LEADERS’ BRIEFING AND PREPARATION Hope that you have been faithfully exploring the book of Mark together with the children. Come to briefing prepared to share one highlight of what you’ve discovered through your daily Bible reading. As you prepare for the lesson this week, cover each child in your group in prayer, by name. Pray that God will meet with them personally during their time of devotion and Bible reading. Pray that they will lean on God through every difficult situation they meet with this week, and that His word will be a light for their path. Pray that they will encounter God during this weekend’s GKidz service. INTRO AND GROUND RULES RECAP (10 mins) Logistics: 2 flags per small group (GKidz to provide) Leader to say: Hi children, we have learned a lot of things since the beginning of the year, and today we are going to have a short, but fun review of the some of the key things that we have learnt! We are going to split the group into two teams – Team Hairy Rambutan and Team Spiky Durian! You’re going to earn points for your team by responding to questions or winning at different challenges along the way. If you think you know the right answer, just raise your team’s flag and wave it around! Ground Rules Recap [1,000 points] The very first thing that we did was to decide on the rules for our group! I will give 1,000 points to the team that can correctly tell me our group’s rules! [Go through your own small group’s rules again]

LEADERS’ BRIEFING AND PREPARATION Hope that you have been faithfully exploring the book of Mark together with the children. Come to briefing prepared to share one highlight of what you’ve

discovered through your daily Bible reading. As you prepare for the lesson this week, cover each child in your group in prayer, by name.

• Pray that God will meet with them personally during their time of devotion and Bible reading.

• Pray that they will lean on God through every difficult situation they meet with this week, and that His word will be a light for their path.

• Pray that they will encounter God during this weekend’s GKidz service.

INTRO AND GROUND RULES RECAP (10 mins) Logistics: 2 flags per small group (GKidz to provide)

Leader to say: Hi children, we have learned a lot of things since the beginning of the year, and today we are going to have a short, but fun review of the some of the key things that we have learnt! We are going to split the group into two teams – Team Hairy Rambutan and Team Spiky Durian! SOCIAL EMOTIONAL LEARNING – FEELINGS RECAP (15 mins) Logistics: Feelings cards (GKidz to provide)

Leader to say: We then ventured into the exciting world of FEELINGS! Name the Four Feeling Categories [1,000 points]

• The teams are given 30 seconds to discuss • They are to name the four categories of feelings [Ans: GLAD, MAD, BAD and

SAD] Feelings Charades [1,000 points for each correct guess, 1,000 points for correct category] We are going to play a game about our feelings, to see if we can identify these feelings in other people, and what category these feelings are in. Instructions

• Get one volunteer at a time from each team to come up. • Show the volunteer a feeling card, for them to act out and for their group to guess within

one minute. Choose easier words for P1 children, and more challenging feelings for P3s.

• A correct guess will earn the team 1,000 points. If they cannot guess the word at the end of one minute, tell them the correct answer.

• After each feeling is guessed/revealed, the team can win 1,000 more points if they tell you which of the GLAD / MAD / BAD / SAD categories the feeling falls within.

Transition: You did well, everybody! You did a good job of identifying the feeling that someone else was feeling based on their expression.

RESPONSIBILITY RECAP (15 mins) Logistics: Clue Sheet (1 per group, GKidz to provide, please see Appendix)

Leader to say: After learning about our feelings, we also learned about a character value… Does anyone remember what character value that was? [allow children to respond] That’s right! We learned about responsibility! Responsibility is a very important character value that we need to have so that we can be trusted with more opportunities. Remembering the Definition of Responsibility [1,000 points]

• Test whether they remember the definition of responsibility. • Allow the children to try to recall, but if they cannot, show them the first clue • [Ans: Responsibility is knowing and doing what is expected of me]

Remembering the Five “I Will”s of Responsibility [1,000 points for each “I will”] There are five “I will”s that help us to apply and practice responsibility. Can you remember what they are? Similarly test them using the clue sheet if they need help or prompting. [Ans: The 5 “I Will”s 1. I will keep my promises 2. I will not make excuses 3. I will make things right when I’ve made a mistake 4. I will do all my work to the best of my ability 5. I will know my duty and carry out my duty]

EXPLORER CHALLENGE RECAP (10 mins) Logistics: Your personal copy of the explorer challenge booklet (leader to do and bring)

Leader to say: One thing that we were challenged to be responsible with this past week was to continue our Bible exploration through the book of Mark. How was everyone’s exploration this week? [Share one exciting thing that you learnt through your exploration this week through the book of Mark, or your Living Life devotion.] Does anyone else have any other exciting discoveries from their exploration? I will award 2,000 points to whichever team has a member with something to share from their daily exploration. [Allow the children to share]

CHARACTER APPLICATION – RESPONSIBILITY (10 mins) Logistics: Happy Holiday worksheet (1 per child, GKidz to provide)

Leader to say: “One of the five ways to practice responsibility is to know our duty and do our duty. And that includes during the school holidays! What are some of the fun things that you are looking forward to during this school holidays? Are any of you going for a trip overseas, or somewhere fun in Singapore like the zoo? Or maybe you will be going to play at your cousins’ house. Sometimes we are so busy having fun that we forget to do our homework until it's the last

day of the holidays! What would happen then? [Allow the children to respond] Yah we would be so worried about whether we can finish everything, and whether our teacher will be upset with us. A responsible child would be different – they would know their duty and do their duty, even while they are having fun. Here is a worksheet that will help you think about what duties you may have during the holidays. List them out and tick them off as you complete them! It’ll feel really good to know that you fulfilled your responsibility, and will mean that you’ll have more time to play after that! In each category, write down some of the things that you must do, that you should do and that you want to do in each category.” Briefly talk through the worksheet with the children and ask them to go home and choose what activities they should do, together with their parents.
