Reports and Parent/TeacherInterviews
It’s time to celebrate and reflect onstudent learning in Semester One.
Reports will be issued to all studentsthis afternoon, Wednesday 16th June.Enclosed with your child’s report willbe an invitation to attend a parent/teacher interview. If you would like tospeak with your child’s teacher todiscuss their progress please indicatefour time preferences and respond byemail or return note by Thursday P.Mor Friday A.M. A prompt responsewill ensure that teachers can adviseyou of your interview time by Fridayafternoon. Your child’s teacher hasindicated on your invitation if he/shefeels it is particularly important tomeet with you to discuss your child’sprogress. However we warmlywelcome the opportunity to meetwith all parents.
We encourage all parents to readthrough the report with their child andto discuss the content with them.
Congratulations to all of the childrenwho have obviously worked hard tomeet their potential and who havedisplayed a strong commitment totheir own learning.
Field Carnival – Parent Helpers
Help needed!
Tomorrow is the North SydneyDemonstration School Annual FieldCarnival for all children aged 8 andabove. The carnival is to be held atChatswood Rotary Athletics Fieldstarting at 9.30am
If you are available to help on the dayyour assistance will be greatlyappreciated. Please email Tony [email protected] orspeak to your child’s teacherregarding any assistance that youcan offer e.g. walking students toevents, marshalling etc.
Lab on Legs
This week, Stage 3 participated in theCSIRO Lab on Legs program. Theprogram, conducted at school by theCSIRO, focused on how electricalcircuits operate and providedstudents with hands on opportunitiesto create their own electrical circuitsand gain an understanding of howelectricity is conducted. Studentsmade light bulbs glow, sirens soundand medium wave radios work.Through following careful proceduresthey were able to recreate open andclosed circuits. The program hasconsolidated the learning that hasoccurred in Stage Three’s ‘Energyand Movement’ conceptual unit.

CLOTHES FOR ‘TOILETTING ACCIDENTS’
To all Kindergarten Parents (and parents of other students likely to have
‘toiletting accidents’ at school)
Thank you to all those parents who are supplying their children with a spare
set of clothes – we have had to use many of these in the last few weeks. If
you have any ‘lent’ clothes at your home, please wash and return. We have no
spare clothes in which to change children should accidents happen.

STEWART HOUSE USED CLOTHING APPEAL
Stewart House bags were distributed to children today. Please return the bags to the Open Areain McHatton Building by Wednesday 28th July for collection on Thursday 29th July. StewartHouse is based at Freshwater Beach and gives children in need a chance for urgent medicalattention and/or a holiday and in some cases an opportunity to see the Pacific Ocean (whichmany have never seen before). Thank you
International Competitions and Assessments for Schools (ICAS)
If you are interested in your child/ren taking part in the last two ICAS tests, English (closing date6 July) and Maths (closing date 20 July) please email [email protected] andapplications forms will be forwarded to you. These two tests will be completed by all year 4 and6 students and the cost appears on the Term 2 Schedule of Payments.
SCHOOL CANTEEN DAY COMPETITION – enter now !!
All children are invited to join in this competition. All you have to do is write a list for yourhealthy menu with some “Specials" suggestions and colour-in the sheet which you can pick upfrom the Tuckshop. Return your completed sheet to the Tuckshop. Winners from each stage willbe chosen and they will receive a $5 Tuckshop gift voucher.
HEALTHY KIDS SCHOOL CANTEEN DAY - Friday June 18th
This day is set aside to acknowledge the vital “health promoting” role that canteens play withinthe school community and to thank the volunteers and staff who run them. Many thanks toCraig, Karen, Tracey and to all the volunteers who help make our Tuckshop successful.

Travel: All children must make their own way to the Theatre.
SEASONS FOR GROWTH REFERRALS
Seasons for Growth is a program offered to students in Years 1 to 6 who are experiencing difficulty indealing with a significant change or loss. This may include the death of a loved one, divorce, separationor relocation. The program aims to build students resilience and helps them to come to understand thatchange is a normal part of life.
The program is facilitated in small groups (approximately 5 students) and is based on research whichhighlights the importance of social support and the need to practise new skills to cope effectively withchange and loss. The program also focuses on issues such as self-esteem, managing feelings, problem-solving, decision-making, effective communication and support networks.
It is anticipated that Seasons for Growth will commence in Term 3 and will be facilitated by AmandaCoroneos and Chris Pytko who have received special training in the implementation of this program.
Parent permission is necessary and application notes are now available from your child’s class teacher.All application notes should be returned to the class teacher by Friday 18th June 2010.
We are pleased to be able to offer this important program and we are confident that it will be a valuablelearning experience for those who request to be involved. If you require further information pleasecontact your Amanda Coroneos by email.
