This week has been National Road Safety week and you may have seen that we had some visitors outside the

school earlier in the week. Among these visitors were representatives from the Fire Service, Community

Wardens and Police. They were raising awareness of the importance of choosing safe places to park when

dropping off children at the school as part of the National Road Safety week. It is important for us to

remember that the roads must remain clear so that the emergency services have clear access to the roads at

all times, we never know who will be in need of their help in an emergency. If you are concerned about

vehicles that are parked dangerously or inappropriately you can report this to

https://www.kent.gov.uk/roads-and-travel/travelling-around-kent/parking/nuisance-parking#tab-2

The children have also been thinking about road safety in school this week. They have talked about the Green

Cross Code and the difference between dangerous behaviour and safe behaviour, for example crossing next to

a parked car is dangerous and using a crossing is safer.

We have noticed that some children in years 3 to 6 are ordering a school packed lunch but then changing their mind and taking a hot dinner instead. Please can you remind your child that if they order a packed lunch they cannot change their mind to a hot dinner when they arrive in the dining hall. Please make sure, especially in the cold weather that children are ordering what they and you want them to have. The Chartwells menu is on the school website under the Parents Information tab so you can use this to help your child make the right choice. Please make sure that dinners are paid for at the beginning of the week and at the latest by the end of the week that the dinner has been taken. Many thanks

A message from Mrs Shields

Thank you all very much for the cakes that were donated for the cake sale on Friday 9th November. It was

lovely to see so many children coming along with their money to buy a cake. I am delighted to announce that

the total raised was £ 192.00, what an amazing start to my fund raising for this year.

Following our successful cake sale, my next fundraiser will be the chance to win a chocolate hamper costing

£1 per square. Tickets are now on sale. Please send money in with your child if you would like them to take

part. I will collect the money from your child’s class teacher and give them their ticket/s. The winning ticket

will be drawn on Friday 7th December.

Many thanks

Come and celebrate Christmas in Mortimer Street, Herne

Bay Friday 23rd! From 3.30pm there will be yummy food

stalls, face painters and a fairground ride. From 4-6pm

there will be performances on stage including Reg E.

Mental our local magician! We really hope to see you all

there! A Bundle of Books 6, Bank Street Herne Bay Kent CT6 5EY 01227 373 802 www.abundleofbooks.com

We are pleased to announce that on Tuesday 27th November we have an author, Gareth P Jones, coming in to

talk to the KS2 children in assembly. Gareth has written successfully for both children and adults and has also

worked in the TV industry. Best of all, he has lots of experience talking to and inspiring school groups.

Gareth will be reading extracts from and discussing his new book, “The Daily Joker” which

will be available for purchase on the day for just £4.00.

Not only will Gareth give an entertaining presentation but he will also be sharing the secrets

of using humour in writing to enhance the children’s own work.

Children who wish to purchase a book on the day can send money in a sealed envelope to

hand to their teacher before Tuesday or on the day.

We are sure this will be a memorable event and will help us in our quest to help the

children reach their full potential as writers.

The Reculver Variety Show!

We would like to invite all children to enter our school variety show this coming February.

We at Reculver know how talented the children are on a day-to-day basis but we wanted

to give them an opportunity to show case their varying talents in this amazing and en-

tertaining evening.

Be it singing, dancing, playing an instrument, magic, comedy, gymnastics… (or anything else you can think of!) we would

like you to apply to be part of our variety show.

We at Reculver believe it is so important for children to be able to shine and our school productions highlight this.

Restrictions in funding mean that sometimes we struggle to be able to purchase the equipment we need. One of our

priorities this year is to buy props and costumes that will help to make our productions even more of a sensation!

Therefore we would like to make our Reculver Variety Show a fundraising evening. Tickets will be on sale for £4.00 each

and refreshments will be available. A letter to request tickets will be sent out at the beginning of January.

If your child would like to enter, please collect an entry form from the school office or see Miss Hamilton or Mr Caple. We

will be holding auditions during school time during the week of 3rd December and 10th December. This will be to ensure

that we have a variety of acts on the evening. Please note that the children will need to provide any props/costumes/music

etc. for their act.

We hope that your child would like to be a part of this fabulous opportunity and that you would like to come and witness

the incredible talents that our children have, as well as supporting us in this fundraising opportunity. Please return your

entry forms by Friday 30th November.

Kind Regards

Miss Hamilton and Mr Caple

Sponsor a Christmas Tree

This year we are holding a Christmas Tree Festival in St Marys Church. Each class is tasked with the job of

decorating a tree for display with a specific Christmas theme. We thought that it would be a great idea to

ask local businesses to 'Sponsor a tree' for £25. We could then print off details of each business to put with

the trees and on leaflets to give anyone who comes top the festival. We'd only need 17 businesses to take

part and if you think you can help please get in touch with us on our email [email protected]

The trees are living trees and we are hoping to find somewhere to plant them until

next year so that we can reuse them. The trees would be in St Mary's from the festival

day on the 15th December until Epiphany and will be enjoyed by all. The PTFA and

members of the church will be present on the 15th to sell hot drinks/mince pies to

anyone who comes along. We are sure that this will be a very special event and will be

very grateful for any sponsorship that you can offer.

YEAR 1: This week in year 1 we have been looking at one more than and one less than in our maths. We have written our own stories about going to a party in our maths. We had a lovely D&T session on Friday where we looked at how to make jelly healthier and more appetising. We planned how we would do this by deciding that adding fruit would be the best option. We chose 3 fruits and carefully chopped them up before watching as the jelly cubes melted into liquid. We added the jelly to our fruit and we are looking forward to tasting and evaluating this on Monday! We have also been practising our nativity songs!

EARLY YEARS: This week the children have been exploring their Topic of birthdays. The children have celebrated Fred’s 5th Birthday this week. The children have thought creatively and have planned and prepared a party for Fred. They also used their mark making and fine motor skills to create decorations for the class rooms. In Maths the children have been looking at the magic maths words “more” and “fewer” and have enjoyed exploring this within their play. Well done to all the Early Years children for another fantastic week!

YEAR 2: This week Year 2 enjoyed watching The Nutcracker and used the

film to inspire their story writing in English. The children impressed

us with their imaginative ideas of toys coming to life and taking

them on fantastic adventures in Candy Land, the North Pole and

fairgrounds. In maths, the children have worked incredibly hard at

adding 2-digit numbers using a 100 square and jottings. They have

also discovered how to round numbers to the nearest 10. Using

Botticelli’s ‘The Mystic Nativity’, Year 2 acted as detectives and

explored this work to answer the question: Why do Christians think

Baby Jesus was a king? Our nativity rehearsals are well under way,

with the children working wonderfully as a team to learn all the

scenes, songs and actions. Well done, Year 2!

YEAR 6: ‘In the vastness of the Pacific, there's a place unlike any other. Enchanted volcanic islands that are home to a remarkable collection of animals and plants…’ This week we have been stepping into the shoes of a British legend - David Attenborough. The children have amazed us with their wonderful vocabulary and clever sentence choices when describing the intriguing habitat of the Galapagos Islands. They have then become TV presenters themselves as they recorded voice overs for the animal of their choice. It has been wonderful to see their enthusiasm for this topic continue. In Maths the children have been expanding their knowledge of fractions by using all four operations to complete calculations. It has been fantastic to see them applying their knowledge from the last few weeks and persevering when faced with lots of challenges.

YEAR 3/4: This week the children watched Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and wrote a diary entry describing all the delicious treats they could see. The children finished their models of the factories and they are looking great. In Science they set up circuits and investigated which classroom materials were conductors and insulators. In RE the children composed questions about The Trinity that they would like to know the answers to, ready to ask Rev Sue when she visits us next week.

YEAR 5: Year 5 impressed us greatly this week on their trip to Spires Academy for their Forensic Science Murder Mystery day. They listened well and were very respectful so got the most out of the occasion. Indeed, many of them were able to piece together all the pieces of the mystery and name their Prime Suspect based on the evidence and their powers of deduction. Some budding detectives were revealed that day! Next week we are looing forwards to our Greek Day, where the children will be designing Greek Pots, enjoy-ing some debate and dance, performing some Greek tales and enjoying some tasty Greek delicacies. Their writing this week has been excellent: the children innovated an adventure for Odysseus and practised their descriptive skills to bring the drama to life! More of the same next please Year 5 - have a lovely weekend in the meanwhile.

During worship this week we have continued to look at the stories about David and this week we have learnt about his friendship with Johnathan and the jealous of King Saul. This has helped us to think about making good and bad choices and also what to do when we feel jealous. Talk to your child about why it is important to make the good choices.

I say this because I know what I have planned for you,” says the Lord. “I have good plans for you. I don’t plan to hurt you.

I plan to give you hope and a good future. Jeremiah 29:11
