Animal studies found that satavari is capable of producing leucocytosis with neutrophilia and, furthermore, was able to prevent myelosuppression by reducing cyclophosphamide-induced leucopenia.Asparagus racemosus showed considerable in vitro antibacterial efficacy against Escherichia coli, Shigella dysenteriae, Shigella sonnei, Shigella flexneri, Vibrio cholerae, Salmonella typhi, Salmonella typhimurium, Pseudomonas putida, Bacillus subtilis and Staphylococcus aureus. The

effects produced by the methanol extract were compared with chloramphenicol. The

antimicrobial activity may be due to 9, 10-Dihydrophenanthrene.

Ashoka, Gandhapushpa(Saraca indica) Saraca asoca is a small evergreen tree.

Its principal constituents are a steroid component and a calcium salt. The bark of Saraca indica

contains the estrogenic compound ketosterol. The bark has a stimulating effect on the

endometrium and ovarian tissue, is useful in menorrhagia due to uterine fibroids, in leucorrhea and in internal bleeding, where ergot is indicated. It is well established for its effectiveness in menorrhagia and dysmenorrhea. It also has a stimulatory effect on the ovarian tissue and may produce an oestrogen-like effect that enhances the repair of the endometrium and stops bleeding.

A clinical trial was conducted on patients of oligomenorrhoea, in which a preparation, consisting Saraca indica (Ashoka) as one of the ingredients, was administered for three months and then

followed up at regular patterns. During the study period, 4 out of 20 patients conceived and
