Can you believe it is already Week 5? It is strange that in one way it has gone so quickly but on the other hand it feels like
I have been a part of CLG for much longer. This is due to the warm welcome I have received from staff, students and
parents from day one. Already I feel very proud and fortunate to be part of this school community and to have the
opportunity to work with such dedicated and skilled staff.
Although originally from country Western Victoria, I come to Colonel Light Gardens PS via the Murraylands and most
recently have held leadership positions in both East Murray Area School and Karoonda Area School with my most recent
roles being Deputy and Student Inclusion Leader. In both contexts I thrived on being
a part of the wider school community and developing really positive working
relationships.
A passion of mine is leading student support and ensuring targeted and
specific learning for individual students as well as liaising with outside
providers and our regional office support staff. As some of you may be
aware, CLG is undergoing some exciting changes for student support and I
am looking forward to implementing these in 2019. My focus will be on a
holistic approach to supporting students to achieve their learning goals.
This will ultimately result in transparent and targeted learning in order
to achieve more specific goals. We are also in the process of
transitioning to the online version of NEPs, which are called One
Plans, which classroom teachers will be responsible for.
Term 1 has therefore been very busy academically but it has
also been about staff getting to know their students and
developing relationships. This has also been a major
focus of mine as I settle in to the new school environment
at CLG. I look forward to meeting more parents and
community members so please do not hesitate in
introducing yourself or contacting me at school.

Dear Parents, carers, students and community friends,
GOVERNING COUNCIL Thank you to all the parents and staff who attended the Annual General Meeting held last Monday February 25th. At that meeting reports were given highlighting the achievements, progress and challenges of our wonderful school. The 2019 Governing Council was constituted. It is very pleasing to have 5 new members nominate for a 2 year term. In the end, we had more nominations than we had positions available, as the constitution allows for a maximum of 12 parent members.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank the members of the 2018 Governing Council who are not continuing on due to work or family commitments or they no longer have children at CLG.
After the AGM the first Governing Council meeting for 2019 was held and office bearers were elected. For your information, below is a list of the 2019 Governing Council with status and tenure indicated.

The dates set for the year 2019 are:
EMAIL ADDRESSES Below is a list of email addresses in alphabetical order for all teachers, leaders, administration, support and canteen staff. These addresses are only for school related matters and should be used as a communication tool on a needs basis. During the work week and during term time, staff check their emails on a daily basis on the days they work and will respond with at least an acknowledgement within 2 school days. Teaching staff do not check their emails during their face to face teaching time.
Although checked daily, not all staff check their emails before school so please do not send absence or urgent information to the class teacher. This information needs to go through the front office to [email protected]
Email addresses cannot be used for commercial purposes and will not be used to replace the school reporting procedures. All correspondence needs to be respectful. Using the Communication book for the younger students and student diaries for older students is still a good option.

YEAR 7-8 TRANSITION / OPEN DAYS & INFORMATION EVENINGS
Distribution of the Year 7 - 8 transition packs to 2019 government school year 7 students is scheduled for Week 11 of Term 1. We have not been made aware of any delay or change to the schedule therefore, all year 7 students will be issued their pack to bring home on the last day of term 1, Friday 12th April. There will be NO issuing of packs earlier than this date. If your child/ren will not be in attendance on that day you may contact the school to arrange either its safe storage until it can be collected or to advise the name of a nominated person who will collect the student pack on your behalf.
Government secondary schools are scheduled to have completed distribution of their School Information Brochure (SIB) to feeder and surrounding primary schools by March 16th 2019. These will be made available to families of year 7 students individually as we receive them via the ‘SENTRAL PORTAL for PARENTS’, they will also published in the school newsletter, also available for download via the ‘SENTRAL PORTAL for PARENTS’.

Kim Boothey PE Teacher
P.E. TERM 1 This year I will be sharing the P.E. teaching role with Natasha Jachmann. I will be teaching classes from Monday to
Thursday and Natasha will teach P.E. on Fridays. My role this year has changed to include coordination of the SAPSASA
portfolio as well as managing the After Hours Sport Program. The focus in PE will continue to develop fundamental
movement skills of your child as well as skill acquisition, team building and fair play.
Please remember there is an expectation for your child to always bring their hat and drink bottle to any PE or sport related
activities and to wear appropriate footwear.
AFTER HOURS SPORT PROGRAM
It has been a very hectic but a rewarding time for me as Manager of the After Hours Schools Sport program. We have
teams participating in the Summer Sports of basketball, cricket and softball this term. A big thank you goes out to
Jennifer Tirrell (basketball), Steven Ashley (softball) and Timothy Fletcher (cricket) who are coordinating these sports
and to the numerous coaches and team managers that make this program work so well.
BASKETBALL UPDATE: I have asked Jan Marie Shaw, whose role has also change to assist the coordination of the
AHS program, to call up each team to find out who has a top and who is still in need of one. As you can appreciate I am
accountable for all equipment including tops. In an effort to retrieve the outstanding quantity of missing basketball tops
and to track their whereabouts in the future we have begun an audit. Please, if you do have one at home from previous
years and your child is not a registered player for the current season, return it asap. If your child/ren is/are registered for
the current season and using a top that was issued in a previous year, please notify by email either Jan Marie at
[email protected] or myself at [email protected] or phone the front office and
leave the students name and the number that is printed on the top as a message. This has been a mammoth task and I’d
like to say a big thank you to Jan Marie who has been coordinating this and to parents/caregivers for understanding the
task’s importance and assisting by responding as soon as you are able.
A BIG REMINDER: registrations are still open for the Winter sports – football, soccer, netball and basketball. Please
go to this link http://www.trybooking.com/ZULZ and register before it closes on Friday 29th of March.
So often games are played during the week and on weekends and no one knows the results. One of my goals this year as
Manager is to look at ways of presenting these results to you all. So please keep watching this space…
SAPSASA SWIMMING CARNIVAL Over the last couple of weeks forms went out to the students who nominated themselves for the Swimming Carnival. The

William H, Drew S and Casper H. Results from the carnival will be in the next newsletter.
SAPSASA TRIALS SAPSASA Trials dates have now been selected, please see table on following page. Students will need to bring the
relevant equipment to the sport on the day. If they do not have any equipment some will be available to use.

ANNUAL FAMILY PICNIC
CANTEEN NEWS
VOLUNTEERS NEEDED AT THE CANTEEN ☕ Monday to Friday 9:00am - 10:00am processing lunch order bags, and any other duties to be done.
☕ Monday to Friday 12.45pm - 1.30pm (or come in earlier) handing out lunch boxes and lunch service.
This is especially required on hot days like we have had this week, where lines have been out the door to the
gazebo, waiting for ice-blocks. Please spare a thought and volunteer at the Canteen. Your kids will love
seeing you there behind the counter. We are a great team to work with and we have good coffee!
NATURE’S NATURAL ICEBLOCKS Have been a massive success, so a big thankyou to parents supporting their children buying these items. It is a great
alternative to the traditional ice-blocks. It has been challenging keeping up with the demand of Frozen Oranges,
Watermelon, Pineapple and Grapes. I will be introducing Frozen Lychees next week and possibly blueberries, to
complete the rainbow of fruits available.
PANCAKE WEEK Pancakes will be available all next week at recess time, limited numbers, to acknowledge
Shrove Tuesday. 50c each.

WHAT’S UP WITH STUDENT VOICE!
GIRL POWER WORKSHOP
Our wonderful SRC Executives this year are: Beth, Keira, Samuel, Angus, Chloe M, Mary, Chloe D and William. So! The first SRC Meeting has been and gone. All the SRC Reps are already amazing at their job and we work well together as a team. The first job our SRC Reps have to do is survey their classes to figure out what jobs are important to the kids at CLG this year - some of the questions are about working together against bullying, doing a few things about the look of our school yard and ways to help those less fortunate. The first job we will be doing this year is putting some big displays on the empty pin boards around the whole school with inspirational quotes and messages on them. We will get all the ideas and suggestions from the classes at our next meeting and begin working on them right away.
Chloe Dowd on behalf of the SRC Executives
