Director’s Letter

Welcome to the 2012 SCTP National Team Championships being held at Sparta , IL July 15th-21st and the Olympic Training Center, Colorado Springs, CO July 27th-August 1st , 2012

Our Scholastic Shooting Sports Foundation Board of Trustees, and our National Staff join me in welcoming all the shooter athletes, coaches, family and friends who are attending this great event.

The growth of SCTP continues as we add teams in all the divisions and the future looks very promising. The heart of our program is the coaches and volunteers at the local team level who work hard to establish teams and give unselfishly of their time. We also acknowledge the families of our shooters who support their activities and give them encouragement.

We have some exciting news with the addition of the Scholastic Pistol Program to the Scholastic Shooting Sports Foundation. The SPP will give the SSSF new opportunities to reach out to more youth shooters and to grow the depth of our organization. SPP is on site at the Championship and we invite you to sign up as a team and shoot your first match while you are here! No entry fee for the match, just pay the $15 member fee, and go shoot…we have loaner guns and you can buy ammo at a discount.

We want to thank all our partners and sponsors for their generous support. The National Shooting Sports Foundation is our parent and industry partner and we thank them for their help and guidance. We are also pleased to be partners with USA Shooting in the development of potential Olympic Shooters and are proud that some of our Olympic Team members competing on London are former SCTP members.

We are fortunate to have sponsors like Midway USA/Larry and Brenda Potterfield whose generosity is instrumental in allowing us to grow youth shooting. There are many more great sponsors who are listed in this program and represented on site at the Championships. Please take time to visit them and say thanks!

The SCTP/SSSF National Staff, Directors of Development and our State Advisers work hard all year long to make our program better and to host a great Championship. We thank them for their efforts.

Lastly, our thanks to the World Shooting & Recreation Center, State of Illinois, and USA Shooting/Olympic Training Center for allowing us to utilize their facilities for our events.

Again, welcome and let’s have a great Championship and most importantly have FUN!

Dan Hathaway

2012 SCTP National Team Championships

Scholastic Pistol Program (SPP)

The Scholastic Shooting Sports Foundation has

launched a new shooting sport, the Scholastic

Pistol Program (SPP).

SPP provides the opportunity for young adults

to participate in the exciting and challenging

family sport of “speed shooting” in a supportive

environment taught by trained and supportive adult

coaches focusing on the safe handling and use of

handguns.

SPP is organized based on age, Junior Division (ages 12 – 16), Senior (17 – 20) and Collegiate (no age

limit).

The basic competitive unit of SPP is a four-person squad; each squad shoots four (4) stages. In SPP

competition, your time is your score. Total score for all stages will determine each competitor’s match

score. The combined scores of the four shooters become the squad’s match score.

Special MatchSPP is hosting a special match during the SCTP Nationals as a way to introduce this new sport.

This special match will be open from July 17-21 and the 4 stages may be shot at anytime during this

period so a squad does not have to shoot all 4 stages at one time. So a squad can shoot the various

stages at their discretion as long as they complete all 4 stages by the end of the day on the 21st.

What is Needed to Compete in a Typical Match

No Need to Bring Guns or Ammunition for this Special Event!SPP partners Glock and Smith & Wesson will be on hand with free loaner guns so everyone can join

in the fun. Also there will be specially priced Winchester 9mm ammunition for sale so teams do not

have to worry about traveling with guns or ammo we have it covered for you.

Match Fees & Registration $15 per shooter – which includes your 12-month SPP membership!

Being this is a special introductory match, pre-registration is not required, but is suggested. Squads

may register at the SCTP Nationals (based on space availability).

For more information concerning SPP, please contact SPP Director, Scott Moore at

[email protected] or 602.930.7778.

To pre-register (not required, but suggested) please contact: Tammy Mowry at

[email protected] or 724.822.7390.
