Padre’s Pen ~Missionary and theGift of Silence
Our guest speaker for the Mission Cooperation Plan in our Archdiocese is here with us again this weekend at our 8:30 and 10:30 Masses. Ms. Diane Yonga, a parishioner of the Cathedral of St. Paul and lay missionary with the Lay Mission Helpers Association based in Los Angeles, California, is finishing up our Mission Appeal this weekend. There is a basket in the back of Church for the two Masses at which she is speaking. If you have any additional donations, they may be put in the drop box at the back door of the rectory and should be clearly marked, “For Mission.” Please be generous for the people of Ghana.
Last weeks’ vacation was very restful and refreshing for me. Although I worked hard cutting wood, cutting brush, constructing a platform stand, and cleaning up around our property, I spent a lot of time in prayer. The day started early (about 6:00 AM) with Mass, then I drove into town for a cup of coffee and brought it back to the cabin to sip on while I did my morning prayers. I had a light breakfast and went to work.
Very few cars drive on our road and I can’t hear them anyway when I’m on the back 40. It was the silence that was most profoundly affecting me. I struggled starting the equipment because I knew it would add noise and break the meditative character. I think I understand better both Elijah and Moses who stood in the midst of maelstroms on Mount Sinai but covered their heads when they “heard” the still, small sound and knew God’s presence was with them.
We have a lot of extra “noise” in our lives from vehicles, radios, gadgets, and gizmos. There is noise from the angst, bitterness, and hatred that pervades our country and culture right now. There are constant barrages of people’s streams of consciousness thoughts published on social media (which so often are better kept in ones’ own head for more reflection).
I recommend the remedy of silence. Stand in silent reflection before the Lord. It can be while you are doing some type of labor like I was last week, or it can be on one’s knees before the Blessed Sacrament but spend some time in silence with the Lord. He will speak to you in that silence; He will refresh and renew you.

Relaunching the Capital Campaign
Earlier this year, we decided to pause our capital campaign because of the pandemic. Although the campaign was at a standstill, some decided to make a pledge and/or initial gifts. A special thank you to those who have already stepped up with a financial gift and/or commitment! Your support demon-strates a true enthusiasm for this effort.
Due to this positive momentum, we are now relaunching the campaign for maintaining and enhancing our three sites! St. Wenceslaus is also seeking to eliminate the parking lot debt and pay for city assessments.
Please pray that the Holy Spirit will guide and inspire us for this important effort in the NPACC’s future! For more informa-tion, visit www.npcatholic.org and hover over GIVE at the top and then click on CAPITAL CAMPAIGN
PLARN BALL CHALLENGE:Challenge 1:Submit your photo of you plarn ball ~ the largest ball of plarn will win bragging rights and a gift certificate to Dairy Queen!
Challenge 2:Creative Photo Contest: submit a photo of your plarn; most creative string will be eligible for a $25 gift certificate to Patty’s Place.

My Jesus,I believe that You
are present in the Most Holy Sacrament.I love You above all things,
and I desire to receive You into my soul.Since I cannot at this moment
receive You sacramentally, come at least spiritually into my heart.
I embrace You as if You were already thereand unite myself wholly to You.
Never permit me to be separated from You.Amen.
Join us in celebrating our wonderful parish with the 2020 version of the St. Wenceslaus Church Festival the weekend of August 8-9!
We will have polka masses on Saturday, August 8 at 5:00 pm and Sunday, August 9 at 8:30 am and 10:30 am. Both the 5:00 pm and the 10:30 am masses will be livestreamed at https://npcatholic.org/ if you are more comfortable joining us that way!
We will also be holding our traditional raffle drawing and bucket raffle. Our bucket raffle this year will include five "big ticket" items: four one-quarter Black Angus Beefs ~ includes processing, a Milwaukee impact drill and hammer drill set with cases, charging cords and battery packs. Other prizes include a hunter’s ground blind, and a New Prague Shop Local gift card basket totaling over $500, plus one $500 cash prize!
Bucket raffle tickets will be sold before and after all Sat-urday and Sunday masses this weekend and next and are $5 for one or 5 tickets for $20. Both raffle drawings will be livestreamed at 2:00 pm on Sunday, August 9 on the parish website. We thank you so much for your un-derstanding, patience and prayers during this time as we continue to be thankful for and to celebrate our church community!
Ministry & Social Justice Corner:Bountiful ocean life: forever lost?In Laudato Si, Pope Francis addresses biodiversity: "Each year sees the disappearance of thousands of plant and animal species which we will never know, which our chil-dren will never see, because they have been lost forev-er… Because of us, thousands of species will no longer give glory to God by their very existence, nor convey their message to us. We have no such right." (33).
Francis is especially concerned about the effects of de-velopment of forests, wetlands, and coastal lands. Devel-opment may seem like a short-term gain but over time it limits the land's ability to absorb carbon pollution and mitigate climate change. Coastal lands and coral reefs are also a serious concern, since they are a natural bar-rier to erosion and storm surges. He notes, “…coral reefs ~ the most biodiverse parts of the ocean ~ are "already barren or in a state of constant decline." The reefs are home to millions of species ~ most notably those at the bottom of the food chains that underpin all marine eco-systems. Our living ocean produces more than half the oxygen we breathe, which is why mass coral bleaching events threaten all life on Earth.
Reflect and act:Francis challenges us: “Because all creatures are connect-ed, each must be cherished with love and respect, for all of us as living creatures are dependent on one another.” (42). We can learn about ways to protect biodiversity by watching Mission Blue or Our Planet (currently on Net-flix) or public television nature programs.

FAITH FORMATION ANDYOUTH MINISTRY
Grades 1-7 Disciples of ChristI hope this summer is allowing you time to get
refreshed and recharged to tackle whatever the fall will look like for your school aged child. There are so many unknowns out there, but one thing is for sure, we have a God who loves us, cares for us, and wants a relation-ship with us.
With the threat of a continued Covid presence, we have made some changes for our Disciples of Christ grade 1-7 program. I am so excited about our new plan. All fami-lies should have received an email outlining this family friendly faith study that brings us into the Bible and into a deeper relationship with Jesus. If you haven’t received the mailing, please contact me, Laura Schoenecker, at [email protected]. Registration is now open online here: https://npcatholic.org/2020-21-disci-ples-of-christ-registration-grades-1-9

Welcome to our new staff:Ms. Amber Peterson will be joining our preschool staff as our fulltime preschool teacher. Amber will come to us as Mrs. Amber Heinz as she will be getting married before school starts. Amber and her soon-to-be husband will be living in our area. She comes to us with several years of preschool teaching in programs around the Rochester area. Welcome Amber to our staff.
Ms. Courtney Martin has been hired as an additional kin-dergarten teacher. With the large number of incoming kindergarten kids registered and in trying to keep the numbers low for our clusters (due to Covid), we have added this program. Courtney recently graduated from Winona State University. She has been working in the New Prague school district since January. Courtney grew up in the Le Center area and attended TCU before col-lege. She holds a degree in elementary education and early childhood. Ms. Martin will make an amazing ad-dition to our kindergarten program. Welcome Courtney.
