FLAMES 2016-17 PLAYER BIOSmatchup notesNOTES AND ANECDOTES - LIBERTY VS. UNCG

• Liberty is 8-15 all-time against former Big South Conference rival UNCG but has won four of the teams' last fi ve meetings, including the last three contests played at the Vines Center.

• One of the most memorable games during the Vines Cen-ter's 30-year history was a Liberty-UNCG clash. The host Lady Flames topped the Spartans 89-82 in the Big South Championship title game on March 1, 1997 to claim their fi rst-ever conference championship.

• UNCG is visiting the Vines Center for the fi rst time in seven years. Liberty topped the Spartans 76-56 on Nov. 27, 2012, led by Tolu Omotola (21 points, 10 rebounds).

• Both Liberty and UNCG have played close games at ACC schools this season. UNCG won 67-65 at Wake Forest on Nov. 10, while the Lady Flames lost 73-69 at Virginia Tech in their most recent game, Friday.

• Both teams feature outside sharpshooters from Sweden, including Liberty sophomore Melat Sissay (Stockholm) and UNCG junior Pernilla Sorensen (Taby).

• UNCG senior guard Nadine Soliman led the SoCon with 19.1 ppg last season and is averaging 17.8 ppg to start 2019-20. Last year, Liberty held Soliman to two fi rst-half points be-fore she scored a dozen after halftime, highlighted by the game-winning triple at the fi nal buzzer.

LAST MEETING WITH UNCGDEC. 16, 2018UNCG 48, LIBERTY 45GREENSBORO, N.C. (FLEMING GYMNASIUM)

• UNCG's Nadine Soliman scored a game-high 14 points, in-cluding a banked-in three-pointer at the fi nal buzzer which gave her team a dramatic victory.

• The fourth quarter featured four lead changes and four ties. Prior to Soliman's heroics, the Lady Flames' Emily Lytle had evened the score at 45-45 with a spinning bank shot from the paint with 7.5 seconds remaining.

• Liberty shot just 29.5 percent (13-of-44) from the fi eld with only KK Barbour (10 points) and Kierra Johnson-Graham (10 points) reaching double fi gures. The Lady Flames kept it close by hitt ing 88.9 percent (16-of-18) of their foul shots.

A LIBERTY WIN WOULD ...

• Mark the Lady Flames' fourth straight home win over UNCG and their fi fth win in the last six meetings with the Spartans overall.

• Give the Lady Flames their fi rst victory against a SoCon opponent this season, following losses to conference mem-bers ETSU and Chatt anooga.

• Enable the Lady Flames to avoid their fi rst three-game home losing streak since they dropped four consecutive games at the Vines Center between the 2015-16 and 2016-17 seasons.

• Give the Lady Flames their second victory thus far in 2019-20 versus a team Liberty lost to last season, along with the season-opening triumph at Norfolk State.

LIBERTY VS. SOCON

• The Lady Flames are 15-26 all-time when facing Southern Conference (SoCon) opponents, including 6-7 under Carey Green and 0-2 this season.

• Liberty is wrapping up a 14-day span including three SoCon matchups. The Lady Flames previously lost 63-62 to ETSU on Nov. 8 and fell to Chatt anooga 71-54 on Nov. 11, with both contests taking place at the Vines Center.

• Three of the Lady Flames' fi ve meetings with SoCon foes over the last two seasons have been decided by three points or fewer. Liberty is 1-4 versus SoCon opponents during the last two seasons, with the lone victory coming at ETSU (89-86 on Dec. 4, 2018 in Johnson City, Tenn.)

HOME SWEET HOME

• After Thursday, Liberty only has nine home games remain-ing on the regular-season schedule for its 30th and fi nal season at the Vines Center. Nine of the Lady Flames' next 10 games will be played away from Lynchburg.

• Liberty has won 79 percent of its home games at the Vines Center all-time, including 84 percent under Carey Green.

• A crowd of 1,893 fans att ended the Nov. 8 home opener against ETSU. That was the Lady Flames' largest home crowd since 3,741 fans watched Liberty host Duke on Nov. 11, 2016.
