1820Maine would enter as a free state, Missouri would enter as a slave state: It would exclude slavery from the Missouri Territory north of the parallel 36 30 North except within the limits for the proposed state of Missouri.

Required citizens to assist in the recovery of fugitive slaves. It denied a fugitive’s right to a jury trial. The act called for changes in filing for a claim, making the process easier for slave owners. Also, there would be more federal officials responsible for enforcing the law.
