Check List for Liquid Starter
IMPORTANT NOTICE: This Check List has to be filled-in before commissioning and must then be returned to the above mentioned address!
REQUIREMENT: Fill-in of check list and commissioning of the starter should be done only by qualified personnel!
REMARKS: 1. Do not fill-up the starter with electrolyte and do not connect the rotor cables with the corresponding terminals K, L and M before checking the starter.
2. Fill-up the starter and attach the rotor and control cables according to the „INSTALLATION, OPERATING AND MAINTENANCE INSTRUCTIONS“!
3. Make sure, that the first start will be executed at minimum load from the driven machine.
All instructions in the check list framed like this should be executed as described in the„INSTALLATION, OPERATING AND MAINTENANCE INSTRUCTIONS“!

1. Measuring Insulation Resistance
Measuring insulation resistance between the 3 rotor cable connection terminals K, L, M and theearthing point. The measured value should be higher than 10 MΩΩΩΩ (minimum is 2000 Ω / V, related tothe rotor standstill voltage u20).

• Connect the rotor cables and the earthing cable to the corresponding terminals.• Remove the top cover(s) of the starter.• Remove all inner covers (013/014/015-series) and remove, if there is any, corrosion protection
material inside the electrolyte tank (BRANOrost-Chip).• In case of movable electrodes are standing in the lower end position, take the hand-crank and lift
the electrodes to the upper end position by using the emergency hand drive.
2. General Test Procedure
2.1. Have all mechanical and electrical safety regulation and other laws that are in force at site been observed? YES
2.2. Have rotor and earthing cables been connected? YES
2.3. Testing of thermostat settings:
- B5 should be set to 5°C YES or- B3 should be set to 85°C YES or- B6 (if installed) should be set to 75°C for temperature alarm YES
2.4. Have you found any deformations or destruction’s of built-inmechanical or electrical components during a visual inspection? YES NO
If the answer is YES immediately contact Elektroschaltgeräte Meerane GmbH!
3. Functional Test
3.1 Mechanical test of electrode setting mechanism.Use the hand-crank and the emergency hand drive to move the electrodes from the upper end position to the lower end position and then back.
3.1.1 There is no force between the electrodes and there guiding pins inany position between the two end position. Please confirm: YES
3.1.2 Check the unchanged setting of the limit switches and / or proximityinitiators. Red seals o.k.? Please confirm: YES

• Connect the control cables and the cables of the voltage supply with the corresponding terminals ofthe starter. Make sure that all fuses and circuit breakers are switched on. At ambient temperaturesof ≤ 5°C disable or disconnect voltage supply for electrolyte heaters (if installed)!
• Make sure the power supply to the stator side of the slip-ring motor continues to remaininterrupted, also in event of switching ON the slip-ring motor!
Execution of electrical test is depending on the starters design. Is this starterequipped with a built-in sequence control? YES NO
If the answer is NO continue with item 3.2. If the answer is YES continue with item 3.3.
3.2 Electrical test of starters without a built-in sequence control.
3.2.1 All control cables connected to the starters connection terminalaccording to the valid diagrams? Please confirm: YES
3.2.2 Is the customer-made starter sequence control designed to satisfythe general requirements given in the „INSTALLATION,OPERATING AND MAINTENANCE INSTRUCTIONS“ chapter 2.1!
Please confirm: YES NO
In case of NO write down the differences on a separate sheet ofpaper and attach it to this check list.
3.2.3 Confirm the execution of a successful test run. YES
3.2.4 Correspond the measured starting time with the startingtime engraved in the wide framed ta-field of the rating plate (± 10 %)? YES
Continue with item 4!
3.3 Electrical test of starters with a built-in sequence control.
3.3.1 All control cables connected to the starters connection terminalaccording to the valid control diagrams? Please confirm: YES
3.3.2. Connect the connecting terminals ground electrode “C” and minimalelectrode “MIN” for the liquid level controller -B4 in order to simulatea sufficient electrolyte level.Execute a test run by using an external or internal start signal. Checkall control-relevant functions and compare the results with the functionsdetermined by the control diagrams. Please confirm no deviations: YES

Reconnect the jumper wire for the liquid level controller -B4.
3.3.3 Correspond the measured starting time with the startingtime engraved in the wide framed ta-field of the rating plate (± 10 %)? YES
• Fill up the starter with electrolyte.• Enable or reconnect the voltage supply for electrolyte heaters if disabled or disconnected before.
4. Electrolyte basic filling
Have you filled up the starter according to the instructions given inthe „INSTALLATION, OPERATING AND MAINTENANCEINSTRUCTIONS“ chapter 1.3 and the documentation part „Resistancedata for Three - Phase Liquid Rotor Starter“ Please confirm: YES
5. Readjustments
5.1 Change of starting time ta
If it is necessary to change the starting time because there has been a change in operating characteristics proceed as follows (select the applicable item 5.1.1 or 5.1.2):
5.1.1 Starting time of starters equipped with an electrode setting motor with two separate windings(8-4-pole version) can be changed by modifying the wiring of the motor connection terminal(see instructions inside the motor connection box). The second available starting time is engraved in the thin framed ta-field of the rating plate!
5.1.2 Starting time of starters equipped with a standard electrode setting motor (standard version4- or 8-pole) and a frequency converter can be changed by modifying the setting of the frequency converter. The allowed setting time range is engraved in the thin framed ta-field of the rating plate. How to change the parameter „maximum output frequency“ is described in the „Users Manual“ of the frequency converter.
Starting time supervision (installed or appropriated by the user) must be changed accordingly!Setting on new starting time ta + 5 seconds (currently time T1 in logic module, 35+5=40s).

5.2 Changes of other parameters or set-points
Changes of other parameters or set-points requires approval by Elektroschaltgeräte Meerane GmbH. Not approved modifications may effect guarantee loss.
After completion of changes run through the check list once again beginning with item 3!
If serious deviations are found in any section of the checking procedure the starter may only beput to work on receipt of a written approval by Elektroschaltgeräte Meerane GmbH!
