TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP 2008-09

This championship was organized by DPS Surat for boys and girls of under 19 years age category on 7 February 2009. In boys category DPS team A was 2nd Runner up and the participants were Laxman Marothia (X-B) and Rajat Goenka (IX-C). In girls category also, DPS team A was 2nd Runner up and the participants were Hema Premjani (XI-A) and Disha Mehta (XI-A ).

SOUTH GUJARAT OPEN SPEED SKATING CHAMPIONSHIP 2009

This championship was held at Katargam skating rink on 7 and 8 Feb. 2009. Simran Khurana (VI-B) bagged two gold medals in 12-15 years

age category on Inline skates. Rutvik Desai (IV-F) won two bronze medals in 10-12 years age

category on Quads skates. Gourav Gupta (III-H) helped himself to gold and a silver medal in 10-12 years age category on Quads skates. Aditya

Dalal (VI-A) won a bronze medal in 10-12 years age category on Inline skates.

SPORTS AUTHORITY OF GUJARAT STATE SKATING CHAMPIONSHIP

2008-09

This championship was organized by Sports Authority of Gujarat on 25 and 26 February 2009 at Vadodara. Kanika Gupta (VI-D) clinched three gold medals in this championship.

ALL GUJARAT ROLLER-SKATING CHAMPIONSHIP 2009

This championship was organized by Baroda District Roller- Skating Association from 27 February to 1 March 2009. Kanika Gupta (VI-D) won three gold medals and emerged champion in 12-15 years age category. Simran Khurana (VI-B) bagged one silver and two bronze medals in the same category.

M.I. Week (multiple intelligence week) The students of Classes Pre- Nursery to II ended the academic year 2008-09

with aplomb. Multiple Intelligence Week was celebrated from 9th to 13th March. The students took part in various activities related to the concepts

learned throughout the year. The activities were planned in such a way that all the nine intelligences were covered according to their levels. The students

had a wonderful time playing various games. The unconventional way of teaching without books not only increased their grasping powers but also enhanced their retaining power and concept clarity. Some of the activities

were: Class II: Bingo, Crow- crane, Words Antakshri, Enacting stories, hit the can,

Musical arms. Class I: Hit the ball, Musical chair, Memory game, Puzzles

Prep: Mixing Colors, Skip counting with animal masks, Collage work related To Nature, Puzzles, Name-place-animal-thing, Memory game

Nursery: Treasure Hunt, Musical chairs, Shopping Fun, water-play. Pre- Nursery: Tippy tap, Opposites, Jumping with alphabets, Find the place.

INTER HOUSE SALAD DECORATION

COMPETITION Children of classes III to VI from all the four Houses displayed their talents of Salad Making on February 25, 2009. In just forty minutes they crafted delightfully sumptuous salads. The winners are:

VASANT UTSAV The pre-primary section of the school celebrated their Annual Function on 17, 18, 20 and 21 February. On 17 February 2009 students of II-E, F, and G & H presented a show on “Madame Tussauds’ Wax Museum”, highlighting some of our Indian celebrities and their professions. 18 February 2009 saw students of II-A, B, C & D presenting “Today is a Gift” which was about sharing sorrows and pleasures. On 20 February 2009 students of I-A, B, C & D presented “Back to the Future” which depicted how everyone is trying to conquer the future ahead of time.

Students of I-E, F, G & H presented “The Magical Cage” on 21 February 2009. The theme made the children happy as their wishes that were impractical in reality turned true. The flawless performances of the children came as a pleasant surprise not only to the parents, but teachers also, surpassing all expectations. The audience was impressed to witness such seasoned performances from these young ones.
