WHAT IS GLOBAL WARMING?y Global warming refers to an average increase in the Earth's

temperature, which in turn causes changes in climate. When

scientists talk about the issue of climate change, their concern isabout global warming caused by human activities. , in particular

the burning of fossil fuels and the resulting buildup of greenhouse

gases in the atmosphere, have influenced this warming trend.

    y Rising in temperature.

y Greenhouse gases trap heat and light from the in the earths atmosphere

    EFFECTSEFFECTS

ySunlight (shortwave radiation) passes easily through the earth's

atmosphere. Once it strikes and warms the earth's surface,

infrared radiation is given off and goes back into the atmosphere.

While some of this Infrared radiation or heat escapes into space,

most of it is absorbed or held by carbon dioxide and other greengases like water vapor, carbon dioxide, methane, nitrous oxide,

and ozone that exist in small quantities in the atmosphere.

y These gases form a `blanket' that keeps the earth an average of

33 degrees centigrade warmer.yWithout these gases the whole planet would be an icy wasteland

with an average temperature of 16 degrees centigrade below

    freezing

Increase in carbon dioxide causeIncrease in carbon dioxide cause

earth to get warmerearth to get warmery CO2 contributes about 50% to the greenhouse effect

y Carbon dioxide is produced from burning wood, coal, gas, etc.

y The increase in carbon dioxide in the atmosphere is increasing the

heat being absorbed from the earth.y This trapped heat increases the

    evaporation of water from the

oceans into the air to cause a greater

increase in warming of the atmosphere.

y CO2 has a forcing effect on climate.

EFFECTS OF OTHER GASESEFFECTS OF OTHER GASES

y Methane is emitted during the production and transport of coal, natural gas, and oil. decomposition of organic wastes in municipal

solid waste landfills and the raising of livestock.

y Nitrous oxide is emitted during agricultural and industrial

activities, as well as during combustion of solid waste and fossil fuels.

y Very powerful greenhouse gases that are not naturally occurring

include hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs),per fluorocarbons (PFCs), and

sulfur hexafluoride (SF6), which are generated in a variety of

    industrial processes.

What can we do to stop global warming?y Use the washing machine or dishwasher only when

    they are full

y Take a shower instead of a bath

    y Use less hot water

y Be sure youre recycling at home

    y Reuse your shopping bag

y Plant a treey Buy locally grown and produced foods

y Buy fresh foods instead of frozen

y Seek out and support local farmers markets

y Buy organic foods as much as possibley Eat less meat

y Reduce the number of miles you drive by walking, biking, carpooling or taking mass transit wherever

    possible.

y Drive carefully and do not waste fuel

y When it is time for a new car, choose a more fuel

    efficient vehicley Try car sharing

    y Try telecommuting from home

    y Fly less

y Encourage your school or business to reduce emissionsy Join the virtual march

y Encourage the switch to renewable energy

y Protect and conserve forest worldwide

Personal solutions1. Don't leave the things turn on like TV,

    computer or the lights.

    2. People should walk to their works or school orriding buses or bicycles.

    3. Dont leave you car turn on a very long time.

y What difference can I make? When facedwith this question, individuals should recognizethat collectively they can make a difference

y Recycling newspapers, plastics, glass and metal

    will help a lot.

OUR OPINIONOUR OPINIONy There are many solutions that can be

undertaken, both by the government and bythe consumer to reduce the effects of global

warming.y In my opinion, if the government and

consumers followed theses step of solutions, they will reduce the effective of this issue which

    is global warming.
