Monday from fans greeting the New Orleans Saints at the Louis Armstrong Inter-national Airport were not for a player or coach.

The decibels were high-est when coach Sean Pay-

ton lifted the Vince Lombardi Trophy, given to the Super Bowl championship team, from the sunroof of his sedan.

Fans ran alongside Payton’s Mercedes-Benz, some videotaping him and the trophy and others just cheering and waving.

“It was the most beautiful thing I’ve ever seen,” Kenner resident Rolita Small said.

As they do after every away game, throngs of fans met the Saints at the airport, a tradition that is unique among National Football League teams. Members of the Saints organization line up their cars in a caravan and drive past a mile of

screaming fans. On Monday, fans were five to six deep for most of the milelong route.

The Saints hired Kenner officers to work crowd control when the team arrives from away games, and police had 35 to 40 officers on the route Monday. That’s compared with the 18 that worked the past few games, Police Chief Steve Caraway said.

Some of the loudest cheers

ixteen hours after the New Orleans Saints’ victory in Super Bowl XLIV, the crowd at Domilise’s Po-Boys was still in Who Dat heaven. Everyone assembling

the Uptown restaurant’s iconic shrimp, oyster and roast beef sandwiches was wearing a Saints-related T-shirt or cap, as were many of the customers, and everyone was smiling.

Into this jam-packed eatery came Joy Favor, who had made a beeline for Domilise’s after getting off a flight from Miami, where she had seen the game. Wearing a black T-shirt and carrying a gold-en tote bag on her left shoulder, she said two words when she crossed the threshold: “Who Dat!”

All over New Orleans, people shared the euphoria froma stunning victory

Just like the New Orleans Saints winning the Super Bowl on Sunday, this afternoon’s Black and Gold Super Bowl Parade in downtown New Orleans is shap-ing up to be a lifetime event.

More than 250 Saints players, coaches and staff members will be throwing beads from a dozen of the area’s premier Carnival floats.

“I think that this is the first time that you’ll ever see all these floats together at one time, and very well could be the last time you ever see all these floats together,” said Barry Kern, pres-ident of Blaine Kern Studios, which is overseeing the event.

Included will be the signature floats of Endymion, Bacchus, Rex, Zulu, Alla, Caesar, Tucks,

More households were tuned to CBS’ broadcast of Super Bowl XLIV than any scheduled pro-gram in U.S. TV history.

Sunday’s New Orleans Saints defeat of the Indianapolis Colts was viewed in 51.7 million house-holds, topping the previous record holder, the 1983 finale of the CBS

sitcom “M*A*S*H,” which drew 50.2 million homes, the Nielsen Co. announced Monday.

Sunday’s total average audi-ence of 106.5 million viewers eas-ily eclipsed last year’s record Super Bowl audience — the 98.7 million viewers who tuned to NBC’s broadcast of the Pitts-burgh Steelers’ defeat of the Ari-zona Cardinals.
