Very good. Please repeat.

O brahmanas, the King’s anger and envy, directed toward the brahmanas, brahmana sages, were unprecedented, being in that circumstances had made him hungry and thirsty.

Purport by Srila Prabhupad: please hear.

For a king like Mahäräja Parikshit to become angry and envious, especially at a sage and brahmana, was undoubtedly unprecedented. The King knew well that brahmanas, sages, children, women and old men are always beyond the jurisdiction of punishment. Similarly, the king, even though he commits a great mistake, is never to be considered a wrongdoer. But in this case, Maharaja Parikshit became angry and envious at the sage due to his thirst and hunger, by the will of the Lord. The King was right to punish his subject for coldly receiving him or neglecting him, but because the culprit was a sage and a brahmana, it was unprecedented. As the Lord is never envious of anyone, so also the Lord’s devotee is never envious of anyone. The only jurisdiction for Maharaja Parikshit’s behavior is that it was ordained by the Lord.

It is beautiful..you know.

This is like a cry, you know it is, since last millions of birth we are separated from Krishna, our mother and if the child is separated from his mother he screams to go back to his mother and however else we try to satisfy him, the child will never be satisfied unless he goes back to mother. This is our condition. Since last millions of birth, we don't know how many millions of birth we have passed and we are completely separated from our own existential source and because of that we cry loudly. (Maharaj sings lovingly) Hare Krishna Hare Krishna Krishna Krishna Hare Hare Hare Rama Hare Rama Rama Rama Hare Hare.

This theistic conduct belief, to believe in Lord Krishna is the perfection of human existence. Those who are fortunate to be born in Bharathiya families or to be connected like you with Bharathiya family, they are extremely lucky, because just by taking birth in that track of land you have a firm belief in the existence of Krishna. We never had any doubt for a single second of our existence that there is no Krishna. This faithlessness is the product of the Kaliyuga the modern age, which is very correctly called as kali means the age of quarrel, misunderstanding and disturbance. If you want to save from Kaliyuga, there is quarrel, misunderstanding and so many other things, we should divert our attention from the material things to the spiritual reality and as soon as our attention is diverted to the spiritual reality whose existence is eternal beyond our conceiving power

Page 3: 1st Canto Chapter 18 text 29 Parikshit cursed by · Web viewTo chant Hare Krishna Hare Krishna Krishna Krishna Hare Hare Hare Ram Hare Ram Ram Ram Hare Hare and by chanting all the

then we stop ourselves to be victimized by these quarrels and misunderstandings of which the Kaliyuga is the main characteristic.

This is the way to save our soul from more degradation. If you quarrel, and behave ill will then your soul is degraded and because this soul is degraded then you have to have millions of births again. We cannot tolerate even one birth, one death or one old age or one disease, how can we tolerate millions of diseases. This is how we should come to this conclusion that whether we understand or not but just open the book and try to read, try to understand the pages of Srimad Bhagavatham and Bhagavad Gita. Don't leave these books for a single second. Every thing else is very impermanent- is very impermanent -- however hard we try to make our life very comfortable that life will be only for 60, 70, 80 years that's all. The curtain is bound to fall. Once the living entity understands this message of Srimad Bhagavatham, then he or she is not interested in the material things, not really very attached just as a matter of duty we do it to maintain our life that's all and then rest of the time has got to be utilized in understanding the scriptures so that this knowledge will give you the firm faith in the existence of the lord. Without the knowledge you will not have the firm faith.

Parikshit Maharaja was a devotee when he was in the womb of his mother Uttara, Ashvattama threw nuclear weapon which will destroy the womb that so very nice sophisticated nuclear weapon Ashvatatama could use and he wanted to destroy Parikshit maharaja in the womb of his mother and at that time Krishna was ready to leave Hasthinapur and go to Dwaraka. When Uttara saw that a fiery weapon is approaching her, she was completely perplexed and she didn't know how to save herself. Then she screamed to Krishna that verse is beautiful.(S.B.1.8.9)

Uttarovaaca

paahi paahi mahaa-yogindeva-deva jagat-patenanyam tvad abhayam pasyeyatra mrytyuh parasparam

Uttarä said: O Lord of lords, Lord of the universe! You are the greatest of mystics. Please protect me, for there is no one else who can save me from the clutches of death in this world of duality.

She did not go to any body else to relieve her from the miseries. (you sit separate. why are you clustering together?. You Sit separately. let me see the face. You man who was singing in the pooja. sit nicely you be relaxed. You don’t worry.you are worried? Are you worried? no then sit nicely. smile.) So this is how Uttara requested that Krishna, please save my embryo. And that time Krishna took the form like a thumb the thumb form and He entered the embryo and protected Parikshit Maharaja in the womb of his mother. So Parikshit Maharaja was a devotee before his birth he was protected by the Lord. We were also all of us were in the womb of our mother and therein the situation was very horrible

Page 4: 1st Canto Chapter 18 text 29 Parikshit cursed by · Web viewTo chant Hare Krishna Hare Krishna Krishna Krishna Hare Hare Hare Ram Hare Ram Ram Ram Hare Hare and by chanting all the

and in that horrible situation we were protected by Krishna otherwise we could not have taken birth. I fail to understand that after undergoing so much miseries in the womb of the mother how we can come out alive. It is impossible. Either the child must die or the mother must die or both must die. It is a very superior miserable situation for both the child and the mother. But even then, Krishna's mercy that we have tolerated those things. The same person doesn't want to go again into the womb of the mother. Any body you are decided your body is decided according to your activities “karmana deiva netrena jantuh” your body is decided by Karmana – by your own activities deiva netrena -- under the supervision of Krishna your next body is going to be decided. If your activities are bad you will have the bad body. As it is we have the worst body. This body is roga mandirm aaturam, full of all diseases and if you don't want to improve your situation then you will glide down to the lower species of life. And then we don't know really how many millions of birth we have to take again to come to the human existence. This human existence is very rare. And once we obtain this existence, then the main duty in this existence is to understand to get used to the spiritual reality not the material reality. What happens because of body is material; we identify ourselves with the material body. And because we identify with our material body, we increase our artificial necessities. And I want this, I want that, if I don't get I will steal, I will break the bank and get money. There are so many things coming into our mind. And these ideas then force us to commit the sinful activities. (B.G.16.12)

aashaa-paasha-shatair baddhaahkaama-krodha-paraayanaahiihante kaama-bhogaarthamanyaayenaartha-sancayaan

They believe that to gratify the senses is the prime necessity of human civilization. Thus until the end of life their anxiety is immeasurable. Bound by a network of hundreds of thousands of desires and absorbed in lust and anger, they secure money by illegal means for sense gratification.

Bhagavad Gita is very clear. “aasaa-paasa-satair baddhaah” if you don't come to Krishna, then you are entangled into so many hopes that I will have Mercedez car I will have this I will have that so many so many just concocted things come into our mind. You have to forget about these concoctions. Whether you have Mercedes car or whether you have a donkey to sit on, it doesn't matter at all. Donkey also takes you from one place to the other place and Mercedes car also takes from one place to the other place. It doesn't matter whether we have a donkey or a car. The work is same. So don't worry about cars or donkeys or houses. If you don't have anything you are very happy. The persons who don't have anything, they are the most happiest persons. We are the most happiest persons. we don't have anything and we are most happy. Nothing to worry about. If you have anything, then we have to preserve it. We have to take care of it you know. If you have a house you have to repair it, you have to paint it, you have to clean it.oh God so many things (laughs). Just to have a good mansion, if you keep a house then you have to carpet it, then the carpets have to be shampooed. Oh God so many things, and who will

Page 5: 1st Canto Chapter 18 text 29 Parikshit cursed by · Web viewTo chant Hare Krishna Hare Krishna Krishna Krishna Hare Hare Hare Ram Hare Ram Ram Ram Hare Hare and by chanting all the

then servants who who. Its for nothing.(laughs). Then one day just our legs go up then our mouth opens and we go out of our compartment.(laughs). No body is going to stay in this compartment. Krishna will stay. This is the wisdom you have done, wise thing you have done that the owner is sitting here. He is the owner. He will remain here. We all will go away and somebody else will come. These children will be there. And they will remember my father was standing near the deities and doing Aarathi. These children will remember that my father and mother used to take me to Katha you know(laughs).one swami was shouting and crying. They will remember this and they will do the same thing. They are going to take over these things. But Krishna will be always here. The children will also become old. Every body the body has to go away. That is definite. These things those who understand, Parikshit Maharaj understood this and he had committed a great offence against the sage which was not befitting his behavior. He was a nice devotee. Devotee never commits the offence. But when these situations arise, then Srila Prabhupad very nicely writes, the only justification for maharaj Parikshit's behaviour is that it was ordained by the Lord. Krishna wished that Parikshit must be angry. Otherwise Parikshit Maharaj would never be angry. And because he was angry, he put that dead snake into the neck of the rshi and then his son who was again brahmana very powerful and mystic, he also became angry and he cursed Parikshit Maharaj. Parikshit Maharaj took that curse as the desire of the Lord. Otherwise being King he could have punished the brahmana and kidnapped the brahmana boy and finished him off. But he didn't do it. He took it as a curse.

And that is why because he took it, then he left immediately. He was the king of the whole planet. We cannot leave our hut what to talk of the planet. We cannot leave anything. The sense of detachment has got to be there. Those who know that this body is going to end, then they are not interested in the material aggrandizement it is known as in English. Aggrandizement. You understand. I want this I want this I want this, everything I want. There was one man he used to go you know as a guest to somebody and suppose the sauce are very beautiful, cup is very beautiful and he had a daughter like Sarita, so Sarita will accompany him (laughs) . In this way he amassed so many things one room, two rooms, so many cups and saucers and plates like this. Where ever he went he just got it. One day he just died and the whole thing which is kept in the rack. This is aggrandizement. We have aggrandizement. This aggrandizement has got to be stopped. Whether you have or not no body is going to take it. Is there anybody in Zimbabwe who can take bundle of dollar notes with him? No there must be somebody. Yes there must be somebody. No.We have money, but where is it? They are not hanging in our hand. If the money would have belonged to you, they would always accompany. But where are the money, there is no money. Is it in the bank or somewhere else? Because they don't belong to you!. That is why they don't accompany you. The things which belongs to us accompany us. Money or houses, we all have the houses, if everybody comes with his house here what will be the position? There won't be any place to sit. This compound will be very small. Because everybody has big house. No the house doesn't belong to us. That is why it is there. Wherever it is, it is there.

So many living entities came to this Marundale or what is its name? Marundale nice name. whole planet should be known as Marundale (laughs). So many houses are here.

Page 6: 1st Canto Chapter 18 text 29 Parikshit cursed by · Web viewTo chant Hare Krishna Hare Krishna Krishna Krishna Hare Hare Hare Ram Hare Ram Ram Ram Hare Hare and by chanting all the

So many farms are here around. So much land is here. Everybody and the living entities always came here. They claimed that this house belongs to me. And all those living entities have gone and the houses are here and the farms are here. Nobody takes the houses or farms with him or her. Because it is the property of Krishna. You cannot touch. You can come in the compound and use it sit here and pay obeisances in the temple and you go away. This property doesn't belong to you. That's why you cannot touch it. The property which doesn't belong to us we cannot touch it. At the best you can use it. You can sit here nicely and be comfortable here, but nothing belong to us. That sense is very clear because nothing belongs to us in this compartment. Everything belongs to Harsha prabhu, so we have to please him in order to come inside. And if he is not pleased there are four dogs (laughs) and the big padlock at the door, you want to open the padlock lock. And if you break the bed lock then the police will come. Krishna also gets upset when we claim that this property is mine. Because it is His.So He says alright this house is yours. Then He says house is yours isn't it then pay the taxes. And the man pays the taxes. The house is yours, yes, pay the electricity bills. And we have to pay the electricity bills. The He says this house is yours, yes, pay the water bill. And one day He kicks us out and takes His property back (laughs). At the time of death, He kicks us out, get out and then we are buried or cremated whatever it is and the property is taken back by Him. This is the main thing. Parikshit maharaja understood these things, and because he understood these things he was a sane person he was intelligent person. Yesterday we saw budha intelligent persons they always know that the Krishna is the source of every thing and everything is coming from Krishna. Nothing is coming from us. And that is why nothing belongs to us. That is why we behave all the good qualities there. We don't have any bad quality. Because the foundation of our existence is very sound, very concrete foundation and as soon as you come to this knowledge then whole of your life becomes very sublime very pure and as soon as the life is pure, then you can understand the pages of Srimad Bhagavatham and then you can do every thing. Otherwise everything is chalaachalam

chalath chittham chalath vittham chalath jeevana yauvanamchalaachalam idam sarvam bhakthir yasya sa jivathi.

Our mind is flickering, our wealth is flickering, our own life and youth are also a passing phase. There is steadiness and eternity only in devotional service.

Beautiful four lines you know. He says in the first line chalath chittham - our mind is flickering, you know sometimes we want to go to the market, sometimes we want to go to the supermarket, sometimes we want to steal something, someone we want to kill somebody. This is flickering mind. Sometimes the mind doesn't wake up at all. He wants to sleep for the whole day. Sometimes he doesn't want to change the clothes, he wants to put the same dirty cloth, sometimes the mind doesn't allow us to take bath. No shower finish he will not get up at all. No water at all. No I don't to want to touch it at all. This is flickering. You don't know what to do, that is known as chalath chittham. chalath vittham, if you have money it is also flickering. Money also goes away, if it is not used for Krishna it also goes away that's all finish. Then chalath chittam chalath vittham chalath jeevana yauvanam, our life is also very temporary. Today it is there, after a

second what will happen we don't know. Heart attack and goes away. Accident and goes away. Or something happens and goes away. .It is jeevana flickering completely flickering. Yauvanam, the youth is also completely flickering. How many years we are going to be young, the time is passing on. All these things are very flickering. Very flickering. chalath chittham chalath vittham chalath jeevana yauvanam chalaachalam idam sarvam all these things are completely changing. By nature it is changing. You had a two year body, where is that body? Where is that body? You had a five year body, where is that body? You had a ten year old body, where is that body? You had mother and father with you, where are they? You were staying in some village, where is that village, you were going to some school, where is that school? You attended some college, you stayed in the city, where is that city and where is that college? Then you had marriage, or you arel married this is also flickering everything going away. The children are growing up, and as soon as the children grow up they will kick you out. Finish papa you go get out. This is chalaachalam, everything is chalaachalam. Every thing change everything changes. We cannot keep anything as it is. This stool was created at the moment it is used nicely and the time will come it will be completely useless. And it won't be repaired. It will be destroyed. These are nature of the material things. And those who understand this, instead of cultivating any bad habits, they come to the goodness and as soon as you come to the goodness side then your life becomes worth living. Otherwise your life will become completely degraded..mogham partha sa jeevati. And to come to this side and the best way is to continuously chant Hare Krishna Hare Krishna Krishna Krishna Hare Hare Hare Rama Hare Rama Rama Rama Hare Hare.

He is known as sarva karana karanam the cause of all causes. And then he empowers somebody to do this. Ashok owns the bus; he empowers the driver to run the bus. So driver is running the bus. He empoweres the conductor to collect the money from the people. And conductor is collecting the money from the people. But the main desire is Ashok's desire. Otherwise the driver and the conductor cannot do anything. Unless he empowers, unless the Lord empowers, even Brahma cannot create. And when Brahma was asked to create, then Brahma also prays to Krishna that please I must not be proud that I am creating. I must always remember that the original creator are You and this is how we also should remember, whatever work we are doing we can't do.

prakrteh kriyamaanaani gunaih karmaani sarvasahahankaara-vimuudhaatmaa kartaaham iti manyate

It is beautiful in Bagavad Gita (B.G.3.27)

The spirit soul bewildered by the influence of false ego thinks him self the doer of activities that are in actuality carried out by the three modes of material nature.

Page 8: 1st Canto Chapter 18 text 29 Parikshit cursed by · Web viewTo chant Hare Krishna Hare Krishna Krishna Krishna Hare Hare Hare Ram Hare Ram Ram Ram Hare Hare and by chanting all the

This is beautiful Bhagavad Gita. prakrteh kriyamaanaani everything is going on according to the prakriti. Before our birth this material manifestation was going on. All the shops were open. Businesses were going on and we were not here. We are born and everything is going on. And we will die one day and everything will go on. Nothing stops. There are so many shops in Marundale or Harare or everywhere, have you seen any time the shop closed because there is nobody to open. No. One goes another sits. We wait he dies so we can sit. This is how nothing stops in this material world. But one thing definitely stops. And that is our life.our existence. And we have to be very unflinchingly attached to the supreme vidhaata param Krishna. And then understand that all these Brahma, Shiva or any other demigods, they are the officers of Krishna. And the officers are only there till the concern is there. Till the transport company is there, the driver is there, the conductor is there, every body is there. If the transport company goes bankrupt how can the driver be there. What can conductor do there? Till the company is there they have the value. As soon as the company goes away, as soon as the material manifestation is annihilated, there is no work for Brahma, there is no work for Shiva there is no work for Varuna Indra everybody. They are all gone but Krishna always remains. It is very nicely said in Srimad Bhagavatam,

aham evaasam evaagrenaanyad yat sad-asat parampashcaad aham yad etac cayo avashishyeta so ’smy aham (2.9.33)

aham evaasam evaagre I was there before this creation. With this creation I am here. And ater the creation also I will be here. This is the permanent existence. You please get attached to permanent existence and don't sleep. That dothi man is sleeping.(laughs). Hare Krishna. Anything else. Jai Srila Prabhupada.

Tape 13 Part C

Otherwise mere knowledge is a dangerous thing and it has no use at all. Suppose we know that early to bed and early to rise is the way to be happy, healthy wealthy and wise. Have you heard this, do you know this? We know this is the knowledge. But unless you put into practice, unless you go to bed early, and unless you wake up early, you will not have any effect on your health. If you want to improve the quality of your life, which has got to be improved, then you have to follow the knowledge and put into practice. Then knowledge becomes realized knowledge. Knowledge is known in Sanskrit as jnan. Mere jnan has no value unless it becomes the realized knowledge, which is known as vigjnan. All these principles which are enunciated in Bhagavad Gita, if they are put into practice very seriously according to the instructions of Srila Prabhupad, then your life must change for good. You people are lucky, your country is beautiful. Everything is produced here. There is no need of misery at all. We are miserable because of our own karmas. Because of our own activities, we become miserable and we go away and away from

Page 9: 1st Canto Chapter 18 text 29 Parikshit cursed by · Web viewTo chant Hare Krishna Hare Krishna Krishna Krishna Hare Hare Hare Ram Hare Ram Ram Ram Hare Hare and by chanting all the

Lord God Krishna. If you go away from Krishna the misery will increase. If you go near Krishna through following His instructions, then you become very happy. There is no need of misery in our life. One thing we have to understand that we may decide that we may have to study and we have to put into practice, but we don't know how to put into practice or from where to begin. There are so many books and so many lectures you hear but we are in loss t how to begin. We all want to begin something. But we are at loss. So that is why the discussions of the scriptures, connection with the practical life has got to be completely clearly understood. And in the morning we understood one verse from the Vedas and that verse you should learn all of you so that you remember to put those three things into practice so that we can study Bhagavad Gita very attentively. Again we will repeat. The verse is like this,(raise your hands who were here in the morning, oh quite many. Yes do you know the verse, Sheethal you know the meaning? Who can give me the meaning? Anybody in the morning we discussed. Yes first thing what we remembered. Ya one raise your hands so that… yes yes the first thing to be remembered) (one devotee answered.) Yes all ladies except our wife is to be regarded as our mother. In Sanskrit it is very easy to remember

matruvad paradaaresu paradravyesu lostravadaatmavad sarvebhutesu yevastathi sa panditah

matruvad paradaresu all the Mathajis except our wife is to be regarded as the mother. This is the first thing to be put into practice. Our eyes should be completely clean. We can have only one wife. If we cannot afford to have more dogs and cats they move about and they have more illicit connection. We human beings being in a higher consciousness this is the first instruction of Bhagavad Gita. That matruvad paradaresu all the Mathajis is to be regarded as mother. Then the question will come. If there is a small girl, then how can we regard her as a mother, or if she is equal of our age how can we regard as our mother? So there is a answer to it. With the Mathajis we have four relationships and Mathajis also have with men four relationships. You please understand this four relationships with ladies. The first relationship is that our mother is also a woman. And very pure relationship. There is no inebriety at all. the son goes to the mother and talks freely, it doesn't matter. The very pure relationship. So our mother is a women, then our sister is also a woman. Brother goes to the sister, sister comes to the brother, they talk very freely, doesn't matter at all. Very nice relationship. The third relationship is, our daughters are women, daughter comes to the dad, she sits talks, and there is no dirty relationship at all. And we can have only one wife, and as I told you in the morning that she is known as in Sanskrit in the Bhagavatam as dharma pathni. In order to perform the devotional service of the Lord, she helps us or he helps her that is how it goes. It is not only for enjoyment. This is barbarous. If we try to enjoy everywhere, there is no difference between the dog life and our life and that is why this principle has got to be put into practice. matruvad paradaresu all women, we must regard as mothers, sisters or daughters.

Once we understand this we come to the second thing. And which is that, you remember in the morning, second thing we remembered yes, yes other people's property yes it is

Page 10: 1st Canto Chapter 18 text 29 Parikshit cursed by · Web viewTo chant Hare Krishna Hare Krishna Krishna Krishna Hare Hare Hare Ram Hare Ram Ram Ram Hare Hare and by chanting all the

what? bag of stool. That's right. Do you touch bag of stool? If it is a big bag, could you take the bag of stool? No big or small we don't touch. That is the second thing. lostravad paradravyesu lostravad like iron paradravyesu others money. Others property are completely useless for us. We should never touch it. And this is a very great principle. If some of you or all of you put this into practice and stop thieving and I will guarantee you that you will be the big manager of the concern. If you are honest person, your boss will appoint you as a manager because he will be completely satisfied that my manager is very honest. Where are the honest people in the world? They are lacking. If you become honest this group becomes 100% honest. I guarantee you this quality of your life will improve. By thieving ways your quality of life is decreasing. Everybody hates you. Every body says that he is a thief, a thief. He is condemned. Instead you become the honest person and you will be respected. As it is I am seeing since morning that your boss respects you. So if you become really honest and very faithful to him, I will guarantee you that definitely next time I come, you will have a nice position with him. He has so many other things to do. SO if he can give you one part of his responsibility and be at it,, he will be very pleased. And anywhere you go honesty will pay you. This is the second principle to be put into practice. No thieving at all. No don't touch others property at all. lostavad paradravyesu, paradravyesu others riches are completely useless for us. If I have got ten dollars with me, that is more than million dollars of others. That is how we should think. Whatever we have, we should be completely satisfied. This is the second principle we discussed in the morning.

And then the third one is the higher nice higher than this. Very good you remember that. Third one yes yes, you know, what's your name. you were not in the morning? oh. Yes anybody. Third one yes. pardon. Treat.... ah you are nearing. Treat everybody as you treat yourself. aatmavad sarvabhutesu. aatmavat means like yours. If I am hungry how nice I feel like eating. So it should be put in everybody. Why we are distributing, because we are treating every living entity as our selves. As I like to eat, everybody likes to eat. And this is how we treat everybody equally. If you follow these three things, then your life will be successful in the material atmosphere as well as you will be completely free one to carry spiritual activities and study Bhagavad Gita. Unless you clear your life, unless you make it very honest without any illicit sex connection and respectful to all the living entities, if you put these three things into practice, then you can study Bhagavad Gita otherwise you cannot study Bhagavad Gita. In order to study Bhagavad Gita, in order to study the Vedic scriptures, which are the perfection of the human existence, we must be in the mode of goodness. By theiving we cannot be in the mode of goodness. By illicit connection with the women, we cannot be in the mode of goodness. And by treating others lower than us, we cannot be in the mode of goodness. This is how these three principles are the main education principles for all the misdirected civilization which we are already in unfortunately. Our civilization is completely misdirected because it is a godless civilization. Disparity in the human society is due to the lack of religious principles in this godless society. The society has become godless. There is no god in the society. That is why there is disparity. This disparity of the human society has got to be removed. This is the thing to be understood. And as soon as we follow these three religious principles, then it is very easy for you to understand Bhagavad Gita. And then as soon as you come to Bhagavad Gita, then we must understand the name of the

scriptures. This is the best scriptures. Preliminary Scriptures. It is a Ocean of knowledge. As soon as you come to the name Bhagavad Gita, Bhagavad means the Supreme absolute truth, Krishna and Gita means songs sung by Him. This is the song sung by the Supreme absolute truth Krishna. And I told you t there is no difference Him and this song. And that is why as soon as we hear verses from Him, as soon as we study the verses from Bhagavad Gita, it is non- different from Krishna. We feel the presence of Krishna and that is why it is the tradition in the Vedic family to recite the chapters of this Bhagavad Gita so that you can have the association of Krishna. In order to have the association of Krishna, Srila prabhupad and Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu has very kindly given us the Mahamantra Hare Krishna Hare Krishna Krishna Krishna Hare Hare Hare Ram Hare Ram Ram Ram Hare Hare. If you continuously chant, you will have the association of Krishna. When you feel like stealing something, you immediately check yourself and chan Hare Krishna Hare Krishna Krishna Krishna Hare Hare Hare ram Hare Ram Ram Ram Hare Hare. As soon as your mind goes to some illicit connection, then say Hare Krishna Hare Krishna Krishna Krishna Hare Hare Hare Ram Hare Ram Ram Ram Hare Hare. This is how we should check ourselves. We are bound to go in the lower modes and that is why we need to check

These big personalities, Supreme Lord himself and the Gurus and saints and sages have given us a very simple and very easy weapon. It is not difficult at all. You may not remember the verses but you can remember Mahamantra many times provided you take help of the Mahamantra you will never do anything wrong in your life. This is the knowledge and this is how these scriptures are very intimately connected with our day to day life. With this we must come to one verse today we are discussing 4 verses outof that we will see the one verse it is B.G. 10.8. You don't have Bhagavad Gitas with you. Marundale Marundale nice name. Marundale means everybody dies. (laughs) This whole planet should be known as Marundale. This thing you please - this story you remember this example you remember so that you will always know the importance of the appearance of Krishna and how He appears. You know in Marundale, this Marundale town there must be a prison. Is there prison house Arjun? Where is Arjun? Do you know where there is prison house? You know that there is. Nice. So prison house is there and who are staying in the prison. Who stay in the prison? Us, no. We can't stay. We are sitting in the temple. Prisoners that's right. Who said us? Come on raise your hand. Raise your hand. Oh same man. (laughs) you cannot be in the prison. If you break the law then you are in the prison. So prisoners stay there in the prison. But there is a prison officer also. He also goes into the prison. But there is a difference; prisoners are bound by the laws of the prison. They have to be locked. They have to be opened at certain time. Then they again have to be locked. They have to remain there for the time of the punishment. These are the prisoners. But the prison officer goes into the prison at his own will. And he if you behave all right, as a prisoner he may reduce your punishment. And he may release you also. And he comes out of the prison at his own will. Because he is not governed by the laws of prison. The same way, Krishna behaves like a prison officer. This is a big prison we are in and we are all governed by the material laws. And there are four material laws. You have to take birth, you have to die, you have to become old, and you have to become sick. janma mrityu jara vyadi. These are the four rules we are affected by. Nobody escapes. Is there any Zimbabway who can escape the death? No.

There is somebody I think. Because every body does't tell no. No. There is somebody who doesn't die? No, no, everybody has to keep that appointment. The end appointment we cannot miss. We may miss all the appointments, but the end appointment we have to keep. This is the law, but Krishna does not have to be born, He doesn't die. He doesn't become old or He doesn't become sick because He is not governed by these laws. He comes to this place at His own will and He disappears from this place at His own will like the prison officer. With this we must come to the description of Krishna through Bhagavad Gita and try to understand this verse first. This is 10.8. You know 10th chapter verse number 8. Please remember and you have to learn this verse. Everybody has to sing this verse after we explain it. So please be careful to hear this verse.

Om Namo Bhagavate Vasudevaya

Now there are four lines in this verse. The meaning of this verse and this is the philosophy of Bhagavad Gita. Krishna is giving the philosophy. And then the translation is very easy. Please repeat after me. I am the source of all material and spiritual planets. Everything emanates from Me. The wise who perfectly know this engage in My devotional service and worship Me with all their hearts. The same meaning you know. Is it clear? Now repeat after me.

aham sarvasya prabhavo mattah sarvam pravartate iti matva bhajante maam bhuda bhaava samanvitah

If you are working in the shop, then this knowledge should come out, this sound should come out of your shop. If you are running in the buses, this sound should come out of your buses. And people will be pleased, more customers will come. Eh what are you singing? They will be attracted to you. You will be more honest, honest and honest and as soon as the honesty is there your life will be completely changed. You will become big bosses. If you steal you will remain same. You will be sacked. This is the thing. This is very clear, very clear. If you learn Bhagavad Gita, we must be very honest in our dealings. Unless we are honest in our dealings, we are afraid always you know. You know better than me. Suppose if I want to steal this then I will be afraid always to stay in the house. I cannot stay in the house. If I am a thief I cannot stay in the house. I am staying in the house because I am not a thief. Ashok knows that whatever happens, Maharaj will not steal anything. (laughs) If he sees me thieve next day Maharaj I am sorry my wife want this room.t (laughs), So this is how if we are honest, you will be respected, if you are dishonest you will chucked out. And Krishna will chuck you out from this planet. Because He also doesn't like that. He is known as butter thief. He steals butter. But if you steal butter from the super market, what will happen to you.(laughs) You cannot tell that Krishna also a thief and I am also a thief. No no you will be behind the bars.(laughs) And Krishna is glorified. So we should not copy Krishna. We should hear what he tells. And He tells

beautiful next verse it is behaviour of the devotees beware of the behaviour of the devotees is described in 10.9 10th chapter verse number 9 all other things that I told you are completely useless this fashion that fashion these clothes are to be brought that is to be brought, this is to be brought is completely useless. This fashion has completely no meaning at all. This is mad man's job. You know there was one monkey, you know monkey. Monkey's try to copy you know? What we do they want to do? So there was one forest you know. In the forest there were monkeys on the tree. And in former ages there were no machine. So the woodcutters they used to go to the forest, they cut the trunk of the tree big wood and they will saw the wood, you know in the forest by manual saw. There was no machine. So what happens the two people will go and then stand there ah, they stand there and there were two people who will catch the saw and they move the saw inside you know inside like that. And when they move the saw the wood will be cut. So one day the wood cutters were cutting the wood you know like this. So monkeys saw that. And then in the evening the wood was not finished. So the woodcutters wanted to leave. So what do they did. They put the splinter into the cut wood. You know so that the wood may not come again. SO they put splinter to divide the wood. And they put the splinter and because of the splinter there was a big gap in the wood and they went away. So next day they come again and put the saw and then remove the splinter. This is how they did. So what happened that when the wood cutters went away home two monkeys came down and one monkey sat on the wood you know and there was a gap in the splinter you know, there was a gap in the wood. So the monkeys tail went through the gap. The monkeys were sitting on the wood. And the other monkeys were trying to copy the woodcutters. So what happened was the foolish monkey who was sitting on the wood, he removed the splinter, and once he removed the splinter, both the parts came together and its tail was got into it. The monkey was completely in difficulty because the tail was stuck into it. He was in a pain you know and seeing this, other monkeys ran away. But this one could not run away because his tail was completely in the wood got so he tried hard to move its tail was cut. Instead of 7 feet tail he had only 6 inches tail now. So he went to the other group of the monkeys, the other group of the monkeys thought that this is a fashion, so they cut their tails (laughs). So this is how we do. When we see somebody doing something then we think it is necessary something and we do like that (laughs). See instead of doing this madness, just put on a simple dress forget about the artificial increasing of the artificial necessities and you are alright in the simple life you are very good you be simple and be satisfied in your earning and then try to concentrate on this verses of Bhagavad Gita. And Krishna will give you the intelligence to nicely understand these verses. This is very easy provided we try to do the labor. Everything is ready in Prabhupada’s books. He used to get up 1 am daily to translate these books and each word he has given the equivalents. Please come to this and Krishna will help you. Hare Krsna have you anything to ask? Are there any questions.

Yes. Oh so many questions are there. Jai it is very nice, very nice place you are in Ashok it’s very beautiful. Congratulations to you. You all of you should be thankful to Ashok

for this place you know. And not only the place but in his house he has constructed a nice temple. And he hankered for that and otherwise I would have not come really. Because he insisted to come here and I am very pleased. I would have missed so many so much if I would have not come here. Now every time we are in this area, we will make it a point to come. But the thing is you please take it very seriously. Don't think it is a play thing. He is trying very hard in his own so assist him to the best of your ability and Krishna will be pleased. (A devotee questions what is the role of ISKCON)

To chant Hare Krishna Hare Krishna Krishna Krishna Hare Hare Hare Ram Hare Ram Ram Ram Hare Hare and by chanting all the living entities souls they will try to understand that you are a very tiny soul and Krishna is the supreme soul. So the tiny part has to love the supreme part. And this is the role of ISKCON.

To claim the living entities, who are away from Krishna to bring them back to Krishna and by bringing back to Krishna the living entities will develop a nice quality. The quality of the human existence will completely improve. And this is because of this ISKCON, is popular all over the world. Where Srila Prabhupad in 1965, he left Vrindavan and went to New York, that time he was all alone. He did not have any money also with him only three dollars. He did not know anybody. He had to struggle on his own. But because he had unflinching faith in the names of the Lord and Lord Himself and he was very sincere to be friendly to all the living entities and he knew that it is his duty to claim these living entities and bring them back to God so that at the moment the living entities are behaving in the mode of ignorance eating fish meat and eggs, having illicit connections, playing gambling, intoxicating all these are the mode of ignorance activities. He wanted these living entities should wake up and know that this human existence is very rare. And it is not meant for eating anything but Krishna Prasad. And Krishna asks vegetarian food and clean water in Bhagavad GIta. He asks four things patram pushpam palam toyam. And he has opened our eyes. We were all completely in ignorance. He forced open our eyes. And he pealed our ears and he told rascals what you are doing. The things what we are doing is not the duty of human existence. But he said that the human existence should be intoxicated by the devotional activities of Krishna. We are also intoxicating, but we are not drinking dirty water. If you want to drink dirty water then there is no need of paying so much money. You go to gutter and there is plenty of dirty water there. You come to bathroom when you take shower, you drink the whole thing. This is, why should you go and pay money there and break each other’s head. It is pubs it is nothing to do, but you fight with each other. You fight in your family, you kill your children and you kill the cows, you kill the goats, you kill the chicken and put the same dead body into your stomach. What the dead bodies are buried into the cemetery. Why your stomach becomes the cemetery? Is your stomach the cemetery? No, if it is not cemetery, then why are putting the dead bodies inside. This is the lunacy madness and he wanted to wake us up from this madness. And you few living entities, you have great responsibility on your shoulders. You please try to understand this ISKCON movementand try to pick up your own, your own people , they are miserable because they don't know this. if they just start chanting in the beginning Hare Krishna Hare Krishna Krishna Krishna Hare Hare Hare Ram Hare Ram Ram Ram Hare Hare, you please save yourself

Page 15: 1st Canto Chapter 18 text 29 Parikshit cursed by · Web viewTo chant Hare Krishna Hare Krishna Krishna Krishna Hare Hare Hare Ram Hare Ram Ram Ram Hare Hare and by chanting all the

first, make your life clean, honest, nice Prasadam, your boss is very kind to you to give Krishna Prasad. Please stop this lunacy and pick up your own people, your own community is suffering in such a beautiful country why the people should suffer, but our are activities are very bad. In Bhagavatam it is very nicely said

sri-bhagavaan uvaca

karmanaa jaayate jantuhkarmanaiva praliyatesukham duhkham bhayam ksemamkarmanaivabhipadyate (10.24.13)

Beautiful verse you know. Karmanaa jaayate jantuh, karmanaa by your own activities you take the birth. This body is not accident by our own activities we have got this lump of ignorance. Karmanaa eva praliyate by your own activities you die. Sukham duhkham bhayam ksemam sukham happiness duhkham misery bhayam fear and ksemam sense of security. Karmanaibhavipadyate it is all because of our activity. Please purify your activity. You first purify your activities and pick up your community. Why they should be miserable in such a beautiful country. Lord has given so many nice water so many nice lakes, so many falls, so many nice lands. Everybody should be very happy here. There is no need of misery. But if you remain Godless, then you are going to be unhappy. Because Godless people will always be attracted to the sinful activities. That is the role of ISKCON. Very nice question you have asked.

Another devotee asks: What is the reason for wearing neck beads.

Maharaj says: Nice nice.

Our neck is a very small thing you know, it’s hardly few inches around. But this is a very important organ of our body. Whatever we eat there is s food pipe going through the neck going to our stomach, and then whatever we breathe there is an air pipe going to the lungs. These two pipes are very important for our survival. And then there is a fine membrane in the throat by which I vibrate when I talk. We communicate with each other with this membrane. If you put the finger here you will see the vibration when we speak. This speaking is very important for our survival. If you don't speak then we cannot convey our ideas to others, we cannot imbibe. That is why this part and apart from this, there is a neck spine which goes to the head, and head is the controller of the whole body and all the tissues and all the nerves, millions of nerves from the head go through that spinal cord through the neck to the spine up to the lumber and the whole body is controlled by these tissues. You touch me anywhere and if you take your hand I know somebody is touching. This is the sensation going through the neck again. So this neck is very important place and this neck has got up to be purified. Neck beads we have todaye. We are chanting on the neck beads and they are transcendental now. Because they have the association of Krishna and as soon as the neck beads become transcendental, then those transcendental neck beads will purify your all these things. Until you are staying in

this body these parts will not go bad. Otherwise they go bad. I am not young but even now you heard my voice singing also it does not churn otherwise in old age the voice vibrates it churns in but you can see I am not proud of it but because we have devoted ourselves to Krishna, somehow or the other He has kept our voice intact so far. This is how the neck beads improve the quality you may have to use neck beads like this or may tight like this doesn't matter.
