TA Prep’s Black History Program Wednesday, February 7, 2018
By Lemuel Bristol, Middle School Student
On February 14th, 2018, there was a very special program about
Black History. It was held in TAPrep’s gym. This program was very
special as it expressed the importance of colored people who stood
for what was right. Most of the classes in the school participated in
the program. They had speeches, solos, a choir performance, and
an interpretive dance by Madison Evans.
One thing in the program that stuck out to me was the vigorous
singing of the black national anthem. That song just makes me feel bubbly inside!
Another thing was the video that Mrs. Bethea’s son, Andrew made. The video showed
many different colored people who made a great impact on today’s society. Some of
these people include Michael Jordan, Barack Obama, Oprah Winfrey, Maya Angelou,
and don’t forget, Martin Luther King Jr.! These influential people are just the few of
many on that awesome video. The beautiful solo from Lysle Folette just touched my
heart.
The black history program this year was a great success, but I wish that we would focus
on black heritage not just during February (black history month), but throughout the
year so kids and adults could appreciate all the privileges that we have now because of
their sacrifices and dedication to what they believed in. Now we need the children to
believe that we, as children, can accomplish anything that we set our minds to by the
grace of God.
