JOB DESCRIPTION: Research and Evaluation Officer (Change that Lasts)

Reports to National Impact and Evaluation Officer

DUTIES AND KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

1. To coordinate and collect, analyse, report on and support the effective use of quantitative and qualitative data for the purposes of evaluating Women’s Aid’s flagship programme, Change that Lasts.

1. To work with the National Impact and Evaluation Officer, the wider Research and Evaluation team and the Change that Lasts team to coordinate data collection for Change that Lasts.

2. To support the Change that Lasts delivery team to collect, input, clean, analyse and use data effectively to inform practice.

3. To support external evaluators to collect, input, clean, analyse and transfer data for the evaluation of Change that Lasts.

4. To support the use of Women’s Aid’s outcome monitoring and case management system On Track for evaluating Change that Lasts. This includes cleaning, analysing, reporting on data and working with Change that Lasts frontline pilot services to support them to use the system effectively for Change that Lasts data collection.

5. To develop survey, interview and focus group questions.

6. To analyse qualitative and quantitative data.

7. To carry out interviews and focus groups.

2. General Responsibilities

PERSON SPECIFICATION: Research and Evaluation Officer

EXPERIENCEEssential: Experience of conducting quantitative research, including collecting, inputting,

cleaning, analysing and supporting the effective use of data. Experience of conducting statistical analyses of large datasets using Microsoft

Excel. Experience of using databases.

Experience of conducting qualitative research, including carrying out thematic analyses.

Experience of developing evaluation tools for quantitative and qualitative research methods, such as surveys, interviews and/or focus groups.

Desirable: Experience of using and disseminating research findings to a variety of

audiences, to inform practice and facilitate learning. Experience of designing research. Experience of designing and developing databases. Experience of working in partnership. Experience of presenting research findings.

SKILLS & ABILITIESEssential:

A non-judgmental approach to survivors of domestic and sexual abuse and a clear understanding of the gendered nature of violence against women and girls.

Good research skills, including the ability to effectively analyse and use quantitative and qualitative data.

Proficient in the use of Excel to analyse large datasets. Proven IT skills, including the use of Microsoft Office. Ability to analyse complex information and identify the implications for women and

children affected by gender-based violence and services supporting them. Highly computer literate and proficient in word-processing, spreadsheets,

databases, data collection systems, email and website technology, preferably in a Windows based environment.

Ability to work on own initiative and support the wider team to meet objectives in a complex, changing environment.

Good writing skills for the production of reports and briefing papers. Attention to detail.

Desirable Ability to work in partnership with a wide range of people and organisations. Good communication skills including the ability to communicate complex

information to a range of audiences.

KNOWLEDGEEssential: A good knowledge and understanding of quantitative and qualitative research

methods. A good understanding of how to implement research including how to collect and

coordinate research. A good knowledge of types of quantitative and qualitative data analysis. Knowledge of how to effectively communicate research and support teams to

collect, and implement data.

A thorough understanding of domestic violence, its impacts on women and children, and the context in which domestic violence services work.

Desirable A good knowledge of how to design research and evaluation. Knowledge of effective dissemination and learning strategies. A good knowledge and understanding of structural oppressions and intersectional

feminism.

EDUCATION/TRAINING No formal education or training required.

OTHER REQUIREMENTSEssential:

SUMMARY OF TERMS AND CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

Terms of appointment: Confirmation of appointment will be subject to the satisfactory completion of a probationary period. This will normally be of six months (less for short term contracts). During this time an employee will be expected to establish their suitability for the post. During the probationary period employment may be terminated in writing, giving one week's notice by either party (this may be waived by mutual agreement). Only any statutory dismissal procedure will apply during the probationary period. There is no probationary period for contracts of under 3 months.

Salary: £25,346 - £28,549 pro rata plus Inner London Weighting (On an incremental scale guided by the NJC Local authority pay scale points 29 – 33) + benefits. Salary is paid in arrears through bank credit by the 25th of each month. Part time staff receive pro-rata payment based on hours worked.

Working hours: The standard working hours for this post are 22.2 to 37 hours per week (negotiable), benefits include a generous bank holidays and annual leave package and contributory pension scheme.

Support and supervision: Women’s Aid has a commitment to providing regular supervision and support to staff with annual appraisals forming a key part of staff development. We have a training policy in place and encourage staff to take an active role in their career development plan. Pension: Women’s Aid is enrolled with the People’s Pension scheme. Women’s Aid normally contributes 7% of salary and the employee contributes 3% towards the group pension scheme. Eligible staff will be automatically enrolled on the scheme when they have successfully completed the 3 month interim probationary review. .

Annual Leave: Women’s Aid offers an annual leave entitlement of 25 days per year rising by one day per year until 30 days annual leave per year is reached. In addition, we offer 8 days public holidays plus 2 additional days in March and August. All leave entitlement is calculated pro-rata for part time employees.

Other leave: Employees have contractual rights to time off for reasons of sickness, maternity and other circumstances.

Period of notice: 1 month after your probationary period has been completed.

Union: You have a right to membership of a trade union. Women’s Aid recognises Unison.

Asylum and Immigration Act 1996: To confirm your right to work in the UK, Women’s Aid will need to see the original of at least one document from a specified list (available on the gov.uk website). Most commonly this is a British Passport.
