Adult English Classes at Gleneagles SC
From August, Gleneagles Secondary and Narre Community Learning Centre will be introducing English classes for parents
one morning a week. If you are interested, please contact Melanie Yoffa at Gleneagles on 9708 1319 or email at
Places are limited so please hurry! Interpreters are provided in class. For further details, see the flyer later in this newsletter.
We are pleased to be able to offer this opportunity for GSC parents from non-English speaking backgrounds at no cost. As
parent’s confidence in the language grows, so will their ability to be able to support their children’s education and be more
comfortably engaged in our school community. Certainly a great outcome all round.
Badminton Report
It has been almost a week since the 6th of June, where twenty-four excited year sevens and eights represented our school
in badminton at the Hallam Badminton Centre. There were many shuttlecocks flying in the air and the competition with
many of the other schools was very intense and tough. All students showed great sportsmanship and the environment was
filled with great energy and enthusiasm. A big congratulation to the Year 8 and 7 girls who were the winners of their sections,
they will be heading onto the next round. Overall, it was a very successful day, congratulations to all those that participated.

MIDDLE SCHOOL NEWS
Middle school students and staff have just gotten through the first half of what we are now fondly referring to as middle
school madness! Term 2 is extremely busy with overlapping special events occurring throughout YR9 and YR10.
Events and experiences this term include: YR9 CBD, YR10 Exams, YR10 Futures Program & YR10 Work Experience.
YR9 CBD … done!
What a great week on CBD we had! From the heights of the Eureka Sky Deck to the underworld of the Melbourne Aquarium,
we saw it all. Students were able to face many new challenges, develop independence and new friendships whilst seeing
some wonderful places in Melbourne throughout their week in the city. The College was impressed with the maturity and
pride shown by the year 9 students as they visited many respected and significant places in Melbourne’s history.
I would also like to thank all the staff who made this possible both at the city experience and also taking classes back at
school, parents/guardians for helping their children make their way to the train stations and students for representing the
College in such a respectful manner.
I hope you all enjoyed this experience and can use some of the skills and knowledge developed to plan your very own journey
with your loved ones and enjoy what our beautiful city has to offer!
Images from the Year 9 CBD Experience including students at the Shrine, Aquarium,
State Library, M.C.G., the Old Melbourne Gaol and Federation Square.
YR10 EXAMS … done!
Our YR10 students have just completed a week of exams for all core subjects and electives.
At GSC we have high expectation of students to be prepared and do their very best in each exam.
The YR10 team would like to congratulate all YR10 students for surviving the exam period. We are very
impressed with the effort, attendance and behaviour of the year level.
YR10 FUTURES PROGRAM … done!
The YR10 Futures Program marks the start of the Course Counselling process for our students.
Throughout the program students participated in a variety of sessions focusing on informing them of their future pathway
options for senior school and beyond.
Sessions included:
VCE / VET / VCAL and senior school structures, career exploration, Hallam SSC presentation, Career Action Plan and Pre
requisite studies
Students also participated in an excursion to one of the following Tertiary Institutions:
Victoria University, William Angliss Institute, Academy of Interactive Entertainment or Monash University.
As stated earlier in this article we are half way through Middle School Madness!
STILL TO COME …
YR10 Work Experience
MONDAY 26th June – FRIDAY 30th June
We are extremely proud of the YR10 cohort and their actions taken to organise appropriate Work experience placements.
All 2017 YR10 students have established a placement and completed the necessary Work Safe Certificates well ahead of
time … well done; setting a GSC record!
Course Counselling Course counselling is a lengthy and important process.
Important dates include: WEDNESDAY 19th July – YR10 to YR11 Parent and Student information night WEDNESDAY 26th July – YR9 to 10 Parent and Student information night
MONDAY 31s t July – YR10 to 11 Course Counselling interviews – no classes for year 10 WEDNESDAY 16th August – YR9 to 10 Course Counselling interviews – no classes for year 9
Students and parents are encouraged to ask questions and complete research throughout the process. You need to ensure
you are prepared and making well informed decisions about appropriate pathways.
YR9 and YR10 students are encouraged to think of the following when making their decision:
• What do I like?
• What am I good at?
• What pre-requisites are required for my pathway?
GSC Course Counselling staff will then use evidence of results and attendance to inform final selections.
