BCBA and Graduate CreditsThe Association for Positive Behavior Support (APBS) designates this conference for a maximum of 27 continuing education unit hours (3.5 hours for March 11, 16.5 hours for March 12 – 13 and 7 hours for March 14). Each attendee should claim only those credit hours that were actually spent in the educational activity (session and/or workshop). Permission is being sought for Board Certified Behavior Analysts (Type 2 credits) from the Behavior Analyst Certification Board. BCBA Credits will be offered for $5 per hour. All necessary paperwork will be available at the conference. A list of sessions approved for BCBA credits will be posted on the APBS website as the conference date approaches.

Thursday General Session General Session Speaker Robert Schalock

Robert Schalock, Ph.D., APBS 2020 General Session Speaker, is Professor Emeritus at Hastings College (Nebraska) where he chaired the Psychology Department and directed the Cognitive Behavior Lab from 1967 to 2000. He currently has adjunct research appointments at the University of Kansas (Beach Center), University of Salamanca

(Spain), Gent University (Belgium), and University of Chongqing (Mainland China). Bob has been involved in the field of intellectual disability for the last 40 years. Initially, he was a research psychologist studying the biochemical and behavioral basis of cognitive disabilities. Since 1972, his work has focused on the development and evaluation of community-based programs for persons with disabilities and the key roles that the concept of quality of life and the supports paradigm play in planning and delivering individualized supports within a service delivery system. Bob has published widely in the areas of personal and program outcomes, the supports paradigm, adaptive behavior, clinical judgment, quality of life, and the transformation of disabilities organizations.

Friday Keynote SpeakerCaryn Ward

Caryn Ward, Ph.D., HSP-P,Dr. Ward is the Associate Director for Education and Measurement of the National Implementation Research Network (NIRN) at the Frank Porter Graham Child Development Institute at UNC-Chapel Hill. At NIRN, she is the Director of the State Implementation and Scaling up of Evidence Based Practices (SISEP)

Center funded by US Department of Education’s Office of Special Education Programs. Dr. Ward has extensive experience in leading and developing infrastructure and capacity development with state and local education agencies as well as early childhood programs nationally. Within NIRN, Dr. Ward leads the development of implementation capacity measures and fidelity measures for use within education as well as other disciplines. Dr. Ward has served in a leadership role for the National Center for School Turnaround and currently serves on the advisory board of the National School Climate Center and research council for Communities in Schools - NC.

Please plan to arrive early and join us for these infor mative sessions! Space is limited and pre- registration is necessary to ensure you are able to attend the workshop of your choice.

SWK 101 – Engaging Youth At All Three Tiers in an Effective and Sustainable WayPatti Hershfeldt, Mid-Atlantic PBIS Network, Baltimore, MD; Steve Goodman, Michigan’s Integrated Behavior and Learning Support Initiative (MIBLSI), Holland, MI; JoAnne Malloy and Kathy Franceour, University of New Hampshire, Durham, NH; and Kay Augustine, Iowa Department of Edu-cation, Des Moines, IAThis session will focus on student engagement.  Learn how to engage youth at all three tiers of your PBIS initia-tive.  Additionally we will share systems considerations and implementation drivers that set up the conditions at district and or state levels for effective and sustainable focus on engaging youth.  Presenters will share examples and facili-tate networking and sharing between participants.

SWK 102 – Grappling with the Challenges of Practicing Behavior Analysis Ethically in the CommunityIlene Schwartz and Katy Bateman, University of Washington, Seattle, WAProviding services to people with disabilities is a team sport. BCBAs often work with professionals in other disciplines. We will discuss ethical dilemmas BCBAs face on multi-disciplinary teams and propose a problem-solving frame-work for addressing them.

SWK 103 – Basic FBA to BIP: A Practical Approach to Providing Function-Based SupportKathleen Strickland-Cohen, University of Oregon, Eugene, OR and Sheldon Loman, Portland State University, Portland, ORWorkshop attendees will learn about an evidence-based approach for training school personnel to conduct stream-lined FBA and implement practical function-based strate-gies in the classroom. Participants will be provided with access to all Basic FBA/BIP tools and have the opportunity to apply skills through practice activities.

SWK 104 – Integrating Mental Health within a School-wide System of PBIS at State/Regional and Local LevelsLucille Eber and Kelly Perales, Midwest PBIS Network, Lisle, ILThis workshop will describe the use of the Interconnected Systems Framework (ISF) to integrate mental health and PBIS for a comprehensive system of behavioral/mental health supports in schools. Examples, tools and other re-sources from ISF Installation Guides for application at State, District and School levels will be highlighted.

SWK 105 – Taking a Walk Through a Classroom Coaching GuideDama Abshier, University of South Florida, Tampa, FLParticipants will learn a process for coaching teachers to apply PBIS principles within their classrooms. Utilizing case scenarios, participants will practice using a Classroom Coaching Guide. A school district implementation example will be shared. Electronic copies of the guide will be pro-vided.

SWK 106 – Creating Culturally Sustaining PBIS Systems: Centering Equity in our Work Ruthie Payno-Simmons, Michigan’s Integrated Behavior and Learning Supports Initiative (MIBLSI), Holland, MIDuring this interactive session, participants will explore a framework that centers equity and culturally sustaining practices supportive of culturally and linguistically diverse students (CLDS) within PBIS Systems. Examples of tech-nical and adaptive solutions will be shared.

Saturday, March 14Skill-Building WorkshopsWe offer full-day and half-day Skill-Building Workshops on Saturday, March 14. These participatory work shops are led by professionals who are making significant con-tributions to the successful application of PBS. SWK 107 – School-wide Integration of PBIS and SEL to Promote Student Well-Being and SuccessSandra Hardee, Johns Hopkins University, Baltimore, MD and Catherine Bradshaw, University of Virginia, Charlottesville, VAThis presentation will provide an overview of the importance and benefits of integrating SEL and PBIS within a multilevel framework in schools. Implementation barriers, challenges and how to successfully integrate SEL and PBIS will be discussed.

SWK 108 – Bullying Prevention within a Multi-Tiered System of SupportsScott Ross, Colorado Department of Education, Denver, COThis workshop will describe a novel and functional approach to bullying prevention within a Multi-tiered System of Supports Framework. which gives students the tools to reduce bullying through the blending of school-wide positive behavioral interventions and supports, explicit instruction, and consistent adult responses.

SWK 109 – Mind Full or Mindful?: Flexible Living in a Stressed Out WorldAshley Greenwald and Jodie Soracco, University of Nevada, Reno, NVHave you ever felt emotionally drained? Come participate in an in-depth encounter with Acceptance and Commitment Training (ACT), where you will learn to behave flexibly and appreciate the present moment even when faced with hardship.

SWK 110 – Implementing a Systematic, Adaptive Tier 2 Framework Across K-12Sara McDaniel, University of Alabama, Tuscaloosa, AL and Allison Bruhn, University of Iowa, Iowa City, IAThe purpose of this workshop is to describe the Tier 2 Identification and Intervention Framework, highlight exemplar schools using the 5-step systematic tier 2 process for identification and intervention, and discuss adaptive strategies.

SWK 111 – Establishing Relationships: Blending Proactive Restorative Practices into your PBIS FrameworkStephanie Martinez and Lauren Evanovich, University of South Florida, Tampa, FLCome learn and practice how to embed proactive restorative practices into your existing Tier 1 PBIS framework. Leave with a draft action plan including implementation steps and evaluation tools.

SWK 112 – Coaching School Teams to Engage in Effective Teaming and Data-Use Practices within MTSS Brian Gaunt, University of South Florida, Tampa, FL and Scott Form, Pflugerville Independent School District, Pflugar-ville, TXParticipants will learn how effective teaming practices and a structured data analysis process can improve academic in-struction and behavior management practices. An activity-based learning approach will be used. Resources will be of-fered for application of ideas.

Special Half-Day Families and PBS Workshop: 8:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.This workshop is being offered at a special rate of $50 to anyone who wants to attend, separate from all other conference activities. All conference attendees are also wel-come to purchase this workshop at the special rate regard-less of membership status. This workshop is held at the same time as the Saturday Half-Day Sessions.

SWK 201 – Empowering Parents to Implement Function-Based Strategies within Family RoutinesMeme Hieneman, Positive Behavior Support Applications, Palm Harbor, FLThis workshop will guide participants through a process to develop function-based interventions to improve family routines. It will address proactive, teaching, management, and support strategies, as well as a discussion of ways to engage parents and overcome obstacles. Videotaped ex-amples and practical resources will be shared.

SWK 113 – Recharging Your Batteries: Tier Two StrategiesLaura Riffel, University of Kansas, Lawrence, KSThis workshop will focus on a new competing pathway chart that simplifies tier two strategies. This simplified tool makes it easy to explain the function of behavior to anyone with or without a behavioral background.

Conference RegistrationFull Conference Registration: The registration fee for the 17th International Conference on Positive Behavior Sup-port includes admission to all breakout sessions on Thurs-day and Friday, the conference reception/poster session and conference materials. The registration fee does not include meals. Your registration form must be received (not post-marked) on or before the dates specified below to receive the reduced rate.

APBS Student and APBS Family Registration: APBS Student Members and APBS Family Members are entitledto the same privileges as full conference registrants. Studentsare required to present valid identification at the time of registration if purchasing a Student membership on-site.

Cancellation Policy: A service charge of US $35 will be assessed for processing refunds. All cancellations must be requested in writing (email is acceptable) and received (not postmarked) in our office by 5:00 p.m. on January 17, 2020. APBS will verify receipt of payment prior to issuing a re-fund. All refunds of verified payments will be credited back to the original source of payment received. “No Shows” willbe invoiced the full registration fee. We regret that we cannotoffer refunds for “No Shows”; however, substitute attendees are welcome without penalty. All requests for refund should state the registrant’s name and the amount of payment.

Pre-Conference and Skill-Building Workshop RegistrationOn Wednesday, March 11, Pre-Conference Workshops will be held from 1:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. On Saturday, March 14, half-day skill-building workshops will run from 8:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. and the full-day skill-building workshop will run from 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.

Separate registration for Pre-Conference and Skill-BuildingWorkshops is required. Attendees may register for the Pre-Conference or Skill-Building Workshops only or can register for workshops in addition to any conference registration. All workshop registration includes admission to the workshop with a copy of the con ference program and access to the conference mobile app.

Please note: Each workshop requires a separate fee. Pre-registration is advised, as there will be no wait list for sold out workshops. In addition, workshop notes are not avail-able for purchase.
