S E C T IO N IGENERAL . SCOPE. This manual covers the technique of operationof the supply battalion, armored division. (See FM 17-50.) . PURPOSE. This manual is a guide only to the em ployment of the supply battalion. The formations, actions, disposition, and use described herein are not in flexible. Each

tactical situationpresents a dif ferent problem involv in g employm ent of the supply battalion in delivery of itssupply lo adto m eet theneeds ofcom bat units. . O R G A N I Z A T IO N . The supply battalion consists of a headquarters and headquarters com pany (T/O 10-36), tw o truckcom panie s (T/O 10-37), and a m edical detachment (T/O10-35 ). The battalion, headquarters is the administrativeunit w hich contro ls operation of the battalion. The headquarters com pany is the general serviceunitof the battalion;it furnishes second echelon maintenance and provides forroutine administration and m essing of the battalion headquarters, the div ision quartermaster platoon, the serviceplatoon, and the division ammunition section. The truckcom panie s providemeans for transporting the organic loadcarried by the supply battalion. The m edical detachmentprovid es m edical service for the battalion.a. Battalion headquarters consists of a headquarters section and a personnel section.(1) The headquarters section consists of battalion commander, executive and operations officer (S-2 and S-3),adjutant (S-l), supply officer (S-4), one warrant officer assistant adjutant, and fifteen enlisted m en. In addition toin dividual w eapons, this section is equipped with vehicularmachine guns and one 37-m m antitankgun tow ed by a halftrack. It is equipped w ith one SCR 5 06 radio set for communication in the divis io n trainradio net, one SCR 5 1 0 set,andoneSCR 5 2 8 set for com m unicationwithin the battalion.It may be furnished an additional SCR 5 0 6 set by the trainheadquarters com pany.

(2) The personnel section consists of one lieutenant normally used as liaison agent with train headquarters andsevenenlisted men. This section is provided with one truck,ton, 6x6, for personnel and equipment.

headquarters companyconsists of company headquarters, service platoon, divisionquartermaster platoon, and division ammunition section.(1) The company headquarters consists of(a) Command section, consisting of companycommander,bugler, and chauffeur transported in one truck, %-ton command, equipped with one SCR 510 set.(b) Maintenance section, consisting of one lieutenant andseventeen enlisted men, who provide the second echelonmaintenance for the entire battalion, are transported inthree trucks, 2y2-ton, including one maintenance wreckerand tw o tools and parts, one heavy wrecker. They have oneself-propelled 37-mm antitank gun.(c) Administrative, supply, and mess section, consisting ofthe first sergeant, one staff sergeant, mess, and fourteentechnicians. They have one self-propelled 37-mm antitankgun in addition to individual arms.(2) The service platoon consists of one lieutenant, oneplatoon staff sergeant, three section foremansergeants, threeassistant section foreman corporals, and forty-seven technicians. They have one self-propelled 37-mm antitank gun.This platoon provides the labor to the division quartermasterfor division ration and supply break-down, and labor forthe division ordnance officer for handling the ammunitionload of the supply battalion in its distribution within thedivision. Personnel of this platoon while performing thesefunctions are directly under the control of the respectivedivision special staff officer. Other details must not interferewith these functions. See EM 17-50 for use of this platoonon division duties.(3) (a) The division quartermasterplatoon consists of fourofficers and twenty-two enlisted men. It is organized intofour sections: subsistence, transportation, fuel and lubrication, and supply . One truck, %-ton, is assigned to each oneof these sections and one truck, 2y2 -ton, is assigned to thesubsistence section for transporting personnel and office
