From the Desk of Father Bosco Dear Friends, In the Gospel, we see Jesus speaking to the crowds about John the Baptist: ’What did you go out to the desert to see? A reed swayed by the wind? Someone dressed in fine clothing? John the Baptist was no reed swaying in the wind. A reed swaying in the wind is a symbol of those who are easily

influenced, who go along with whatever is popular, and who have no convictions of their own. But the humble reed can teach us something. The fact that it is light means that it is at the mercy of every wind that blows. But it has great strength too. The greatest storm cannot uproot it. Even when giant oaks come crashing down, the slender reed still stands secure. John the Baptist was a man of courage and conviction. Our prayer should be: Lord, teach us that there is strength in weakness and suppleness, and give us the wisdom to know when to bend and when to stand firm. I wish you all a blessed Advent and God’s blessings.

Deepen your faith with the CATHOLIC HERALD_

The Catholic Herald this week includes a special Senior section that addresses issues pertinent to senior Catholics. On its Entertainment page, the Catholic Herald also highlights TV and radio programs to help make viewing choices easier and provides ideas for fun, family-friendly events to attend. Learn more about your Catholic faith by reading the Catholic Herald. If you do not subscribe but wish to receive the Catholic Herald in your home, contact your parish office.

OUR CALL TO STEWARDSHIP “You too must be patient. Make your hearts firm, because the coming of the Lord is at hand.” JAMES 5:8 Patience is another one of those things many of us struggle with. We want things to go according to our plan and our schedule. Any change brings anxiety and fear. Through daily prayer we better align ourselves with God’s will and His plan, which is far better than anything we can come up with on our own.

Please pray for our sick: Bernie Wiegel, Glenn Garvey, Dale Symons, Eileen White, Joyce Von Rueden, Rita Marty and Heidi Brunkow Moran. If you know of someone seriously ill and needs community prayers, please inform Father Bosco.
