The Holy Sacrifice of the Mass will be offered for all those who so kindly donated their blood for m y open heart operation and also all those who had Masses and prayers said for my recovery.
A portion of the Communion prayers of the Mass come to mind as appropriately expressing my wish for you.
“May the Blood of Our Lord Jesus Christ preserve thy soul to life everlasting.”
I shall be forever indebted to you for your kindness.
Sincerely,

After seventeen years Prep said good-bye to Joe Zucconi, one of its best loved teachers and finest men. Some teachers exert an influence that cannot be measured or described, just by being themselves. Joe Zucconi is such a man.
At Peter Bent Brigham Hospital in Boston last June 8th, Mr. William Hanlon underwent a twelve- hour operation for the correction of a defective valve in his heart. When Mr. Hanlon left Prep in the first week of June, he and his students and fellow teachers knew that the chances of his returning in September were only fifty-fifty.
Mr. Hanlon almost did not return. But after those few anxious days Mr. Hanlon said to his parents, “ Tell them at Grand Street I’m coming back.”
On Schola Brevis Day Mr. Hanlon was back, full smile, full schedule.

THE OFFENSIVE ELEVENQuarterback: Jack O’Dea; Backs: Tony Mendolla, John Crowe, Jack Kutney; Line: Gene Torpey, Mike Agresta, Bob Zakhar, Jim Stokes, Tony Genovese, Marty Clancy, Bill O’Day.
As the 1961 season opened, Bill Cochrane seemed faced with a rebuilding year. He had three-fourths of his backfield returning, but the offensive line and the defensive team were green and inexperienced. But once more Prep proved the experts wrong. They bowled over Bayonne in the opening game, and after a loss to powerhouse St. Joseph’s of Philadelphia, they added four straight wins. Both the offensive ana defensive lines showed surprising strength. The defense looked especially strong in shutting out Demarest and stopping the ground games of St. Benedict’s, Snyder and Lincoln.
Reaching out for the County Championship, a determined Prep team met an equally determined Memorial team. With its first chance to defeat Memorial in three years, Prep saw its hopes crumble as the fabled Memorial luck snatched up a fumble and ran 85 yards for a 7-6 victory.
The next week Prep once more outplayed its opponent only to lose by a point. The Irish from St. Michael’s were beaten in every department but managed to cash in on their few scoring opportunities and put down the Prep 14-13.
Looking at the record of past Prep teams, this was a poor season, but Prep was outplayed in only one game, and with a break or two this team might have gone down as one of the greatest.

Tim « M- . I D D W m \m e /Veut j M i M j i i t u xIS ON THE MOVE
The city is rebuilding on every front—attracting new industry- erecting new homes—providing efficient, streamlined municipal gov
ernm ent-offering more opportunity than ever before to the young
college graduate.
Jersey C ity differs from many American cities. It is geographically located on the west shore of the Hudson River where major national railroads terminate; it has deep water harbor facilities; it is served by expressways which are and will continue to be part of our national highway system; it has economic advantages offered few other cities
in the nation.
These geographic and physical assets truly make Jersey City, the
American City of Opportunity.
