As well as delivering a unique blend of basic science and clinical practice, our objective this year is to make our Congress as environmentally friendly as possible. We have significantly reduced our production of printed materials and instead provided you with access to the full programme and abstracts via a mobile app (https://eventmobi.com/18thicid/) and online http://www.isid.org/icid/symposia.shtml. To access the conference app download ‘Eventmobi’ from the App Store and enter the congress code ‘18thicid’. Use this program as a quick reference guide to find sessions, exhibitors and details of social events. To further reduce our environmental footprint, we will not be providing pre-filled Congress bags and kindly ask delegates to use bags which they have brought with them – win a prize if you have the oldest ICID bag spotted during the event!

DRAGONS’ DEN Saturday March 3, 17:00-18:00, La Pampa, 1st Floor Come along and support intrepid competitors who have nerves of steel and ideas that could change the world! Watch them present their own innovative infectious disease solutions to a panel of fiery experts – the Dragons - with the most feasible, novel and scalable solution winning a prize.

GORGAS COURSES IN CLINICAL TROPICAL MEDICINE With hands-on sessions focusing on hot topics, critical advances and patient case discussions in clinical tropical medicine, this is a not-to-be missed opportunity to engage with the renowned Gorgas Courses faculty. The sessions are developed for Congress attendees wishing to update their knowledge in tropical medicine and for those who want to learn more about the Gorgas Courses. Check out the daily sessions (pages 10 to 15) for more information on when the Gorgas Courses are taking place!

ISID’S GUIDE TO INFECTION CONTROL IN THE HOSPITAL WORKSHOP Saturday March 3, 12:45 – 13:45, Golden Horn, 1st Floor We seek your input on the newest edition of the Guide to identify gaps in the international infection prevention and control (IPC) resource landscape and to facilitate the implementation of IPC measures across a wide range of resource settings. Places are limited, sign up onsite.

INNOVATIVE DISEASE SURVEILLANCE (EPICORE) WORKSHOP Friday March 1, 12:45 – 13:45, Retiro BC, 1st Floor Non-traditional sources of information such as social and mass media can often alert public health officials to possible disease outbreaks faster than traditional surveillance methods. Field epidemiologists

are learning how to leverage these sources for disease detection through innovative disease surveillance. Workshop participants will learn about innovative disease surveillance methods and how to use the EpiCore platform to verify outbreaks. After completion of the workshop, qualified participants will be able to enroll as EpiCore volunteers and participate in this global effort to combat emerging infectious diseases. EpiCore is a collaboration of ISID’s Program for Monitoring Emerging Diseases (ProMED), Ending Pandemics, TEPHINET and HealthMap.

ISID JOINT COUNCIL & BUSINESS MEETING Sunday March 4, 12:30 – 13:30, Retiro A, 1st Floor Learn more about ISID, actively exchange ideas concerning the Society and its activities with representatives of the Executive Committee and Council. ISID is proud to collaborate with la Sociedad Argentina de Infectología (SADI) to present the 18th International Congress on Infectious Diseases/ XVIII Congreso SADI. The International Congress on Infectious Diseases (ICID) held its inaugural event in 1986 and has been bringing together experts with an interest in infectious diseases ever since.

ABOUT ICID AND THE ORGANISING COMMITTEES

22 23

SADI is a scientific organization that brings together infectious disease professionals in Argentina to actively participate in scientific and educational

activities and serve as advisors for local policy makers. A vibrant society, SADI is continually growing its membership and progressively gaining visibility.

Dedicated to sparking critical connections through global disease surveillance, research, education and advocacy, while developing partnerships and finding long-term solutions to infectious disease challenges worldwide. The International Society for Infectious Diseases (ISID) has

more than 80,000 members representing every country in the world. ISID’s programs include advocacy, education, grants and fellowships programs, the Guide to Infection Control in Hospitals, the International Journal of Infectious Diseases (IJID) and ProMED.

ProMED is an internet based reporting system dedicated to rapid global dissemination of information on outbreaks of infectious diseases and acute exposures to toxins that affect human health, including those in animals and in plants

grown for food or animal feed. Providing early warning outbreaks of emerging and re-emerging diseases, public health precautions at all levels can be taken in a timely manner to prevent epidemic transmission and to save lives.
