FROM THE RECTOR 16 November 2014

Dear Friends,

In this Sunday’s gospel, the cautious prudence of the man who buried his talent and gave it back unused was condemned. The gospel does not simply encourage us not to lose the grace we have received. It must be cultivated.

The good news is a message of love, and love must be shared, expressed and given away prodigally with flair, imagination, creativity and generosity. That is what makes it grow.

It is an investment that cannot be hidden away or treated cautiously. The more it is given away, the more it increases.

With every blessing,

Fr Steven Salmon, Rector

Christ the King Sunday: Sunday, 23 November, 10:00am is the Sunday before Advent, and the last Sunday in the Church’s liturgical year. The Feast of Christ the King was instituted in 1925, and reminds Christians of their allegiance to their spiritual rule as distinct from earthly powers. The St John's choir will sing at the 8.00am service and once again we welcome The Cathedral Singers to the 10:00am Holy Eucharist. It will also be Dn Sandra's 25th Anniversary of Ordination.

St John’s Pins’n’Needles Group will have their final meeting on Tuesday 25 November at 9:30am after a very successful year and will resume on Tuesday 10 February 2015 continuing on every second and fourth Tuesday of each month.

Children are always welcome in all our church services at St John's. In addition, at the 10:00am service there is Godly Play for children from three to twelve years, and our crèche (unsupervised) where parents can take little ones if upset or restless while still following the service on the large TV screen.
