washer on sidewalks and exterior
• Make sure visitors can read your house number

• Clean out cobwebs

Clear Out the Clutter
• Tighten loose doorknobs• Fix leaky faucets • Replace cracked floor or
counter tiles• Patch holes in walls• Fix doors that don't close
properly and kitchen drawers that jam
• Consider painting your walls neutral colors
• Replace burned-out light bulbs
Tackle that “Honey do” List
• Re-caulk tubs, showers and sinks
• Polish chrome faucets and mirrors
• Wash walls • Remove all toiletries• Invest in some new towels• If your toilet seat, shower
curtain or bathmat are gross, replace them
• Put away things like toilet cleaners, plungers, and hampers
• Keep all reading material out of sight
• Close the toilet!
Tackle the Bathrooms
• Remove everything from the counters
• Clean inside all the cupboards and drawers
• Clean inside the fridge (remove the magnets and photos)
• Clean the oven and the microwave
• Consider investing in some fresh flowers and a beautiful bowl with some fresh fruit in it.
• Pay attention to smells!!!!
Spruce up the Kitchen
• Make the bedrooms inviting• invest in neutral-coloured
bedding and some new fancy pillows
• Straighten the bookshelves• Remove personal photos,
knick-knacks and personal grooming products
• Remove furniture that doesn’t fit
• If you’ve converted two of your three bedrooms into offices, convert at least one of them back to a bedroom.

musty smelling areas• If you’re a dog owner,
wash any couches, beds and surfaces where the dogs sleep
• Tuck the litter box away (keep it clean while your home is on the market)

STEP # 7
THE 5 DAY HHT
Day 1• Your realtor should have arranged
showings for all your “A Listed” properties • Take notes, discuss with your realtor and
ask questions if you have any – don’t be afraid – this is an important decision you’re making
• Have a checklist – either one supplied by Brookfield or one supplied by your realtor – use this to help rank or eliminate properties
Day 2• Continue looking at homes in your
areas of interest• Take notes, discuss and ask
questions • Use your checklist to help rank or
eliminate properties• Short list the houses of interest – try
to limit it to three or fewer
Day 3• Re-visit the homes your short list• Make your selection• Have your realtor prepare and deliver the
OTP• Be available for negotiations• Ensure you have a Lawyer and a Home
Inspector selected• If negotiations are concluded make an
appointment for your Home Inspector and your lawyer
Day 4• Conduct Home Inspection • You and your realtor will need to set
aside 3-4 hours• If this cannot be accomplished ensure
that you have a Home Inspector that can send you a full and complete assessment, and that your realtor can be there in your place
• Meet with Lawyer if possible
Day 5• Finalize all details that can be
finalized• Ensure that your realtor sends the
